I expect a $500 printer from a top brand name to work right out of the box. Mine didn’t. I set up the Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra and ran the test print. All I got was a small thin cylinder on the bottom of the resin tank - nothing on the build plate. The diagnosis was easy. I checked the build plate for flatness by holding a straight edge across it and looking at a light. There was an obvious depression in the center of the plate (see the photo). This meant the small printed rook did not have enough contact with the build plate to stick. I’ve contacted support, but nothing helpful yet. I’ll update if that changes. In the meantime I will hand flatten the plate, but Elegoo should have run it through a surface grinder before shipping it out. Good news, a replacement build plate arrived and it’s flat. Prints on the Elegoo are fantastic with excellent detail and smooth surfaces. Some of the plate adjustments are finicky, but I’m learning as I go. Update a month later - out of service. A limit switch broke and it’s looking like a three week wait until Elegoo can get a replacement to me. Yes, customer service has been polite, but I’m still not printing. Update again: 20 October. The part finally arrived, I replaced it, and it still does not work. Because of the delay, Amazon will not accept a return of the unit. I am very disappointed.

Over the years I have owned 2 Elegoo Saturn's including this 2 phrozen 8k's and one Anycubic and 2 longer printers. With the exception of 1 of the Phrozen 8ks and the 2 longer printers (all three were workhorses), I can probably count on 1 hand the number of quality prints I was able to generate. This is now my newest printer and I am absolutely at ropes end. I was very concerned when I saw that the 4K ultra added so many new bells and whistles including "automatic collision detection" and a heated vats and such. these things might sound nice on paper but when you put poorly implemented features on top of hardware and software that is budget quality at best you just end up with more likely points of failure. To date I have only been able to get 2 plates to print successfully one of which is calibration prints. I am not an engineering expert but I can see that the new plate design is very flawed and I have tried using every YouTube tutorial and troubleshooting guide on how to get around these problems, but, no matter what I do, the auto collision detection keeps failing. I have tried everything but only had it work 1 time. So if you have far more time to troubleshoot and engineer and are not risk averse or at least willing to roll the dice. I don't recommend the device. I can, however, state the only plate I was able to get to work looks AMAZING. Unfortunately, for me, I'm afraid it is probably destine to just become e-waste. If i find out there was an easy fix that I missed I will update my review but for now buyer be ware

For resin which is messy and has a learning curve this thing rocks. The tilting vat helps get good prints peeling the print off the release film rather than yanking it like most I've used 5 kilos of anycubic standard resin with great success. The build area easily allows printing 1:25 models Only 2 weeks in and I'm loving it. My office is cold so the heated vat is terrific.

Easy to use. No assembly necessary. Heated vat. WiFi capable. Flawless printing. I use it for wargaming miniatures and they look like they were injection molded. Worth the money.
