I have had more fun with this printer than ought to be allowed. Prints look much better than anything on the computer monitor. Works flawlessly printing on disks. The 13"x19" prints are just amazing. If this printer quit today, I'd get another one. My only complaint is the ridiculous amount of money Epson wants for Epson ink cartridges ($83) - but, the Chinese-made cartridges ($17) have worked fine, for me. 3/3/2016 Addendum - Epson Artisan 1430 First of all, if this printer died this morning, I’d order another one this afternoon. I love it. I love the 13”x19” paper size, and being able to print on disks. I love the 6 colors of inks – though it sure does seem to go through Light Magenta and Light Cyan a lot. (They can be ordered separately, thank goodness....) Second, Epson wants $78 for a set of six ink cartridges, while a double set of “remanufactured” cartridges costs $25.95 – two of each cartridge. Of the dozens of remanufactured cartridges I’ve already used in the 1430, maybe two of them were unusable – and all of them are very close to being out of ink when the 1430 no longer recognizes them. (The remanufactured cartridges are often a very tight fit as well, but that hasn’t been a big problem.) If I had to name two things I don’t like, the 1430 will continue printing a whole page even if a print head is stopped up for whatever reason (requires an easy self-cleaning process) and, there seems to be no print buffer built into the 1430 at all – it often doesn’t even release the computer until after the paper ejects – but, this hasn’t been a problem for me. The prints are simply marvelous, unless using lower grades of Matte paper. The printer itself has a large footprint – 24”x13” just sitting there – and a little more if the two trays are open/extended for larger prints.

This printer is amazing. I used to use my company's printer (a 25,000$ Toshiba e-studio printer) but decided to get my own printer (that is more geared towards art prints/all around crafts) and am blown away by the results compared. It took me less than 30 minutes from opening the box to printing witch was my biggest concern since most negitive reviews are about it not even working. Ink I was also worried about but I am happy with how much it consumes (I have made roughly 50 prints [full page full coverage painting prints] and only one ink is half way used [light megenta]) the color is very true to the original peices and is of high quality. It is also pretty fast considering it is a inkjet and text prints are as fast as a laser printer. The paper I am using is Aurora natural from red river and I also tested the sampler I got from red river. The glossy paper deffinatly looks the best but it all looks amazing. It is terrific at printing reproductions of oil paintings but black and white charcoal is nothing special just a heads up. Over all though love this printer. I am 120% satisfied!

I took this out of the box and had it set up and running wireless from 3 different computers in around 30 minutes. I am printing backgrounds and cells for animation. This printer was able to handle most different stock types I fed it: 110 lb archival bristol, regular bond, lightweight bond grid paper, and acetate sheets. Acetate is tricky - the ink needs some time to dry, and printing on standard matte stock generates spread. That said, I'm using standard acetate - I haven't tried an inkjet acetate yet. Across most media, the images were crisp and the colors consistent. It wouldn't take parchment - the feed mechanism is a little aggressive for that. It could be pricey with the six ink cartridges. I bought a separate bulk feed, haven't tried that yet. This seems like a no-brainer in value, quality, and utility for price. I'm really looking forward to putting this printer to work.

