  • 4 stars but...
I have received a few different bars from different companies in this price point and the same issues span all of them. The hardware they include is woefully inadequate if you are not able to secure into studs. So you will need to buy better hardware. But more annoying is the cover plate on all of these bars in this price range are worthless. Higher end bars, the cover plate that covers the screws either snaps in or screws in place. These just push over the top of the plate. Not one set, including these, have actually been able to secure into place. They just slide away from the wall and leaves the screws exposed. But you wont realize this until you have massive holes in your walls and have to use these bars regardless. I ended up positioning one of the screws on the bottom and ended drilling a hole through the cover plate just to secure it in place. Not a terrible fix but still not good. So I suggest anyone buying a bar, look for ones that the plates actually secure in place. Though you will probably need better hardware for those as well. 4 stars because they are sturdy and effective in the right application. ... show more

  • Peace of mind
A lot of days I am not steady on my feet especially on stairs. The handrail going down to my basement is a gorgeous oak plank, not something an older person can hold onto safely. I certainly can't. It steadies me some but if I were to fall I wouldn't be able to grip it enough to stop myself. The top half of the other side has newel posts I can hold on to. It's when I get halfway down that I needed something else to grab. Same going up. I need to get halfway up before I can grab the newel posts in addition to holding the large decorative handrail. I really didn't want to have something put on the wall to distract from the oak paneling but decided my safety was more important. I live alone and my laundry room is downstairs. Perhaps you or your parents need help on their basement stairs. I think my son was surprised and relieved when I asked him to put these bars up for me. It didn't take him very long after he found the studs. He said he used his own screws to make sure they were secure and wouldn't pull out. He liked that the ones I selected had the anti slip grip. I did get an angled grab bar too just in case. I'll see if I need that installed too. I'm just glad there is safety equipment available. The price is reasonable and worth it to keep from falling. If you have elderly parents or a disabled relative you should consider getting this. They will be grateful. ... show more

  • Well made, stainless steel, and very solid
These handles are fairly thin-gauge stainless steel, but they are heavy-duty enough to be very solid once mounted. There are two pieces that must be attached to each end of the two handles, so you will assemble four "rings" for each handle, but this is so easy to do that the instructions are completely unnecessary. The steel is very high-quality, nicely burnished, and with excellent grip-texturing. Wet hands are not going to slip on this texturing. Of course, the ultimately solidity is provided by screwing each handle to the shower wall with six screws. Here your mileage may vary! You really want to find studs, and use longer screws than the pretty cheap mounting hardware provided in this package. I would consider the provider mounting hardware to be inadequate for basically any application. But the holes in the bases will accept even quite large-diameter screws, so I highly recommend that you find studs and use decking screws to penetrate well into the studs. But, as I say, your mileage may vary, and you'll just have to make it up for your particular application. It's highly doubtful that the provided mounting screws are going to get the job done, so count on that. Once these handles are mounted, though, they look very nice! And they are solid! ... show more

  • Heavy duty
We are currently remodeling our home and decided that grab bars are a needed item. My wife hurt her back at work and now has balance issues. Sometimes she just needs the bar to keep steady for a minute. These bars hold up to 500lbs and are more than adequate for our needs. Since I am remodeling the bathroom it was easy to plan for grab bars. I made sure that the wall area was beefy enough that the grab bars would be anchored in studs. These are going no where. These are a stylish appearing grab bar that matches the aesthetic of the bathroom. They are offered at a great price you get two so they can be placed in multiple area's. Durable and beautiful. ... show more

  • Great for my Elderly parents' bathroom
My wife ordered these so here are her comments: Both of my elderly parents recently fell so we absolutely had to make some immediate improvements to their home. We got these and my handy husband installed them - one beside the toilet and one in the shower. They are very strong and stable!!

  • Solid and secure, but
I am very pleased with these grab bars. Overall quality is very good and the knurling is a real added security feature. In my title; "but..." would refer to any grab bar installation and not just these. The included hardware has screws and drywall inserts for mounting. I did not use these and personally never would. If I had no choice other than going into drywall I would use an expanding anchor, ie, mollybolt, or a screw-in drywall anchor. Again, my personal opinion. I would recommend one end of the bar into wood minimum. The installation in the photos was done with all six screws going into wood - the corner stud. I ended up using some 2 inch pan-head screws I had on hand. The trim cover has enough space for the screw heads to fit flush to the wall despite not being flat-head like the ones included. The manufacturer cleverly made the size of these bars so that the extreme center mounting hole dimension from one end to the other is 16 inches - the same dimension as the standard stud centers. That will let you get at least one screw into wood at each end if you can span a standard bay. The bar measures, from center to center, 14 1/2 inches. ... show more
