The unit produces ice, but the writing is a bit difficult to understand. Once you figure out where the silicon pipe is in the reservoir, you'll be able to clear the error (clean cycle mandate, I'm happy that they have the feature that requires you to clean the unit). The silicon pipe on the reservoir is very important to reducing the ambient temperature inside of the housing, but the housing unit does not have good insulation so this means that if the temperature shows over 75-80+ degrees, you will have a very difficult time generating ice. This is not so much the fault of the mfg, but in my case, this ice unit was really close to the outside door in my laundry room. I had to go back in to that room and redo my door weather treatment and seal the room to help bring down the whole room's temperature. Eventually I had to put a swamp cooler in the room and MOST IMPORTANTLY one 20lb bag of ice from the gas station in to the empty chamber when you have a hot temperature. In my case, the error code shown was E2 and I thought I needed to have maintenance performed on the unit. However, while maintenance was the correct showing (for the cleaning cycle) ultimately I was able to just run 2 cleaning cycles, then clear my error code by having ice in the chamber and bringing down the ambient temperature in the room where this appliance is located. In reading some of the other reviews, I almost wonder the use case of the unit because I live in Texas in the middle of summer. It was 109 degrees on my patio today and on the other side of the door was this cooler... it still generated ice today, but only after the most robust weather treatment. YOU MUST ABIDE BY SCIENCE TO GENERATE ICE BECAUSE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE MATTERS :) I attached a pic to help you find the silicon pipe, its on the right side and I used a wooden chopstick (or maybe a toothpick) to get the silicon pipe to release from the top. Let me start by saying I own a lawn company and have two crews. They needed ice water jugs during summer months so I decided to buy an ice machine. Thought name brand was the way to go. I bought a scotsman. It was over $1300. Ran constantly, was noisy and really didn't produce that much ice. I did like the quality of the ice that the scotsman produced, solid clear cubes. Then it just crapped out right after scale removal and sanitation it just quit making ice. The new ice maker was very easy to set up. I already had everything ready from previous machine. Started making ice right away. I turn it on before I go to bed and in the morning it has already filled the cabinet and stopped producing ice. I then turn it off, fill the water jugs and leave it off until night. I wish I had bought this one to start with. Have had it for a few weeks and it performs wonderfully. Check back with me next summer and I will let you know how it is holding up. I was hoping to add to my review. I was going through and reading some 5 star reviews and there was more than 1 person talking about reclaiming and reusing the drain water from the holding tank. I wanted to warn that this is a bad idea. Unless you can sanitize the water coming from the drain, or maybe you are constantly sanitizing the holding cabinet, even then are you sure that the reclaimed water is as clean as the tap or bottle water you are using. This water is meant to be discarded. There aren't any resturants that don't have their holding tanks centered over a drain or connected to one. Reclaiming drain water and reusing it just isn't done it's not sanitary. If you want to use it to water your garden that would be fine.

It's unfortunate I did not catch this in the product description, but this unit will make ice, but does not store it. The bin is not temperature controlled so once the ice is made, it starts to melt. It does make ice quick, but if you don't move the ice to a freezer, it will melt. Not the value I wanted for the money spent.

Makes all the ice we should need. Will stock bagged ice in a small chest freezer for fishing and hunting use. Sure beats going to the ice house and buying ice. Convenience ++. Hope it last for many years to come. Watched a you tube video which made hook-up to water source easy. You tube was done by a plumber. I set it up on a concrete block pad on the garage wall, tapped through the wall and ran piping to connect into piping I had running from the outside faucet. Buried piping on exterior and put in an inline filter between water source and ice machine on the inside. Took a couple of hours, but took my time.

Easy install. I got a few extra pieces to connect to that faucet. Bought the water filter that was shown as an extra on the page. I think setting 5 is too thick the cubes don't break apart easily so I'm playing with the settings. It filled up in about 6 hours.

With recent high prices of ice we (group of 8) decided to chip in & get an ice maker. This little bugger fits our needs 100%!!! We have ice when we need it (every weekend with at least 6-8 coolers) and since we got it 3 wks ago, we figured we've saved well over $100. This machine churns out ice like crazy-- I'm amazed. I make up & store 100-120 lbs of ice per week in an old chest freezer, packed in used plastic grocery bags. I had to run some plumbing & put a filter in line but that was easy. VERY pleased with this machine. Update: With the number of 10 lb bags of ice we have gone thru in 1.5 yrs of usage, the machine has paid for itself based on prices at stores!! Had probs with orig idea of bags (old shopping), sent for actual ice bags. Way stronger and work way better. Machine is a beast-- it churns out ice fast and convienient. Not a bit sorry for buying this machine--nice to have ice on hand at a price that we like!!!