Let me start off by saying I'm so happy to finally have a color printer again. My husband bought the last one and imagine my surprise when the page I expected to be multi-colored came out black and white- and I was told he didn't buy a color printer. I've been griping about this for the last two years. It's a Brother that's nice and all, but it's bigger than my three year old so it's an eyesore that doesn't do color... Well, I finally got my turn. I bought a Silhouette and started looking for reviews on color printers that paired well with that machine. This one got some pretty good unbiased reviews from people who were long time Silhouette users. This thing is phenomenal. It'll do a 12x12" page which is ideal for the scrapbookers out there. You can print right onto cardstock or the heavier scrapbooking paper. It supposedly prints photos and it came with some photo paper, though I've yet to try it out. I'm excited to try it though as it will (again, supposedly) do multiple photo sizes. So far I've printed out a number of custom sticker sheets and they're all amazingly bright and brilliant. They look exactly like they do on the screen! There has been a smidge of banding with the blue, but I'm sure it can be fixed. I've heard banding sometimes happens with this printer (and brand specifically) but it's fixable. On mine it's minor. Noting really noticeable unless you're holding a sticker sheet to your face, but it might be problematic is you're printing sticker sheets to sell or printing photos. The set up on this was easy. I've never done anything like that but my sister and I had it up and running pretty quickly. The real reason this is getting four stars instead of five is actually the set up (and the banding but that's less of an issue for me). This is a wireless printer, even says wireless in the name, so I expected it to be wireless. Nope. You need a cable to connect it to your computer for set up. The required cable is not provided and what's even more annoying is that it's only needed during initial set up. So set up requires this one crucial cable, and it doesn't come with it. Fortunately my Silhouette uses this exact cable, so I was able to "steal" that one to set this up. Otherwise I'd have had to wait until the next day, drive to the store, and BUY a cable that I'd need for less than five minutes just to set up this printer. Seriously Epson? Initial set up aside, I'm pretty happy with this and I'd totally buy again. I've gone though an entire sheet of sticker paper and then some. I have a new planner coming so I'm excited to start printing out my own pages. I hate pre-printed planner inserts and always use custom ones. It's worth mentioning this does not do two sided printing!!! This is important to keep in mind for you planner girls! I generally like to print both sides manually because I don't always use weekly sheets, depends what's going on that month. So this isn't a deal breaker for me. But if you sell preprinted planner inserts, or you prefer the ease to dual sided printers because you print a lot of personal inserts this might be an issue for you. For me even if I did want that feature, just knowing I can print my own 12x12" scrapbooking paper outweighs this particular detail. Overall I'm overjoyed with my choice and I think it's a great printer of you own a Silhouette. It's also ideal for scrapbookers and planner addicts for it's versatile size capabilities. I feel lucky to have found this one!

After using this printer for a couple of years, I am upgrading my rating from three to five stars. The problems I initially complained about have abated; the paper feeding has been quite reliable. But the great thing (for me, at least), is that it duplicates the colors I see on the screen almost exactly, as long as I use the "Epson Vivid" profile. I realize that I probably just lucked out with the monitor I have (an Acer), but knowing that a picture will print correctly on the first try saves me much time, paper, and toner, and makes any other complaints insignificant. Originally I wrote: I have some major complaints about this printer: 1. It occasionally feeds more than one sheet at once. That is normally a minor nuisance, unless you are printing on the second sides of a bunch of pages; in this case it becomes a major disaster as the two sides go out of sync. The only solution I can think of is to hover over the printer and immediately remove all the paper from the feeder as soon as you see that a multiple feed has occurred, which forces the printer to stop. I must note that my previous two Epson printers, the 1280 and 1400, also had paper feed problems. The 1400, though, did it gracefully by simply ejecting any misfeed without printing on it, and then pausing. 2. When I first tried the printer, it printed everything in color much too faintly, When I called Epson tech support, neither one of two separate techies couldn't figure out the cause, and finally they decided to send me a replacement printer. When the new printer arrived, it behaved in exactly the same way. I finally, through trial and error, discovered that by changing the Color Profile setting (under the Advanced tab) to "Epson vivid," I got it to print accurately. I can't understand why the techies didn't know to suggest that. It seems to me that if the initial software settings were wrong for me they should have been wrong for everyone else as well. Once I had the settings right, and as long as the paper feeds OK, the prints are of high quality. 3. It is not as easy to print wirelessly from an IPAD as it is on some other printers. I had to install special software, and then it does all right printing files or web pages, but I still haven't figured out how to print emails.

