  • Great strings but use caution
I went to buy a replacement set as I had been using EB Cobalts for a while now. I noticed a "used" set posted in original packaging and in good condition, so I thought I could save a few bucks and break-in time. Unfortunately, the "E" was already unraveling and the original buyer returned them and Amazon resold them. Once the outer ribbon starts unraveling they're no good. The original buyer had cut the string, probably before bending it, and it unraveled. Good for the buyer, bad for me. I requested a return and ordered a "new" set. That set came the next day and worked great! Lessons learned, 1) don't buy used strings, 2) bend before cutting or wind the whole string(looks unsightly I know) and 3) buy Amazon as they back their products and mistakes. ... show more

  • Great tone but delicate
I gave these strings 2 stars in my first review because the low E snapped above the ball after running it through the body and stretching it. But I have to confess, no other round sounds as good as these. They have no raspiness and provide the most "middy" tone of any round string I've ever tried, and I have tried many. For hex cores they aren't too stiff, and feel very smooth under the fingers. Just treat them gently and be careful when stretching. The E broke during installation and the A went dead after a few weeks. ... show more

  • The best Ernie Ball bass strings I've used.
I've been using Ernie Ball strings for around 8 years and in my opinion these are the best bass strings you can get from Ernie ball. I'm in a rock band called Deadnote (we sound kinda like The Black Crows and Jet, check us out anywhere online) and I've always liked using Super Slinkys, they provide some punch to my sound and offer more tenor timbre that allows articulate playing to stand out better. Compared to other Ernie Ball Super Slinky bass strings, like the regular pack and the coated strings, these provide even more flexibility, texture, tone, and tons of harmonic capabilities. Using these strings I can play harmonics basically anywhere on the bass! I play with a Fender Jazz bass and these strings really bring out the characteristics of the single coil pickups, though keep in mind that they also bring out a little more buzz because of the single coils. I play with finger, pick, and slap technique and these strings work great for all of them. I highly recommend these strings to anybody who needs dynamic strings for many different sounds and with a more treble sound. If you need a more meaty "Motown" sound or something for heavy metal these strings might be too light for you, but Ernie Ball other strings packs like their Hybrid, Regular, and Power Slinkys and one of these would probably work great! ... show more

  • Favorite bass strings
My favorite bass strings, very bright and ringing. E.g. when new the bass is loud enough to practice without amp at least when slapping. The only downside they don't last very long and became dull sounding pretty fast.

Might want to change the price of the strings. I got these strings about a month ago and had them shipped to my house instead of the university I attend, about three miles away, that way it would be a bit quicker not going through university mail. My mother texted me saying they they had arrived and so I went home to pick them up and go back to campus to slap them on my bass. However, on the way back to campus I rear ended a lady and totaled my car. It seems the strings were actually worth $35 and an old Nissan Maxima. RIP White lightning. The Strings though are great, rough enough to strengthen callouses and makes really good tones on the low end, even in drop C. It would be awesome if they were black, but I'm not bad. 10/10, do recommend. And drive safe kids! ... show more

  • Great sound, maybe not for everybody (
Put these on my bass & gave it a new groove; sounds fuller, richer, grabs the bass notes I was looking for; my previous strings were flat & dull sounding compared to these. Also love the way these feel to my fingers ( I use my fingers more than a pick)

  • right on point
My P-Bass plus has a very fat mellow tone. Sometimes getting good intonation on the top string is difficult, even when in E standard, not anymore. The guage and coating of these strings is very bright, they will be my go to from now on. If you need a little more ring or a little more attack, they are definitely worth a try. I used to only buy thick guage strings, sometimes all the way up to 115 on the top string, but these feel really good! And they don't rob you of low end, definitely getting the best of both worlds here. ... show more

  • A SONIC REVELATION
I've read a few of the negative reviews for this product and saw them to be completely unfounded. Instead, I was unprepared for the sonorous attributes that overwhelmed my senses. This product will make you do a double take on your instrument. After installing them on my Music Man Stingray I was taken aback on the "days" the notes rang for. I once came across a Stingray with a roasted neck and immediately regarded it's tone as the holy grail in bass. I never thought I it possible to replicate that tone on any other Stingray until I strung these Cobalts on mine. The result was so astonishing that it reverted me back to that moment in my childhood upon discovering my first beloved toy. You've been warned. ... show more
