  • Excellent attic ladder...
Size: 25x54 Inch
This ladder is a real step up in quality from the previous ladder that was used to access my attic. The Fakro has a far superior hinge system, and is very well built. This ladder is very sturdy and sold last a long time.

  • A good ladder but needs improvement.
Size: 25x47 Inch
I'm raising my rating to 3 1/2 stars as I feel my original 2 star rating was overly harsh. The first problem is the frame itself. It's not only made of pine, a very soft wood that cracks easily, but the board around the insulating cover is only 1/4 inch thick and it was held together with the smallest staples I've ever seen. It was supposed to be glued however it wasn't in this part of the frame. I had to remove the tiny staples, re-glue, and clamp the frame to get it to stay together. Also the staples they used to hold the packing cardboard around the frame, which were much bigger than the frame staples, cracked the pine along the side forcing me to glue and repair this also. The next problem is the ladder. This is supposed to be for an extra wide 25 inch opening but I suspect the ladder they used is identical to the 22 1/2 inch model. The ladder itself is only 13 3/8 inches wide so while you're getting a wider frame it's still a too narrow ladder. I also feel the ladder is at too steep of an angle, about 65 degrees. I keep bumping my knees on the steps when going up or down. I realize this is supposed to be a ladder, not stairs, but a little less steep angle would be easier and safer to use. On the plus side the metal supports and springs that lower and raise the ladder seem of good quality and all the screws are held in the wood with T-nuts. Also the insulating board fits snugly for a good seal however I'm not sure why the board is not flush with the bottom of the frame (it is about 1/8 inch lower). The opening system itself is a little different than I'm used to. The door isn't held up by the springs but a latch that must be turned by the included handle to allow the door to drop down where it can be easily reached and then pulled down and unfolded. I've decided I like the system as it means there is no unsightly cord handing from the ceiling however don't lose the handle as you'll have trouble finding something around the house to replace it. Overall I might recommend this to a friend with conditions however I think it could be improved by using a stronger wood and making the ladder wider. ... show more

Size: 30x54 Inch
Great product. It was $100 less than a similar product from a different maker at Lowe's. Plus, the one at Lowe's is special order and would have taken over a week to get in (plus dealing with attitude from someone who acts like you're bothering them by asking for help). This was shipped in 2 days. I was a bit disappointed in the way it was packaged. The outer box was in such bad shape the FedEx driver figured I was going to refuse it and send it back. It did receive a split in the frame on one end, but I am a woodworker and was able to repair it easily and quickly to my satisfaction. If you plan on installing this yourself I would suggest looking up the company's YouTube video on installation. It was much more helpful than the "instruction" pamphlet that comes with it. The video also says it can be done as a "one man" install. That is true for the most part, although an extra set of hands is very helpful. I had a friend of mine come and help. We are both proficient DIYers and found the process very straight forward. We both appreciated the fact that unlike many other attic ladders, this was can be installed without having to be up in the attic. It can all be done from bellow the ceiling, a great benefit when our temps have been in the mid to upper 90's the last few weeks. Once installed I was very impressed with the operation of it. It is smooth and feels very solid and sturdy when fully opened. As a furniture builder I also appreciated that the treads are dovetailed into the side rails rather than straight lots and rods or screws. The overall construction of this unit is outstanding and I would recommend this to anyone. ... show more

  • Excellent fit and appearance when door is closed. This minimizes air leaks and looks great too.
Size: 22x54 Inch
I bought this to replace a unit that had a metal ladder where one of the links broke. These ladder sets have standard sizes and if fit the opening I had perfectly. It was not too difficult to install, I needed my son to help me push it into the attic. Then I screwed two boards into the ceiling over the opening to support the unit while I centered it and screwed the sides into the framing. The instructions were very clear. You'll probably have to replace the trim. I think it would be difficult to remove the old one without removing the old trim first. I'm really happy with the fit and look. The door is affixed to the ladder with clips (very secure) and can be removed for painting and ease of installation. I really like that the door is offset from the steps so your foot can fit more securely on the step near the top of the ladder (your toe is not right against the door but you have a few inches of clearance so your foot overhangs the step a bit). I also like the clip that holds the door closed and provides a clean look. My old stair door never closed completely and there was always a little gap on one side. There is a rod you insert into a hole to latch and unlatch the door as well as pull it down (there is no cord hanging down). The door is also an inch or so thick so it has some insulating properties. ... show more

  • Great ladder
Size: 22x47 Inch
Love this product! A zillion times better than a hatch & a ladder that you have to lug into place every time you wanted to go up! My only suggestion would be I wish the red helper handle could be attached to which ever side you prefer...

  • Good enough for inside the house even
Size: 25x47 Inch
This made my client very happy. Cost a little more than what you get from one of the box stores but worth it! I fit it crossways in the attic (no choice) so I attached runners on top of the box to hold it in place while a completed the mounting process and it did great? Nice, sturdy and the client loves it. The door has A locking mechanism that comes with and extended key if you will? So no string hanging down no hole to look at very suitable for in house use not just a garage piece ... show more
