  • Very good. Super bright.
I’m going to address this projector from a “Home Use” perspective. I think many of us are curious about that but very few speak on it. First. I love videos/movies. Have a very high end Sony 65” and it is where the bulk of family viewing is done. It is high end and that is noticeable. Even though I can see the diff, I’m not a videophile or video snob who discerns every blurry pixel or jittery movement. These things are important to many and i hold no judgement or opinion on their reviews. I have an Optoma proj that is 10 years old. Have replaced the lamp a few times. It did/does well. I was in a local sports bar and noticed a big screen across the sun lit restaurant and how amazingly bright it was. I snapped a photo of the model and that brings me to this review today. I labored over 10 months on if this was right. Calling it a “work projector” really threw me. The proj I had was pretty good…in the dark. Proj are proj’s so they will never be as bright as a TV in the sun but I need to at least be able to have lights on if not the blinds being open. Nothing like camping out in a cave all Saturday watching college football! :-) What made me decide to pull the trigger on this is that the specs were a fair bit better than my existing proj. I was hung for a while on 60hz refresh until I discovered that all of Epson’s home proj’s are 60hz except one which is $3500. Contrast is much better than my old proj but not as high as the better proj’s out there. I buy those are better quality but what good is 2million:1 if the lamp is only 2000 lumens? I have a Sony for that. So I pulled the trigger. Easy install. Fairly easy setup. These are always a bit of back and forth to get squared on your screen. Football looks amazing! Movies look amazing. Colors are bright and vivid. I’d have loved 4k but not for the price those bring these days - next time! The blacks on the ref pants look flat. This is the contrast I believe. During a break when the sports casters are talking, the black jacket had fine definition and I could see wrinkles and cuffs. It was good. I guess I got used to this on my old projector so it doesn’t bother me. Once again, I like the size and brightness and don’t sweat the detail on a big proj screen because it will wash out with ambient light anyway - unless you want to be in a complete black room. I don’t notice any ghosting in fast movement and movement is as smooth as I need to watch sports, or action flicks. Is there better? Yes of course but for those of us who want very good and waaaaaay brighter…this is the projector! You know if you’re a video snob. You know if you sit there and nitpick each light transition. I love you guys…you’re always right! Nothing wrong with that but if that’s you, this isn’t your proj. For everyone else, this is a very good proj to light up your home. 4600 lumens! Amazing! I kept reading posts that said “meh spend the extra $200 and get a C1 or whatever. The pic is better”. This is true. The ratings on that one, and others, rock. I, however, want BRIGHT. I nailed it based on what I was looking for. If you’re in the market, consider all aspects of how you’ll use. Gamer? This may not be it due to 60hz refresh. Want to see 1000 shades of black in the ref pants as he walks by…this is probably not your proj. Price and quality make it a great option for home! I’d imagine this is a perfect proj for commercial or industrial applications. If you’re not too high on the videophile scale, get ‘em while you can! ... show more

