Purchased this to replace my old egg cooker and it performs mostly the same (the old one I had lost the parts to in a move) These little things are amazing if you are big on eggs. Want hard boiled eggs for egg salad. This will have em ready in a jiffy with consistent results. Like poached eggs with your ramen but can't get the stovetop tricks to work for you? Easy poached eggs every time. Want a quick omelet for breakfast, put your ingredients in, turn the knob, and do other morning stuff while this takes care of the rest. On top of this I took some time to test this with my powerstation in case I decide to take this camping sometime (I probably won't, but it's good to know it'll work). There's a lot of variance in actual energy used depending on what you are making, but even a smaller powerstation can handle this cooker with relative ease. Some people have commented on the smell and it's just kind of the thing with egg cookers. steam cooking eggs has a DEFINITE smell to it and it's not really avoidable. This damn thing is the bomb. And no, I don't mean a literal one. I mean, Its amazing. Any setting you want and it will boil the eggs how you want it, the cooking speed is literally fast and short. You can easily peel your eggs If you use the hole puncher on the bottom of the measuring cup. No noise by the way. The smell? You can get used to it, and the eggs come out tasting amazing each time. I love this little size cooker. Being a fan of hard cooked eggs I make them all the time but it was kind of a pain to do it in a pan so I seen this and thought it was a better idea than standing over a stove watching them. This shuts off when the water is gone. Well worth the price and your egg quality turn out perfect. No green around the yolk. Also perfect for cooking small potatoes and some other veggies. As long as they don't touch the heat plate under the egg holder. EDITED UPDATE I like the 26 page booklet. It gives explanations for the short cord, polarized plug, important safeguards, etc. It also gives detailed description on how to use it safely. How to clean and maintain this little cooker. In the back of the booklet is 9 pages of recipes of interesting uses of the eggs cooked in this. Then beyond that is "More Recipe Ideas" such as shrimp, salmon, dumplings, frozen corn and other small veggies etc. I have used it for baby unpeeled potatoes. Everything I have done turns out perfect in this little steamer. I live alone so no reason to pull out a pan to boil water to steam one maybe 2 small servings of food that can be steamed in this little gem. The only thing that impressed me more than the abilities of what this can do, is the price. Very inexpensive and with the little booklet well worth it.
