  • Easy to use.
Works well for my large shop vac.

  • Works as expected
We put in a duct vent fan and the fan was a bit too loud. This works to adjust the fan speed and stop the noise.

  • Functional fan controller
This variable resistance box for fan attenuation is built in a robust way, and it’s clear that it will last a long time. Another feature that caught my attention is that it includes a high and low switch in addition to the attenuation knob. It also has a socket for connecting the motor or fan. Here's a tip, though you might not need it: if you're going to connect a fan with multiple speed settings, it's best to set the fan to its highest speed first, then connect it to the box and adjust the attenuation from there. You'll find that it works very well! It's one of those products that, at first glance, looks very sturdy! ... show more

  • Makes my desk fan run at a reasonable speed finally!
I have a desk fan that I use at work. I like to have a little air moving all day. Even on the lowest speed setting, the fan was blowing pretty hard and rather noisy which bothered my office-mates. Using this speed controller, I can dial it down to a reasonable level. The only trade-off is that the slower you go, the more the fan will buzz. But it is quieter than the fan alone was before, so I call this a win. This device is NOT UL listed or CE certified, so I wouldn't leave it running unattended for fear of fire risk. It DOES have a fuse, so hopefully that would pop before anything catastrophic happened. The controller does not seem to get hot at all when running a light load like my desk fan. It may dump more heat when connected to a higher power device. I disassembled it to see what was going on inside. All the solder connections look good and there is a transistor riveted to the thick aluminum bottom cover for heat rejection. The ground wire is also properly connected and attached to this cover as well. So I am pretty happy with what I see inside! ... show more

  • Not as expected
Appears to be well made. However, The knob doesn’t gradually decrease the voltage. The moment you switch it active, voltage seems to be cut 70% at least and you’re toggling between remaining 30%. I needed something that would gradually take it down from something closer to full power. This doesn’t do that and doesn’t work for me. ... show more

  • Convenient and easy option at ad versatility to an electric motor.
I grabbed this guy so I could add a switch and speed control to a VERY old drill press I have. This guy did what I needed it to do. To be honest I use it mostly as a remote switch and the variable speeds are more just from proofing with a drill press before I go full power but it does work for me. It says in the description not for brushless or soft start motors. So be sure of what you are using it for. It does have a belt clip on the back, don't put it on you belt. My guess this is for hanging it on the side of devices that you add it to temporally. Either way, its simple and does the job as long as its the right application. ... show more

  • Does NOT work with brushless fans - radon fans and so on
I got this to slow down a radon fan, and it will slow it down only on the highest setting on the dial, and if you turn it down too low, you can hear the motor sound change to a bad tone - I am sure the motor will fail if left on a slow setting.

  • Works with many types of motors, check first if your is supported
This appears to have been marketed at some point as a speed control for a wood router and not a FAN control as the included literature and box state; the instructions talk about how to setup and use this control with a router, how to set up the router, and cautions about using it with certain types of wood. There is even a warning label stuck on the control unit that talks about its use with routers. However it now comes in an outer box that says Fan Speed Controller. Since I have a fan that is far too powerful for my ventilation (grow tent) system, I needed a speed controller to slow the fan down about 25%. I thought this controller would do the hob, and it does; but the warning about not using it with certain types of motors was a concern. If you intent to purchase this controller, best to check your motor type first to be sure it is not a brush-less model or any of the other motor types that are not compatible (as noted on the yellow label, see photo). The controller does work with my duct fan, slowing it down. On the highest setting, the fan runs a full speed; but at the lowest setting, the fan is still running at about 25% of full. There appears to be a lower speed limit that is not zero. In summary, it does work with duct fans and it will do the job I got it for. At the low price of this controller, it should get your consideration especially if you do not want to spend more, maybe much more, for the more elaborate rheostat or variable phase/frequency controllers. ... show more
