As advised for much more expensive coffee drippers, I ran several solutions of 50:50 water : vinegar thru the device to leach the plastic fumes from it. (The plastic issue is not unique to just this brand dripper.) Each time I paused the process about one minute into the “perk” by unplugging the power. I allowed solution to incubate about an hour with the top closed, and then plugged the power back in to allow the drip process to complete. I did this with the basket in place, then followed with a couple rinse perks with clean water. This was repeated two more times, allowing the device to dry thoroughly between each cycle. Result? Now free of plastic fumes. I then purchased size #1 cone filters on Amazon. With a few folds they nest inside the mesh basket (even though it is not recommended to use a filter). I now have good coffee with convenient cleanup from this cheap, compact, packable, single-serve dripper. No pods. No pouches. Just good coffee from beans of my choice, with compost-friendly left-overs. * Here are two other tricks I learned to squeeze a more full-bodied cup from the grounds: Use refrigerated water; it slows the perk. Otherwise, it perks in about three minutes. Also, I stop the perk about half-way through by unplugging the power (not recommended for everyone), and allow the grounds to rest for one minute. Then, return the plug to power to complete the drip. I will probably buy another one of these as a spare while they are still available. ... show more

This coffee maker makes fine coffee and it’s the best little ‘cup at a time’ coffee maker that we have found so far, except for the Black & Decker ‘cup at a time’ coffee maker, which they stopped making. The only problem I would report is that if you don’t use the accompanied travel mug, no matter what size coffee cup you use, the drip coffee sometimes ‘plips! out of the coffee mug onto the counter, requiring a quick swipe with a paper towel when the coffee is finished being made. I wish there was an adjustable bottom that could raise up my coffee mug closer to where the coffee drips out so some of the brewed coffee doesn’t ‘plip’ out of my mug onto the counter. ... show more

This compact individual coffee maker brews FAST AND HOT! We use it to brew at least 6 times in the morning. It takes about 18 seconds? And the coffee is hot. I love it. I will buy one repeatedly once it goes kaput. If you want your coffee now and don’t want to get a Kurig which I don’t like for many reasons one of which is throwing all the little plastic cups in the landfill- this is the bomb! ... show more

I bought this one year ago and LOVED it. Then suddenly it stopped making coffee hot enough and the taste was sour. I cleaned the coffee pot thoroughly and the coffee was still sour. Then I tried to brew a cup starting with warm water and the coffee was great again. The coffee maker is the culprit. So now I am torn... buy another one or get something that might last longer than a year? ... show more

This is a simple one cup coffee maker, but it’s all I need. Some of the reviews had me nervous to buy but I have not had any problems. And the coffee cup that comes with it keeps the coffee hot so that is a great bonus. And easy to clean when needed.. Worth the money and if needed will buy again
