  • Fantastic for gear heads who can tune a saw - Otherwise stay away.
Size: 36inch
I've been cutting wood for 30 years so I am comfy with a chainsaw. Always had Stihls and used a variety of other saws from friends. This thing is a beast - it did NOT run out of the box. Wouldn't even start - it needed tuned right away. Caps are absolutely terrible - but if I have had luck getting them to seal pretty good. Bar and chain are "ok"... My first upgrades are going to be a good bar and chain and new oil/gas caps BUT for a 36" saw this thing is an absolute beast for the price. IT RUNS GREAT once you tune it correctly. Good to have a cheap tach. Came back to add that the quality of the saw parts is NOT that of OEM 660. It is a cheap knock off - but it has it where it counts. The chain tensioner is absolute garbage - but I can deal with that. ... show more

  • Likely a Great Value (lots of info within)
Read this first: Read the reviews very carefully. As of the time I'm writing my initial review there are 21 reviews and none of them are for the Farmmac F660V chainsaw. They are for chains and/or bars. This is something I've seen many import companies do. I think it's misleading at best. Now on to the review... I bought this saw because I have some trees that are 30-36” or more in diameter. My 18” MS261 isn’t the best fit for those. I wasn’t interested in paying for the Stihl brand for the amount of use I have planned. Possible that I’ll use it more than I expect ;) I’ll be sure to share updates. Preliminary (pre-use) impressions: I can’t wait to put this thing to use!!! Value: 5 stars (assuming no big issues). Since this is a MS660 assembled from aftermarket parts the value is high since it appears that it will work fine. See first start notes below Fit & Finish: 2-3 stars. If I received a Stihl brand saw like this, I would return it. But if spending over $1.5k on a saw you really should expect perfection. The rating is in comparison since most people looking at this saw are wondering how it compares. Mostly lots of little things. As others have said, go into the purchase with realistic expectations and you likely will not be disappointed. You can see things that contributed to this ratting below. Combined ratting: 4 stars. To get the 5 stars there needs to be a big jump in the details. After all 5 is perfect or very near. Was shipped double boxed and well packed! Also, the bar/chain came in a separate delivery as an FYI. The bolt head and nut to hold the spikes in place are sized wrong. You can see the two pics where I measure the nut and the opening in the back side of the sprocket cover. The bolt head and nut would just spin in the opening because they are sized too small. You can also see the size of nut and machine screw I replaced it with and finally the one with the correctly sized nut in place. It’s the type of thing that would upset me if buying a Stihl but is mostly an irritation for something in this price range competing with something 3-4 times the cost. Corners are going to get cut somewhere. The spark plug (NKG brand) was installed by someone that was having a bad day or has a poor sense of humor (likely using a battery powered tool). To remove it I had to use a soft blow hammer pictured (only to show the hammer and didn’t have a third hand to show that I applied pressure while tapping). The threads look ok and reinstalled without issue. Again, mostly an irritation since it wasn't damaged. Another pic you can see some metal shavings from a tapped bolt hole. Again, not a big deal on the outside and something you wouldn’t expect to see on a new Stihl. One of the muffler bolts was cross threaded. Fuel caps not locked into place inside tank. Based on the preliminary impressions I would make the purchase again. One concern I seen before pulling the rope a single time is some scratches on the cylinder wall seen from the exhaust port. I’ll check this again after a few tanks to see how things look. I’m expecting things will look fine. I did blow out the cylinder into a white paper towel and nothing came out it. So the scratch is either from the test run at factory or assembly. All the bolts that I removed had thread locker already on them. The fuel mix container that comes with the saw is a nice thought but probably will be a source of more frustration than smiles. First startup, full choke got sputter on pull 6. I then bumped it up one notch and it started on the next pull. 7 total pulls for first startup! A couple most warm starts both on first pull. Bar oiler seems to be working fine from the short time I ran it at low speed. Did not notice any leaks from the tanks after 24 hours :) Just the oil that came off the bar/chain. ... show more

