The Skybar V2 is a very well designed roof rack with high quality construction. It has a sleek appearance that goes well with the X3's lines, and there are no projections to bump your head on like some universal racks. It fits snugly on the X3's rails and the contact surfaces of the mount are insulated with rubber that eliminate any play in the connection and protect the roof and rails from scratches. When tightened with the included Allen (hex) wrenches (that have handy, solid plastic heads) the roof rack is quite solidly attached to the SUV. The assembly and installation are quick and easy if one attends carefully to the video (in the Amazon listing or linked with a QR code in the printed instructions). On the X3, one bar is about 3/4" longer than the other --which one might not notice-- and one really needs to know that, as the video indicates, that the longer one goes in front. In the last step, the black metal covers with the lock are installed on each mount. This requires a bit of pressure against the L-shaped plastic inserts and being sure that the cam at the rear of the lock is aligned with the slot on the roof rack mount. ... show more

I am not sure why BMW does not come up with an affordable roof cross bar set. This set looks and fits really nice on my BMW X3 2023. Very sturdy, easy to install by one person, does not make noise while the car is in motion, and it looks like an OEM part from BMW. Locks are a nice touch.

Got this roof crossbar for a Yakima Big PowderHound ski/snowboard rack. Overall, its quality looks solid. Not high-end, but good. Instruction book only contains basic pictures, and doesn’t really explain or indicate the torque spec. I just hand tightened them. Its QR code takes you to a Turkish web site that was not helpful. Installation was not as easy as it suggested, mainly the bolts provided were too long for 2016 BMW X3 roof rails. As a result, the clamps couldn’t be tighten. I got shorter bolts (M6-1.0x45mm) from HomeDepot. With the correct length bolts, installation went much smoother. Instruction does not provide any suggestion or direction on the placement of front crossbar. I ended up pop up my moon roof and eyeballed it to make sure the front crossbar does not obstruct moon roof operation. We measured 27 inches from the rear side of front crossbar to the front side of the rear crossbar. The ski/snow rack clamps fit well on the crossbars. The crossbar width is ~2.75 inches. Its locking mechanism comes with two keys and four locking plates for all four clamps. It uses a plastic tab to block access to the same bolts that secure the clamps. Thief could cut away the plastic piece to loosen the bolts. I think the locking mechanism would be more secure if a metal tab is used. Upated 01-17-2022: Crossbars have aero profile. the wind noise is minimum. I cannot hear the noise when music is playing. All and all, this crossbars are good value. Its sturdy and looks OEM. Installation would be easy if vendor provides correct length bolts. I would recommend it for people on budget. P.S. I received prompt response from Erkul seller and offer to ship me correct bolts. It ended up refunding me some money to cover replacement bolts bought at HomeDepot. I appreciate sellers who take responsibility for their products. ... show more

First and foremost, I paid for a new product and got a VERY obviously returned item. First, the box was not sealed. When I opened it, there was dirt and smudges on the crossbars. When I opened the box of parts, I discovered that out of the 8 metal pieces, 4 of them had the plastic parts slipped on. Only they were the wrong plastic pieces. Since they had been forced on and left that way for who knows how long, they were permanently bent and cracking on the sides, as you can see in the picture. In addition, 2 of the long bolts on the top of the crossbars had been completely unscrewed by the previous owner, which meant the nuts that kept them in place had fallen inside the crossbars. I spent a couple hours completely disassembling the crossbars to pull each latching mechanism off, retrieve the loose nuts, place the bolts back in place so the nut was on the other side of the ridge and kept the bolt in place, and reassembling the latch mechanism. All of that with absolutely atrocious instructions! The manual is a complete joke, with terrible pictures that are difficult to make out, and steps that make little sense. I had to resort to 2 different YouTube videos. Of course, it didn't help that the bolts at the top of the locking mechanism weren't properly place, which added to the confusion. After spending a few hours working on it and having to disassemble and reassemble it beyond what the instructions called for, I managed to get it installed. Now that it is properly assembled and in place, I will say it does feel sturdy. As I am currently on vacation and have not yet used it for my return trip home, I can't speak to its performance on a long trip. However I feel that's moot at this point. Given the fact that they tried to pass off a busted-ass, used product as new and charged me full price for it, I'm already going to have to recommend that you find another product from a different company. Unless they reach out to me with an explanation or partial credit for buying a used product with broken pieces, I can't advise anyone to purchase this product. It may end up being sturdy and perform well, but other products will as well, and without causing as much hassle as I went through. ... show more
