Great mechanical performance and electrical efficiency. I have been extremely happy with this unit overall. Customer service is awesome. I managed to throw away the o-rings (for the pump). They sent free of charge and even followed up to see if I had received and and it installed ok. They are open to feedback to improve their product. I was asked to provide detailed feedback for their engineering group. Their aim is to provide the best unit possible at a great price. It does have some connectivity/controller issues, but nothing that would make me choose another manufacturer if given the option to go back to the beginning and do it again. Mechanically it is solid. Quiet and performs exactly as rated - you just have to make sure you understand that rating. Make sure you take the time to do the math and right-size your heat pump based on pool size, covered or not, your climate, and ultimately what your want as a set point. Use ChatGPT if you need to. Most that are unhappy with a heat pump's performance had unrealistic expectations. That said- My pool is 5500 gallons. 40,000 btu is rated for 13,000 gallons. That rating is based on set point below what most would want. In Phoenix in the middle of the winter I can now heat my pool literally all the way up to 104°F (max allowable setpoint). The first month (all of January) I set it on 104°F. From 57°F starting point it ran continuously for about 2 weeks to get to low/mid 90°s. My January electric bill was $90 higher than the previous year. On heating mode it only pulls about 5.7A (nameplate says 12A - I assume cooling mode will draw more.) Now that I proved that it can truly heat that far and aligned with my math, I lowered it to low 90s. Don't go in thinking this is a super-heater. It is a super-efficient heater that harvests most of its heat from the surrounding air. It's COP is dependent on the outside ambient temperature. A properly sized heat pump (based on economics/efficiency) will need to be set to maintain. You can't say I want to swim in 90° water tomorrow and have 20-30° to go. That kind of performance requires mass energy (and significantly increased costs).

I ordered the VARMINPOOL 27,000 BTU Pool Heat Pump for 7,000-gallon pools back in September 2025 during Prime Days. I was able to install it myself despite having only limited plumbing experience. I’m extremely satisfied with the product. I ran a couple of tests here in Southern California, and it works wonderfully. I’m using it with our above-ground 5,000-gallon pool and was able to bring the water temperature up to summer levels in just 24–48 hours. It wasn’t cold yet during my October testing (Los Angeles area), but the heater performed exactly as advertised. Make sure your poop pump is a variable speed as the water needs to run slowly through the heater to get heated properly. My issue was that I was using a very fast single speed pump and the water didn't have time to heat when running though the Varmin heat pump. I replace ny pool pump with a variable speed one and run it at the lowest speed when using the heat pump and voila, it works like a charm :) At first, I had some issues getting the heater connected to my existing setup, and later it wasn’t behaving quite as I expected. I called Varmin’s support after seeing another customer mention that they received an adapter from the company. I can’t stress this enough: Varmin’s customer support is the best support service I have EVER dealt with. The representative I spoke with was incredibly nice, contacted the technical team on my behalf, responded immediately, and followed up daily (literally every single morning) until all my issues were resolved. This level of support is almost unheard of these days. In the end, they sent me an adapter to better fit my pool setup, and even after everything was fixed, they called back to offer a perfectly fitted winter cover for the heat pump with properly aligned inlet and outlet holes: all for free! There’s something truly special about this company: the great price point, the great design, and the absolute outstanding customer support. I highly recommend both the product and the company behind it. Thank you, Varmin, for the amazing experience!

Brand new, installed doesnt power on. Not open on weekends. Left a message and email. We will see how they respond. Not good so far. Update went back out sunday afternoon and turned breaker back on to see if anything and the thing powered up. Air temp dropping but i let it run for an hour or so and haven't seen any temp change in water. I would think that i would feel a warmer hose on exitbut haven't yet. Shut it off for the nite will turn back on after work

The heater was easy to install but I had trouble getting it to heat. An email to the company put me in touch with a service rep and the problem was worked out in short order. It turned out to be user error and now that it is set up correctly, it is working well. Thanks!

Heater works great. Were very pleased. Can finally use our pool when we want without shivering. Customer service was extremely helpful. When we lost a part for installation they immediately sent new one without charging us. Then we were called multiple times to ensure the heater was working to our satisfaction. All questions were answered. Quite frankly it's the best customer service we've had in a long time. Highly recommend.

Installed very easily it, and pool is warming up quickly. The company has amazing customer service. I needed to contact them to get the correct size fittings (my mistake not theirs) and their return call was fast and the parts I need are already on the way. I do expect any issues with this heating my pool but I know that if it doesn't work as expected they will definitely send a replacement. Will definitely add to my review once it is installed. Would definitely buy again.

Easy to install and extremely quiet. We installed this unit on a 15 X 30 oval shaped 54 inch deep above ground pool. Pool was 62° when installed. Our pool is uncovered currently has heated to 79° after three days. I believe this unit will maintain our set temperature when completely heated. My target is 88°. I will update my review as time goes on. I would recommend if you can afford to buy a larger unit you should. I knew upfront that the unit is slightly undersized for my pool. I would have given five stars, but the controls are difficult to see, and the app is not usable.
