I’ve been a die-hard Nintendo fan since the original Switch launched, and after one week with the Switch 2 (picked it up for my Christmas gift to myself) I can confidently say this is the best hybrid console Nintendo has ever made. The performance jump is incredible. Games like Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom run at higher resolutions with rock-solid 60fps in both docked and handheld mode – no more compromises! The new Nvidia tech (with DLSS support in enhanced titles) makes everything look sharper and smoother. Mario Kart World is an absolute blast, and older Switch games feel refreshed with free or cheap upgrade patches. The magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers are a game-changer – they snap on securely, no more rail worries, and the larger sticks feel precise with zero drift so far. The new C button for quick GameChat voice/video chats is super handy for multiplayer sessions, and the built-in mic/camera support adds a fun social layer. Battery life is solid at 4-6 hours for demanding games (better than my old Switch), the screen is brighter and more vibrant, and backward compatibility is seamless – my entire digital library just worked. Yes, it’s pricier than the original ($450 base), and some new games hit $70-80, but the premium build and power make it feel worth it. Feels like a huge improvement in quality from the Nintendo Switch, the sturdiness of the console itself really makes it feel better to play. The games and quality of services are also great, but the console itself is actually very well made which is a welcome change. I’m honestly surprised by how much I’m enjoying the Switch 2, because it doesn’t feel like a small upgrade or “the same thing but newer.” It feels like its own system. The games run smoother, the screen looks way better, and handheld mode actually feels like a premium experience instead of a compromise. The whole thing just feels more solid and more modern, and I like that I can just pick it up and play without messing with settings or worrying about performance. It’s different from the first Switch in the best way. Still familiar and easy to use, but more powerful, faster, and just more fun to play on. It finally feels like Nintendo made the version of the Switch they always wanted to make, and I’m genuinely enjoying it. ... show more

Build quality is solid, it feels like a premium product in hand. Rather large for my taste but it is what it is. The screen is certainly darker than I'd prefer, coming from the OLED version that change is stark and noticeable. It doesn't impact me personally as I play it docked more than not, but I can see this being a dealbreaker for others. The game its included with is mired in controversy, not entirely unfounded. However, I'm having fun, and getting it for $50 I would argue it was certainly worth the price. My biggest issue us, with the setting taking place in a single location, there is certainly not a lot of environment diversity, and I think that hampers a lot of the fun coming from Legends Arceus which, while this is a graphical and gameplay improvement, the former was more visually engaging. ... show more
