Cutting out the wall and framing it is not a problem. However the metal tunnel panels need to be cut 1/2 inch less than wall width rather than the 1/4 inch in the instructions. The included jig saw blade proved worthless for cutting these due to blade wandering and so I had to use a grinder with cut off wheel. I scored along a measured line and than snapped off the excess. A few minutes with a fine grinding wheel to smooth the edges. The next issue is the retaining nuts for the overly long cross bolts. 2 came loose the minute I tried to thread the rods through them and was lucky not to lose one into the frame of the exterior unit. It took some juggling with a needle nose pliers plus screwdriver, reaching outdoors and in, to get them seated. If the wall cat flap was not mounted right next to an exterior door I am not sure how I could have accomplished it. As to how it looks, it looks good. Not sure of function though since it seems a bit balky on the flap snapping closed. No adjustment for the flap up or down is available to make that better. All in all I can not recommend this as being better than my previous pet door that was simply plastic with clear Lexan flap. Certainly much more a pain to install.

This pet door is a lot more expensive then others and while it comes with some basic tools I’d recommend using your own if possible to avoid injury and for stability.

This is being sold as a cat door, but, of course, it works just fine for small dogs too. Which is why I ordered this door. It’s actually the perfect size for our little Pomeranian. She goes back and forth through the door without a problem. I ordered the thru-wall version of this pet door, so installation was/is a little bit more complicated than installing a thru-door model. The main thing is to just be sure you install the pet door *between* two studs. If you cut into your wall and there’s a stud in the way, you’re going to have to repair the wall. So just make sure you avoid that annoying and time-consuming mistake. Quality-wise I think this is a very good pet door. I don’t have any complaints about it. I have little doubt that it will provide years of trouble-free service. If you have any questions about this thru-wall pet door, please feel free to ask, and I'll try my best to answer. This cat door is exactly what I needed! It's well made, and I love the fact that it insulates the house. You need to be a little bit of a handyman or "fixy" type person to cut the hole in the door, if you're not I recommend asking a Do It Yourself friend or hiring someone--you don't want to mess up the hole in the door. Also, if you have an XL size cat, measure to make sure that it can fit through a 6" wide door. Most cats can, but some of the giant Maine Coon Cats, or Bengals might not be able to use it! For most cats this works great.

I'm so glad I got this! This is what I've been looking for so my cats can freely go in and out of the bathroom, where we keep their litter pans. It was so easy to install and had all the hardware included. The template makes it easy to know how and where to cut on the door. We installed this on a hollow type interior door, but I assume it would be about the same process to install on an exterior door. It feels like it is made well, so I am expecting it to last.

This comes with all the hardware you need to install it. You just need a carpenter or someone to cut the opening out. I installed this in an inside door to a bedroom so the cat can come and go as they please without us having to keep the door opened. It works excellent and the cat loves it. No more meowing at the door. Overall a recommend.
