  • A little bit misleading?
Model: Engine Oil Tester
Like what the title says, it is a bit misleading and should not be your sole basis to replace your oil. This will only measure light transmittance to detect impurities or metal particles. It is not your only reliable way of knowing when to change your oil and I will only recommend to look into your vehicle's manual and follow that oil change interval. "this is my DISCLAIMER" This came in a box with a long probe that is a bit too flexible for my initial impression. Battery is included but not installed but can be easily placed with a small screwdriver to remove the battery cover. It has a huge LCD and is able to indicate battery level, percent of oil quality, temperature. You can start by indicating oil as diesel or gasoline. Turn on the engine for 1 minute to circulate the oil. Remove the oil dipstick and approximate the length with the probe and maybe add a few more inches to insert them to the dipstick tube. Once inside, press the scan button and it takes around 5 seconds versus the advertised 2 second scanning time but I feel like the waiting time is still negligible. It will give you the quality rating in percent. It is pretty easy to use but there are problems that I realize. I have made some testing where I did not measure the dipstick and it was read as 100% since it is only testing air. I wish it has a way to indicate that it is has not reached the oil yet. During the test, I have 2 cars that are changed around the same time 6 months ago and the one with 5000 miles are rated at 50% and the other one with less than 2000 miles are rated at 70%. Both these oil looks used and dark. I also have another vehicle with oil that has barely 100 mi and was rated 100% and the oil looks like cooking oil at the time of testing as it is pretty new. It does have some degree of validity but it is a big liability if you will only rely with this. A real oil analysis checks for metals, viscosity, contaminants, molybdenum, fuel, antifreeze water contents. Not sure if it test for clarity but at the end of the day, I will still go my miles and time used. ... show more

  • T10 Brake Fluid Tester MAX read is 4%! 30% water reads 4% Quick Easy Recommend
Model: Brake Fluid Tester
Any amount of water in your brake fluid - is NOT good. Increases rust and deterioration of Brake Components. Brake fluid is Hygroscopic - meaning it absorbs moisture or water. Only DOT 5 silicone based fluid - does not absorb water. I like the BELEY T10 brake fluid moisture tester. It requires 4 (AAA) batteries [included] - the battery door is opened using a medium size Standard Screw Driver. Closes screwing it down... I don't like that it didn't come with any type of protective case - course that would just raise the price. I don't appreciate that the small manual does not offer ANY type of certification of accuracy. How much is the % figure off by? Who knows... might be spot on; might not. If it is over 4% moisture - it can get hugely off. And I don't like that the small manual illustration - shows an image of a display of 8.8%. And when you turn it ON - it briefly lights up - showing a 8.8% - which than goes to ZERO ( - - %) Because that is the ONLY time you will SEE 8.8% on the device. I own several vehicles. A 92 Chev Truck which NEEDS to have the Fluid replaced. I checked it using this - and noticed the fluid looked almost mud like.... Tester stated fluid was BAD (via the large 'X') and a 4.0% fluid... Checked my 2013 Outback which I was thinking needs new fluid - tester said yep - bad fluid - 4% Checked my neighbors 'new' car he recently purchased - Honda couple of years old - tester said 'OK' fluid with 1.2% Checked the remains of a new bottle of brake fluid opened up and used about a month ago - small amount remaining - cap on bottle closed - Tester said 'OK' with 0.3% So it definitely works... But the MAX percentage is 4% Insert the testing probe into WATER - it states 4% So anything 4 or ABOVE - what you have is a reading of 4% And that is fluid which needs to be replaced. You also MUST know the type of fluid in the vehicle being tested. Same brake fluid; seconds apart on testing... DOT3 gives a higher % water than DOT4. So for Accuracy - you should know the type of Fluid in the system being tested. It always powers ON at DOT3 Does not "remember" what it was set for - when last used. You press the 'mode' button which looks like a recycle logo - to cycle thru the different types. From DOT3 - DOT4 - DOT5.1 - to special manufacture specific DOT4 (12 more dot4 versions) and back to DOT3 So I think it is a nifty tool; and worth the money. Telling me I really need to flush my brakes.... The testing is Quick and Easy. I am going to try and find a protective CASE for it; and I don't like that the max % is 4. So if your Brake fluid is just TERRIBLE (my truck fluid IS) - maybe it's 30% water - and this reads a MAX of 4%. So at 4 and above - you know you really need to deal with it! You just have no idea of how much above 4% you are at - which is WHY only 3 stars. Otherwise I would have given it 4 stars (because of lack of protective Case) - but that would have raised the price. Oh well. ... show more
