Bought to be used only for deer hunting season as quiet transport to deer stand and back. I've only put 2 miles on it so far but I am totally impressed so far, plenty of power and the fat tires make for a good ride off road. The brakes could be a little stronger, but for my use they stop just fine. I researched a lot of e-bikes and found this one to be one of the best deals out there as far as overall quality and price. This step through Sohamo ebike is performing better than I was expecting for an electric bike at this price point. It comes less assembled than most ebikes, and that may turn off potential buyers, but for me that was a plus as I enjoyed putting it together. It still only took me about 30-40 minutes from start to finish. It comes with no assembly manual but a barcode on the box leads to a detailed assembly video. All the tools came included, and the ebike was very easy to put together. Pros: This ebike is very powerful. The thumb throttle can give you full power, no matter what peddling assist you are on. The hub motor has plenty of torque, and can cruise up hills with little effort. Brakes are mechanical, but have great stopping power and only minor adjustments were needed out of the box. The Shimano shifter is pretty standard, but works well and again required no adjustments. The plastic fenders are great, rear rack is solid, and folding ability is a plus. The 20 inch tires and small frame makes it a perfect fit for me (5'8") and girlfriend (5'5".) The seat has a lever that will fold up, allowing easy removal of the battery. Cons: The front dampening shock are nothing to write home about. They have no adjustments and just feel like what you would find on a cheap mountain bike. But they do work so I can't complain too much about it. The thumb throttle works well, however it feels a little flimsy like it was made out of cheaper plastic material. The battery (15ah) does not last nearly as long as they say it does, but that has been true with every ebike I have ridden. I can travel 15-18 miles before I start getting dead battery anxiety. Finally, I am apauled by the amount of packaging foam that came in the box. You know the kind that breaks off and clings to everything like white snow? I appreciate that it came well protected, but the amount of non‐recycled materials I had to deal with was terrible in this day and age. Overall thoughts: You get a lot of bike for the money spent on this folding ebike. The build quality is decent and it is fun to ride. I have a much larger ebike that I ride, but I find myself jumping on the Sohamo more often than not. I love the step through design and it's light weight (compared to my other, much larger ebike.) Other than the cheap feeling front suspension, and the garbage bag full of non-recycling materials, this ebike is a good ride. ... show more

Ordered this bike and it performs pretty well, hit some max speed of 26 MPH, but when going downhill, it goes 28, really good bike, good torque and helpful for me and my transportation situation

I bought this bike for my daughter to commute to school and work. I did extensive research before buying and this one was the best combination of features, battery capacity and price. So far, about 200 miles, the bike has worked flawlessly. I have made a couple of modifications as seen in the picture. I added a bag to the rear rack to make it easy to carry a lock and other items. I also replaced the seat with one from an old bike we had as the seat had springs which makes it easier to ride the bike on rough roads. The bike is definitely targeted toward the commuter, not performance or fast riding. It performs perfectly at that task though. Battery life is decent, but you will want to pedal along with the motor or else you will use up the battery pretty quick. All e-bikes are like this though. The controls and LCD panel are pretty basic on this bike. It just has a speedometer, odometer and PAS level indicator. One thing that you must be aware of is that you can only increase the PAS level until it loops back to zero and starts over. You cannot go up and then down. *UPDATE: The wheel came off of the bike on the morning of Oct 31st, causing my son to go flying and the frame of the bike to become damaged. Upon further inspection, there are missing spokes and a bent brake pad. Thankfully, we did purchase the Asurion insurance plan but upon filing a claim they informed me this bike was not registered in their system and stated they'd need to add the bike to their system before we can file a claim which would take up to 2 business days. Still waiting. Hopefully they actually pay for the repairs. Will update. *UPDATE #2 1/3/24: This insurance company SUCKS. We are STILL waiting for the cost to be approved, then they have to order the part and wait for shipping from China. I'd recommend finding another bike, if this one breaks you'll be without for a long time before it's finally fixed. They also won't pay for the labor. Bought this for my 14 year son's birthday. Be prepared, it goes FAST! My son is not allowed to go further than the speed of 3 on flat surface, or 4 if going uphill. Never a need for the 5th speed setting. Definitely sturdy and seems reliable. Haven't added a basket on the back yet but we do intend to. One con is the bracket that holds the battery pack in does seem like it could be better, as the battery us very heavy and the bracket that it slides onto seems like it could use an upgrade. Also, when removing the battery make sure to flip the seat down so you could slide the battery off. We're definitely feeling great about this purchase. No issues this far but it's only been a couple of weeks. Will update if we run into any problems. ... show more