  • Home Theater Use/Sports Viewing
Update: I now have over 50 hours of use on this projector, watching movies, hockey, football and several other programs. I have left it on quiet mode the entire time and it has preformed wonderfully in all light conditions. I couldn’t be happier…. Great purchase. I am writing this review for people similar to me that don’t want to settle for cheap, but also don’t see a need to spend $5000 or more on a projector for an occasional movie. Although I do have plans in my house for a future home theater, my former fixed screen, speakers etc are all currently in storage. My set up in the meantime is a projector networked into a Yamaha Home Theater Receiver with a pull up Elite 107” portable screen for occasional movies, sports and watching The Chosen. This is in a great-room on the main level of my house with windows on 3 sides without room darkening blinds. Due to this setup, movies are for the most part an after dark affair as the Epson Home Cinema 6100 I have been using is certainly best in low to no ambient light conditions. Recently my trusty old Epson had started to show a magenta band on the bottom of the screen and a blue band across the top, so I figured after about 15 years, it was time to replace the projector. If I had my theater room ready to go, I would likely be writing this review on the Epson LS12000 Home Theater projector as I would have made the extra investment into a “home theater” quality projector. However, since I was placing this projector in a main room in my house, with varying levels of ambient light, I wanted something with some higher lumens that would allow for an afternoon hockey or football game to be watched in non-filtered (ambient) daylight. I also did not want to break the bank on an occasional use, non-theater dedicated projector. That’s where my research started focusing on this Epson EX11000 laser “business” class projector, due to the cost and laser light source with ample lumens. Like another excellent review here that factored heavily into my decision to purchase this, I was a little hung up on the business rating of this projector and some of the professional reviews that ranked it okay for watching an occasional movie. As I will likely never project a spreadsheet or presentation on this, I wanted it to be better than satisfactory for movie watching, and like him I wanted higher lumens for some daytime use as well. Well, I pulled the trigger on Black Friday (small discount but nothing to write home about) and just plugged it in and mounted it yesterday. As a test, I watched Top Gun Maverick on Blu Ray during the afternoon in medium-bright ambient light conditions as well as an episode of the Chosen at night with two table lamps on, and finally Paint Your Wagon in full darkness. I started Top Gun in the default settings which was either dynamic or presentation with the cooling fan on. The picture was certainly better than from my old 6100 and the fan was not as loud. I was very pleased with the picture quality and watchability in normal room lighting conditions. As others have noted, it’s nearly like watching a television. My limitations may be more screen related than projector related. Later on for the Chosen and for Paint your wagon I changed the settings to fan off (eco mode) and cinema. Again this Projector performed admirably, certainly an improvement from what I had with no discernible fan noise, which is great because in my arrangement, the projector is about 5 feet above your head. Bottom line it is a great replacement Projector for those of us who have older HD projectors but are not worried about 4 or 8 k projection abilities. I thought the colors were fine, but understand I am not the type that will likely go in and tweak every setting… I’ve tried that on some of my TV’s and it seems to get worse! Yes, on cinema and eco, this projector although totally useable, may be just a little too bright in a totally dark environment. Not terrible mind you, but I was thinking that it would be nice to step it down just a bit on brightness. To be fair here, I never dug into the image controls and the brightness is currently set at 50, so there is certainly room for improvement and adjustments on my behalf. Even though this projector has keystone correction, It is really designed to be centered on the screen it appears. It does not have an offset adjustment like my old 6100 (at least that I can find) and my wall mount is off center from the screen location. The keystone adjustment on this projector is not able to correct properly for the angle I need to turn it since it does not have offset adjustment capabilities. I don’t know if that is something that a home cinema projector like the LS12000 retains or if that is a vestige of the past. Either way, for about 1/4 of the price of the LS12000, coupled with my intended usage and environment, I am more than pleased with this purchase. If you are an average person like me, looking to upgrade an older projector to laser on a budget, this Epson appears to be a solid option without cleaning out your bank account. I would certainly buy it again. ... show more

  • Love it! Upgraded home theatre and its awesome. Super bright, super clear, super easy set up
I am so happy. Upgraded an older lamp projector for our home theatre and its a major upgrade. My screen is 120" diagonal and its mounted upside down from the ceiling 16' away. Plugged in the hdmi and power, a couple simple on screen steps, then it was working perfectly. It has manual adjustments for zoom and focus, very easy to use. The menu is very easy to navigate, they even have notes next to each item explaining what it does. I also love that it automatically turns on and off when it detects signal from the receiver. No more reaching up to power on and off for the kids. It is very bright. It looks nearly identical with all the lights on and the lights off. You could barely see my old one with the lights on and this thing truly looks like a modern HD flat screen in terms of brightness and clarity. If I had to knock one little thing, the cooling fan is a little loud but you only hear it when the audio is quiet or silent. Normal sports or movie sounds and you do not hear it. Very happy. ... show more

  • Very bright at only only 50% brightness.
Our old projector we purchased 7 years ago finally stopped working. It could have been a burnt bulb. But, with newer technology and advancements over those 7 years, we purchased a newer one. We are very happy with the purchase. Old one had a bulb. While the new on uses laser. 4kvideos are so vibrant and has a well defined picture. We have it mounted on the ceiling. Setup was very easy as well. We cannot remark to the sound quality as we connect external speakers through a 3.5mm headphone jack. ... show more
