  • Decent, cheap smart cams, but the apps leave much to be desired
We have five Eufy cameras (four C120s and one S220). The devices themselves are pretty adequate. They record in 2K definition. They ostensibly can trigger various automations based on whether a human or pet is identified in the field of vision. They have a micro-SD slot for local video storage, which seems pretty rare to find. The local storage also allows for 24/7 continuous recording, if you need, which is something you can't get with cloud-only storage options. Cloud storage options also tend to only let you keep your clips for a week or 10 days or something like that... local storage means you can keep the videos a lot longer. And these are the cheapest Apple HomeKit-compatible cameras out there, especially since I got these on Prime Day special. When an event gets triggered, it saves a recording that starts about 3 seconds before the triggering motion, and it stops recording about 25 seconds after all motion in frame has stopped, up to a max clip length of about 2 minutes. So, if say a quick shadow passes into the frame, you're going to get at least a 30-second clip. If the motion lasts more than 2 minutes, you'll end up with multiple clips broken up into 2-minute segments. That's all fine and dandy in order to preserve context of the event and to keep the clips from getting too large. My beef starts when we get to the firmware and/or software. Luckily, those are things that could theoretically be remedied relatively easily. Still, they're dramatically impacting our experience with the product. * Connecting it Apple HomeKit nixes half the features of the cameras. They can't use their own automations or intelligence when connected to HomeKit. More saliently, the resolution drops from 2K to 1080p. That's still a good res, but it's a bummer that we can't get the full amount. These are all limitations of HomeKit, so they're not necessarily Eufy's fault. Still a bummer. * You're really only going to get that 2k quality if you download the videos, though. The quality when watching on a phone through the app is definitely not 2k. It looks a little better on the Mac app, but I'm still not sure it's actually 2k. Downloaded videos look pretty good, though. * The AI human/pet detection is way off. When the cameras catch my fiancée or me, it generally identifies us as pets. When it catches our cats, it calls them humans. Most of the time, however, it doesn't recognize any of us as either. Event recording and alert notifications are based off catching motion and identifying what's moving. Because the AI can't reliably make that determination, we have to have events and alerts enabled for all motion, which is a real pain in the backside when sifting through the recordings. * Since we have it set to detect and alert on all motion, it really catches -ALL- motion. We left a bird video on the TV for our cats while we out, and the birds moving on the TV triggered it. A shadow from a tree outside or someone walking by an open door in the apartment triggers it. Turning the lights on or off in another room triggers it. Our cats turning their heads whilst sleeping triggers it. I know this can be mitigated somewhat with changing the sensitivity levels, but that hasn't worked for us. We have it set to 3 (out of 5). When we reduced it to 2, it wouldn't pick up hardly anything. Our cat sitter came into the apartment, walked around, cleaned the litter boxes, played with the cats... and almost nothing triggered the cameras. * Watching live stream or clips remotely is buggy. We kept getting decryption errors, camera offline errors, or other problems that made it difficult to check up on our cats while we were away. Troubleshooting guides suggested that it was due to poor network quality, but I know that wasn't the case for us. * My absolute biggest problem with this camera system is downloading clips. First off, there's no "download all" option. And you can't move the SD card from the camera to your computer to copy the clips. Everything is encrypted on the SD card, and the only way to decrypt it is through the Eufy Security app. That's fine, I guess... I appreciate the attempt at security. But it's extremely frustrating when the app isn't stable (more on that later). ** It took me forever to work out how to even download a clip. Sure, there's a button on the playback screen. When you press it, it decrypts the video and saves it... somewhere. The confirmation says something like "your phone folder"... whether I was using the iPhone app or the Mac app (not sure about Android app, and I don't think there's a Windows app). Eventually, I worked out that it saves to my phone's photo library, just as if I'd recorded a video with my phone's camera. The Mac was even harder to find, though I guess it was intuitive -- it also saves to the Mac's photo library, rather than a download folder anywhere. Oh, and also... saving recordings on the Mac app is apparently not supported, according to their support team, which has made the rest of my problems even more annoying. ** Decrypting clips to download takes a long time. Sometimes it will hang or pretend to complete downloading, and the resulting downloaded file is corrupt and unviewable. Sometimes decrypting/downloading the video just causes the app (either iPhone or Mac) to straight up crash. I worked out that I can usually download about 5-10 videos before I start having problems. One it starts glitching, I have to restart the application, and then I'll get another 5-10 videos before it glitches again. Essentially, I have to download each clip and then open it up on my computer to make sure it downloaded successfully and isn't corrupted. This probably wouldn't be a problem in normal uses where you're likely to only download a couple of important videos here or there, but my case isn't typical right now. One of our cats died while we were out of town, and we're downloading all the videos over the course of that week to find out what happened. Given the fact that we have five cameras recording virtually all motion, that's hundreds of videos every day for over a week that I have to download. Not being able to download en masse and having to contend with the apps constantly crashing is making a very heart-wrenching process even more difficult. Overall, I'd say these are definitely worth what we paid for them. The software and firmware leave a lot to be desired, in my opinion, but those could conceivably be fixed with some updates from the vendor. ... show more