I want to like this printer so very much. The overall quality of the print is amazing. I would give it five stars and more if it weren't for one specific persistent problem. The reason for the two stars is the a persistent paper feed problem. For every print that successfully prints, the machine will feed the sheet of paper through the machine multiple times, most of the time in a row. It makes a simple, fairly quick job a painstakingly annoying babysitting job. Instead of selecting my prints to print multiple, let's say ten, prints, I have to sit by the machine and press the feed/trash button on the machine until hopefully the printer selects this piece of paper to print. It's the most frustrating part of this machine and unfortunately casts a huge shadow over the great print quality. This problem affects any size paper and any kind. Sticker paper, plain white printing paper, presentation paper from Staples, you name it. I've called Epson multiple times and they say it's the paper choice which is utter bull. I've bought multiple Epson branded papers and they all do the same thing. The settings are all correct, heck I even have tried all variations of settings with no change in printer behavior. I'm about to literally throw this machine to the curb and try an HP. This is not worth the trouble. Steer clear. update: shortly after writing my above review I called Epson once again and to my surprise, they offered to send me a free unit to replace this one. I was honestly shocked that they would do that for free. The new (probably refurbished) printer came, along with ink, and I sent the previous p.o.s. back. This machine worked flawlessly....for a couple months. Now that it's the holiday season and I'm printing more (and not unreasonable, like literally ten prints, 8x10 or 5x7 or a combination in a day, then maybe that amount again a few days later. I print on demand for my own illustration prints to sell), this machine decides to give me the infuriating feed errors exactly as described above.Except now, the printer simply will not print. I've tried all the troubleshooting, I've gotten very good at this and even then, the stupid printer won't even print the test papers on normal copy paper! I was so hoping that my first machine was just a lemon, but it seems Epson can't make this product work at all! I wish I could give zero stars.

I had to upgrade from my old 1400 which recently died, but I love the improvements of the 1430. It was cheaper than buying another 1400, and I can use my Continuous Ink System from the 1400 with the 1430. It still offers the option to print on DVD's/CD's, and still has the ability to print on paper up to 13" x 19" which is a big plus. Other than the usual maintenance, it is a simple to keep in line printer, and the quality has never disappointed me. The buttons are now centered on the top of the printer, which is more convenient for the way my office area is set up. For those unfamiliar with the Continuous Ink System, It uses a series of tanks capable of delivering ink to the printer via plastic tubing connected to the ink cartridges. The replacement ink is much cheaper than buying new disposable cartridges. Six separate cartridges are needed, and normally run about $20/each. A CIS sells for $35-$40, and you can get a refill bottle of all six inks for about $20, each containing six times the ink of a single cartridge. 6x 20 =$120 to replace all six cartridges. Multiply that out, and six sets of all six cartridges will run you $720. Or, you can spend $60, half the cost of ONE set of those cartridges for just as much ink. Once I use up the cartridges that came with the printer, I will be installing my CIS in the 1430.

Its good, and my Wife loves it. But the WiFi sucks, and its a nightmare to setup. Print quality is insane. Ink usage is, however, also kinda insane, and a full replacement set is about $100 on Amazon. As far as ink jet printers go, this one uses its fair share of ink. It prints some amazing quality images, and will handle a full size scrapbook page (12x12) with ease. (hence, she loves it) The printer is massive, and heavy, so be sure you have a large space cleared out for it. The bad part is the setup. I'm an IT consultant, and certified in all sorts of computers/servers etc. Even I struggled with the setup. First, use the CD. It includes a piece of the setup application that was missing from the website download. I usually go straight to the website for the latest drivers/software, but after 30 min of trying and retrying (it hangs around the Network Configuration step), i just couldn't get it to work. Finally, I popped in the CD and what do you know - there's a step missing in the web download. Once I used the CD, its setup is pretty-straight forward. That said, using WiFi requires that you connect via USB to a computer first so you can configure the Network, as there are no external setup controls on the printer (unless you have WPS handy (which no professional gear supports)). Since the printer is so big, you have to set it near a computer for setup, install the software on that computer, then move it to the final location to use the WiFi. If only the WiFi was reliable. It drops off the network, goes to sleep, or something. Finally, I resorted to just plugging it into another computer via USB and sharing it over the network. The WiFi idea is great, but without any controls on the printer, if its drops, you're SOL. So, buyer beware. If you need a wide-format, then great. If you don't, you might look elsewhere. Boy do I wish it had a wired network jack.