  • Amazing saw for the money. Appears that it will go the distance.
Size: 36inch
Basically amazing. I have been using an MS291 and a CS-590 for several years. For the money, this machine is 3x as good for approx the same price. The build quality is decent, except for maybe the oil/fuel filler caps. 8/10. Right out of the box, it started on the third pull. I ran it for the first gallon or so of fuel with extra oil in the fuel. Starts every time on the second pull. My MS291 always takes 7 pulls. The CS-590 doesn't start. This thing cuts at least twice as fast as any of the others. I will probably need to adjust the carb, but no big deal. This is a heavy saw. Possible weak spots are the chain tension ... it feels like the machining is not super accurate. Also the metal on the bar nuts is not up to the OEM quality. Who cares? I don't make my living with this. I use it for a couple of hours a month to fell or buck or rip material too large for my other "rancher" type saws. We will see about the longevity. I suspect it will last. Being able to use/re-use 066 parts is a huge benefit. Also, the chain and bar were surprisingly good out of the box. Especially the chain. Near OEM quality. The bar might be slightly softer and wear slightly more than OEM...not sure. Lastly, the oiler migh be a little tough to adjust...but it seems to work and nothing is burning up or wearing out fast. All in all, this is a vastly better deal for my uses than a comparable stihl. Very impressive. ... show more

  • Ran okay until it didn't
Size: 36inch
Returning this saw. Instructions were marginal, but with the help of youtube I managed. Followed break in procedure (running 35:1 fuel:oil mix) on 4th tank of gas (still running 35:1) it died in the middle of a cut. Would NOT restart. Fresh ethanol free gas with Stihl oil. Ran okay then just quit. I can roll the engine over (not siezed) Compression good. Spark okay, fresh gas/oil, replaced "Torch" branded spark plug with NGK, cleaned air filter, tried starting without air filter, tried using petroleum ether starting fluid, tried with/without compression release engaged. NO "pop" at all... nada, nothing, nix. ... show more

  • 660 clone is a beast I will never buy a sthil 660 again
Size: 36inch
Probably the best clone ive ever used it does pull the 36” bar just fine it’s tuned to run out the box but runs kind of midly with a little adjustment pulls the 36” no problem I’ve put 5 tanks of gas through it in big trees no issues yet and turn the oiler all the way up run it 6 hours straight yesterday great saw will definitely buy another one down the road it doesn’t bog down unless the dogs pull you all the way in it doesn’t stop just slows down but for the price no complaints i recommend using the big pull handle ... show more

  • For not knowing the brand I took a chance and am happy
Size: 42 inch
Happy with the product and seller was helpful. So far went through 3 tanks of gas and the only negative thing I can say about this saw is when it runs completely out of gas, it takes a bit to fire back up, (getting gas through the lines again). Other then that I knock on wood haven't had any issues, didn't need to tune it up, open assemble and fires up. ... show more

  • What a beast of a saw !!!
Size: 36inch
Saw needs to be adjusted slightly out of the box but once it was tuned and started , it rips! I have the 42 inch bar and this thing cuts through Oak and Hickory logs that are over 24 inches wide no problem . Turn the oiler up and make sure that you use winter oil so you dont burn out the bar but so far so good . Read the break in directions and follow accordingly! This saw is definitely a badass saw especially for the price point ... show more

  • Excellent purchase! (Bad chainsaw scabbard)
Size: 36inch
So fare so good, cut about 10 slabs of maple now using my chainsaw mill. (I bought a ripping chain so I don’t know about the chain that came with it). I will say this chainsaw runs through a tank of gas very very fast, but it works beautifully and starts so easily! These only thing I hate is the chainsaw scabbard they send with a 36 inch chainsaw is only 12 inches long!! I don’t know why they do that! I have bought some leather and I will make my own 36” leather bar scabbard to protect the entire chain and bar and not just the tip. ... show more
