This is the first stainless steel hose I have owned. I now understand the importance and utility of a stainless steel hose, particularly in the short lengths, 3' or 5'. I highly recommend one of these for use as the connecting hose between your outdoors faucet and your garden hose housing. That short connecting hose is exposed to the elements 12 months a year including winters where it incurs alternating freezes and thaws. That is very hard on a hose and quickly deteriorates conventional rubber-vinyl-plastic hoses. It is well worth the price for the far superior durability and performance of stainless steel. I don't know if stainless steel is needed for the longer 50' garden hoses themselves, UNLESS you leave them in the elements all year and don't even drain them before winter.
