The media could not be loaded. I thought this might be a nice gift for my wife and daughter but wasn’t sure what reaction I’d get. My wife loved sewing as a young woman and once had a sewing machine. She didn’t make her own clothes or anything like that, but she learned to sew and values that skill. Things like hemming skirts and pants, shortening draperies etc. were her main uses. Things like that it seems are becoming lost skills today. When my wife opened the box she was less than thrilled implying that the recently retired me might be suggesting that she think about making her own clothes. She did agree to reserve judgment until our 12-year old daughter weighed in. When our daughter saw this adorable smaller footprint machine, she was immediately intrigued. How happy it made me that she was interesting in learning how to use it! The only question she had was about the instructional DVD - like what do I with this :) ? What seemed like a flop when I asked my wife to open the box turned into an hours long mother/daughter bonding experience. I could hardly believe that something “old school” like a sewing machine would pique our daughter’s interest the way it did. Now it’s far cry from an antique Singer with a foot pump but you get my drift. Mother and daughter worked together to find the instructional videos online and said they were quite good. Our daughter was completely intrigued at the mechanics and electronics and programming options. They worked to get it ready for use threading the bobbin, using the self threading feature on the needle and experimenting with several stitch patterns on a piece of old cloth. They plan to go to the fabric store and get a few simple patterns and fabric to get started along with other fun things like decorative patches. It seems to be a great beginner machine with a lot of features at a very reasonable price point. The only issue they mentioned was that sometimes the fabric bunched up and that could very well be a learning issue or trying to go too fast. I’m thrilled they love this and can use it both together and independently. Our daughter had been interested in fashion design so she now has a real opportunity to see what it’s like to actually sew some of her own designs! It is so incredibly refreshing to see this level of interest in something that doesn’t require a phone in your hand. And it gives her the chance to create something real and useful, develop new skills and use her brain and hands in different ways. I’m thankful for this purchase and I am hopeful the interest continues. If you think your child could benefit in similar ways and has an inkling of an interest, I think it’s a small investment with huge potential returns. Highly recommended. ... show more

    • An overall good machine for beginners, light work
No, this is not as fancy or as elegant or as heavy-duty as a high-end sewing or quilting or emborodery machine, nor as sophisticated or capable as a computerized machine costing 10x as much; but it is a remarkably capable basic sewing machine with a number of clever features. It is fully able to do many of the basic sewing tasks from button hole and button sewing to double needle work to zig-zag and limited decorative stitching. Importantly, the servo motor is smooth and precise, hopefully promising longer service life and fewer mechanical issues. The clever needle threader is a bit tricky to master at first, but soon becomes a welcome feature. You will want to make sure you have a straight stitch selected when using it, or it won't work very easily. The machine includes a somewhat helpful LCD screen and voice; the default language is an accented English Female voice. These two features may especially be appreciated by older users. The included instructions are a bit thin for a beginner, but the included flash drive with some introductory videos are helpful. The English instructions read as though they are translated from a foreign language and can be a bit hard to understand in places. I would have included more helpful videos on the drive as there was plenty of file space available. There are a number of included accessories, many of which are handy, but others, like the cheap thin plastic shroud with no hole cut for the carrying handle or pouch for the instructions, are disappointing. It would be nice if the machine were designed a bit more elegantly with places to store the foot pedal and cords built-in, as some other more sophisticated machines offer, but for the price, this isn't bad. ... show more

    • Good size for travel
Never had a machine with bobbin under it. It was a little difficult getting to the bobbin and then getting the bobbin out of its case. The speed buttons are hard to press. The machine is easy to use and works great. Love the needle down and the speed control.

I've been learning to use this sewing machine and really it's pretty easy. The instructions get a little confusing but there's a ton of videos out there on how to use one and it seems they're all pretty much the same. It works well and its easy to untangle the string when i mess up! Id say it is perfect for a beginner ... show more

Excellent features; one of them is the automatic threader, which also serves as a locking feature. When the threader is in the down position, and I try to use it, the machine will warn me using the voice feature. It has a compartment to store the bobbins. The talking feature makes the machine smart. The machine works smoothly, and the light is bright white. The thread guide is almost completely covered. The machine is light and easy to carry but sturdy on the table; it will not vibrate or move out of place. It includes a cover for storage. ... show more
