  • Nice machine for a first-time user
I have never used an embroidery machine before, always doing it by hand. Now that I have arthritis, I needed to switch to something a bit easier. The PE535 is easy to use and I have not had any issues with it at all. I did watch various YouTube videos to learn how to thread it and do the basic commands. The touchscreen is simple, but does not always respond to touch, so you may have to tap it several times to get it to do what you want. Other than that, I have no complaints. Just make sure that you watch videos before hand and think about what you want it to do. I really didn't think much about the 4x4 hoop size when I bought the machine. Many patterns out there are for larger hoops, so you will be limited if you choose this machine. Look into what you want to do before making any type of purchase. If I were to buy a new machine, I would definitely look for one with a larger hoop size, but that is because the art I want to embroider is usually larger. If I was looking for small art only, I would have no issues getting this machine. ... show more

  • Fantastic machine!
This was my first embroidery machine and I’ve been using it for about 3 years now. I was scared of the learning curve at first, but these machines really are user friendly and super easy to pick up. Set-up is quick and simple. After 3 years the stitch quality on my machine is still great and I’m always so pleased with the results. I only wish I had one with a bigger hoop! These machines are pricey but worth it. The endless amount of options it opens up to your crafting abilities is amazing! ... show more

  • Amazing machine to start with!
As a beginner, this machine has been an excellent machine to start with! Although it only has a 4x4 hoop, I basically take multiple 4x4 designs and build one big design. I'm JUST learning how to embroider so with these being just my first 3 projects I don't think I did too bad, but I'm still very new and learning. They were just for family (: The 49ers lettering was an applique with heat vinyl. Never had an issue. I just got an embroidery software to help with making my own lettering so that's been very helpful as the machine fonts are pretty limited. I will say, if you are just thinking of embroidering and haven't gotten a machine, make sure you research. I researched for a month before I even bought my machine. It's still not perfect, but I'm glad I have the knowledge. Practice makes perfect! You need to learn about centering, stabilizers, needles (ball point has been great), tension, hooping, bobbins, etc. Happy Embroidering! ... show more

  • Great entry-level embroidery Machine
If you want to learn machine embroidery without spending a ton of money, this is your machine. It’s modestly priced and relatively small, for this type of machine. So if space is a limiting factor, this is also a good choice. Things to know; 1) This is a embroidery-only machine. It does not do regular sewing. 2) If you want to do regular sewing as well, you either need a separate sewing machine (which I already have) or a combo machine. Brother makes a number of these, and some are available on Amazon. 3) It has a number of designs and alphabets installed in its memory, but you are not limited to those. Things you will need; 1) Embroidery thread- you can buy packaged sets or individual spools. 2) Extra needles. It comes with a couple, but machine embroidery can wear out needles faster than regular sewing does. 3) Stabilizer- this is a sheet that goes behind your fabric to keep it from puckering under all those stitches. 4) USB stick- to bring designs from your computer over to the machine. 5) Software to digitize & edit images. This is not absolutely necessary, but expands what you can do. I didn’t have trouble following the directions for the machine at all. I did have a little difficulty learning to use the threader; it takes a bit of practice. I did some trial pieces to get the feel for placing and sizing designs and got some good results quickly. (See pics.). The only minor issues are that there is no onboard storage for little things like spool caps and that the included dust cover is flimsy. I sewed my own, as you can see. ... show more

  • Easy peasy@
I am so very pleased with my new Brother embroidery machine. Ideal for a complete beginner, that I readily admit that I am. It sat at my house for a week or so before I got the courage to try something new to me. Sorry I waited so long to try it. I sure missed out on alot of fun and enjoyment just because I was a little intimidated by an embroidery machine. But this machine could not be easier to use. It came with a great set of manuals in English and Spanish. It has a great design guide booklet also. It is super easy to thread. It makes perfect stitcheshe's everytime. In the short time I have had mine, I have already tried all the designs in the guidebook, as well as the MO ogram alabets in English. I would have loved to see a few dozen more designs at this price point. ... show more

  • Love this machine
I'm a beginner to embroidery, and wanted a not too pricey machine to start. I put this in my save for later list and bought it when the price dropped to slightly over $300. Also bought additional machine designs, thread, filled bobbins, various types of stabilizer and additional needles. Make sure your know the thread specs for the machine so that you buy the right weights of thread. I've only embroidered 4 items and have gone through two bobbins already. I can't stress how much you need to read the manual AND watch the YouTube videos. I already have a Brother sewing machine, so threading this was not a problem. Make sure your lever is up so that the machine adjusts the thread tension. This is a great beginner machine, I'm already regretting I did not splurge and get a bigger hoop size. On my wish list is also a machine that cuts jump threads. Embroidery is not a cheap hobby. Plan your purchases. Make sure the designs you buy will fit the machine. I'll update this if I run into problems and after I start projects - like embroidering on suede. ... show more

  • Couldn’t love this machine any more!
I am all new to embroidery. The one time I tried to use a sewing machine was a disaster (and I mean disaster!!). This machine sat in the box for a week or so because I was scared to ruin it. Finally got it out and I’m so glad I did because yes, it’s overwhelming, but my recommendation is read the manual and then just try it! I was scared of my first time using it but when I did…beautiful! Super user friends, directions of how to load thread and everything is right on the machine and spelt out for you to, and it makes gorgeous embroidery! This has all the main essentials aside from stabilizer and thread! ... show more