  • Perfect for nursery
I love that I literally put this camera where I need it and get high definition video and sound. At night I just keep my screen on face down and my phone charging all night. I sold my old baby monitor because this tromps my setup in the nursery.

  • Fix it and I'll give you the last star.
Does anyone have issues receiving vibrating notifications on an Android smartwatch? Or do you know the fix? I've tried placing it on the never sleeping apps list and it still won't trigger a buzz. It's the only app that won't work with the vibration and Eufy customer service 1000% does not care. I only got it to work for a day or two. It'll send notifications to my watch...with no sound or vibration, which is a huge no no when it's on silent!!! How else would I know to look?! I tried Googling answers and there are others just as irked as I am! One of the cameras arrived defective--it took several re-formats to get it to work. Then about a week later, it decided to give off "SD card not detected" error messages. It also refused to stay at the angle I wanted it to be at. I had to request replacements from Amazon. These cameras are an upgrade from the ones I had before, in terms of fancy features like the alarm and human/pet/other motion detection...2k instead of 1080... FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING, PLEASE FIX THE SMARTWATCH NOTIFICATION ISSUE!!! ... show more

  • Video quality is surprisingly good.
I put these in my window on the inside of the house and they work pretty good at detecting people. Video quality is pretty good during the daytime. But at night there are some reflections coming of window. I know that's not how to use it. But it works. I like the fact that you can record 24/7 and the app works good to be able to get notifications of motion. If you have it set on continuous recording and you open up playback setting, there are little yellow bars that show when motion was detected. Lots features in the settings. ... show more

  • RTSP not working with NAS - Update
Camera with app is fine. however, RTSP fails to connect or when it does, it immediately disconnects and maybe a couple seconds of video. 99% of the time it shows disconnected. If you want Eufy cloud, maybe ok. if you want privacy and store locally... not easy or working. Update - 3 months later. Eufy customer service contacted. Wanted all sorts of personal information. I didn't supply anything. But, all of a sudden RTSP started working with NAS and these cameras. Although, Continuous Recording must be set, not just Event. After it started working without any changes, I turned this off as to not send and write data constantly. Connection Error came back. Turned Continuous back on and green connections and feeds again. ... show more

  • Solid.
HUMAN REVIEW: These were easy to install (I have three desk or shelf mounted and three bracket-mounted). Naturally, you are obliged to install them reasonably close to outlets and wi-fi. We've had very little problem using them with Apple HomeKit: set them up in Eufy's app and then they import neatly to HomeKit. (We use HomePod mini for our hub.) You need sufficient iCloud storage to record, but it's been worth it to us. We have 24/7 coverage of entrances and exits, and this has helped us figure out where the kitten was hiding my AirPod case more than once. There's some glitchiness in HomeKit getting the cameras to change behaviors based on leaving home or coming back, but that's a HomeKit problem. KITTEN'S REVIEW: Curses. I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you darned kids and your Eufy cameras. I will have my revenge. I will have. my. revenge. ... show more
