  • Don't think cobalt is worth the extra money
Color: Super (45-100)
I've always played nickel Ernie Ball Super Slinkys on all my basses for 15 years now, and wanted to try these out. They are great strings but I feel like they didn't really deliver much on the tonal promises for the price. I put these on my '78 Gibson RD Aritst which I play through an Ampeg SVT-3 Pro and a '77ish 8x10 Ampeg cab so my tone is pretty solid already, and therefore I'm not sure what I really expected these to do or sound like; I just didn't hear anything that would make me pay the extra price for them again. They feel good to the touch but the tension seems a little more loose than the nickel strings which I don't really like so I will probably just go back to the nickel Super Slinkys once these wear out. Not bad just don't really seem that special. ... show more

  • Bright sound that ends up being fleeting
Color: Hybrid (45-105)
They sound amazing!.... at first. They have spectacular tone and brightness when they are fresh. However, within 6 hours of total play time they were showing some dullness. Within 12 hours they were just as bad as if they had 100+ hours of play time. I also had the same problem that others had where the d-string broke right at the tuning peg while re-stringing. Ernie Ball has great customer service so I got a new set and a replacement set. That being said, both sets lasted a shorter amount of time than the traditional nickel wound strings. Now, if you are a touring artist that replaces their strings every night, absolutely buy these strings, otherwise you’ll probably be wasting your time. ... show more

  • Great sound. Just had a bad set of strings I guess.
Color: 5-String Regular (45-130)
I purchased these strings on Amazon because I had one pop and needed a replacement fast. As I was tuning them up... The D string popped right at the tuning peg. I was frustrated. But... I sent an email to Ernie ball customer service with pictures and a discription of what happened. And they sent me a whole new set and an individual D string all free of charge! I'm very impressed with their communication and overall service. I'm sure the set I had was just a dud or something. I like the sound and punchiness these strings have. ... show more

  • These sound great!
Color: 5-String Regular (45-130)
I use these on a Musicman Stingray. I love how these sound. They give me everything I need and are versatile for countless genres. There's a natural mid scoop that they have which is very musical, but they respond to any mid-boost that's needed. They sit in the mix right where they need to be, yet are clear and distinct. Haven't found a string that does as good of a job. Very impressed. ... show more

  • matter of choice
Color: Hybrid (45-105)
I believe guitar players are some what particular about strings. That being said I am very new guitar I refer to myself as aspiring to be beginner level. So when it was time to restring my bass nobody had a definite answer as to which strings. On a chance I bought these Ernie Ball strings. Best choice I ever made. At least one issue for me is closed as to what strings. Ernie Ball nuff said ... show more

  • I was quite surprised to learn....
Color: 5-String Regular (45-130)
I bought these for my cheapo experiment bass and im actually pretty impressed. They feel great and sound perfect. I can't attest yet to how long they will last, but after about 4 weeks they still sound and feel new. I don't play a whole lot though I will also say that. If your on the fence about trying these out, go ahead and get them, even if they aren't your cup of team they are a great set of bass strings! ... show more

  • Best strings ever
Color: Power (55-110)
I’m in love with the colbalts. Everyone’s playing style and tone needs are different. I like that deep, muddy Mississippi blues sound. These strings are strong and have that depth of tone I like. After experimenting with several different brands I went back to Ernie Ball. All because the Colbalt is where it is at. Perfect blend of functionality and pricing. ... show more

  • The best Ernie Ball bass strings I've used.
Color: Super (45-100)
I've been using Ernie Ball strings for around 8 years and in my opinion these are the best bass strings you can get from Ernie ball. I'm in a rock band called Deadnote (we sound kinda like The Black Crows and Jet, check us out anywhere online) and I've always liked using Super Slinkys, they provide some punch to my sound and offer more tenor timbre that allows articulate playing to stand out better. Compared to other Ernie Ball Super Slinky bass strings, like the regular pack and the coated strings, these provide even more flexibility, texture, tone, and tons of harmonic capabilities. Using these strings I can play harmonics basically anywhere on the bass! I play with a Fender Jazz bass and these strings really bring out the characteristics of the single coil pickups, though keep in mind that they also bring out a little more buzz because of the single coils. I play with finger, pick, and slap technique and these strings work great for all of them. I highly recommend these strings to anybody who needs dynamic strings for many different sounds and with a more treble sound. If you need a more meaty "Motown" sound or something for heavy metal these strings might be too light for you, but Ernie Ball other strings packs like their Hybrid, Regular, and Power Slinkys and one of these would probably work great! ... show more
