These are 5-star stools. Too bad the company can't ship the correct ones the first time ordered, however they did ship the right ones once notified and photo's sent. As other reviewers have noted, these are not a quick, lego-like assembly, and the instructions are quite basic leaving out a lot of "best practices" information. I'll share what I did as it has lasted on other furniture for years. Before starting, get some 80-grit sandpaper to clean the tendons, a decent wood glue (I use TightBond II) since only a small amount comes with each chair and who knows it's quality, some blue painter's tape, paper towels and a moistened lint-free rag. Of course, a #2 phillips head screwdriver too. Start by sanding off some of the finish that has been applied to the tendons of the cross braces; it does not need to be completely sanded off, just enough so the glue will bond well to the wood and the tendons fit easily into the leg mortices. These braces should fit a tiny bit snug to ever so slightly loose, definitely not tight before glue-up (having to use a hammer or excessive force is right out!). Put the chair together before glue and make sure it all fits properly...this is an important step to prevent mistakes once you start glueing. Then take a stretch break, since the glue-up is important and not to be rushed and you want your attention refreshed. Before glue-up, ensure the tendons and mortices are clean...a can of "dust chaser" or a vacuum cleaner will do the job. Make sure your paper towels are handy and damp rag is ready. Start with the seat on the ground, inverted. Using a Q-Tip or other applicator, apply plenty of glue in the leg mortices and ensure it's spread around the edges. Glob it in there! Too much glue is much better than not enough! Glue one pair of legs together, put glue into the seat mortices then the leg set into the seat. Repeat with the other legs. Finally the two cross braces between the legs. Once you have it all put together, use the paper towels to wipe off the excess glue, then the moist cloth to finish the glue clean-up. Note that if you're not getting any excess glue coming out as your starting to put it together, then you're probably not using enough glue! Now the fun part, better executed with two people but can be done with one. Using the painter's tape, run the tape around all four legs at the base of the legs to keep them together. Carefully turn the chair up-right and move to a very flat surface. You want to wiggle the chair assembly such that all four legs are flat on the floor and the tendons are fully inserted into the mortices. If you have problems with the legs spreading, just use more tape between legs. The idea is you want a non-rocking stool when you're done. Check again for any glue run-off, then let it sit for an hour for the glue to set. Now come back, turn the stool over, and carefully put the screws in a few at a time, making sure to not over tighten. Here a power screwdriver helps; use at low clutch setting. If you're worried about rocking stools, as put in screws, turn the chair over and check again, adjusting as necessary. Again, check for glue run-off. When done, leave the stool sit for a day. Working together with my wife, it took us about three hours to do all three stools. We did end up with one that has a small rocking...bummer...will need to add a shim to the foot or do some sanding; probably had too much tension with the tape between a leg or two while the glue was drying. Now completed, the stools look great and at 210 lbs, they are very stable to stand on, even though that is not the intended usage! While putting together I was impressed with the quality of wood used and the finish applied...beat my expectations. The color is also very close to the photo shown. Thus, highly recommended with the advice others have given here: "some assembly required" indeed applies. Loss of star due to shipping issue only.

The shipping was faster than expected and the items were nicely packed. I decided to only get one chair out of the package to see how assembly would be. There were not a ton of different parts, but I did struggle with putting the first chair together. I used Gorilla Wood Glue instead of the glue that came with the package which was suggested in other reviews. It was difficult putting it together the way the instructions said. After already applying glue to the main legs, I found myself having to remove them in order to put in the smaller support pieces. I had a wet cloth on hand to wipe off the excesse glue that got everywhere as I was trying to get the pieces together. By the second chair, I had a better approach, and it took way less time and made no mess. First, I did a trial run putting the pieces together without the glue to ensure everything fit together properly. Second, I put glue in the holes in C for the main legs (Parts A and B), then put only the B legs in. Next, I put glue in the holes in B for parts D-F, and stuck D, E, and F parts in. I then put glue in the holes of the A legs for parts C-F, and then installed A by making sure all the other parts were fitting into the holes. I did it this way because it was impossible to install parts A and B with glue, then fit in parts D-F in between without having to take them out. With all the pieces glued in, I installed all the screws with a screwdriver because my drill bit was not long enough to reach down into the holes. Everything fit together fairly easily. Parts F and E would have a gap between the A and B parts, but once secured with a screw, the gap was gone. So do not struggle with trying to get everything tightly together during the gluing process, and let the screws do the work of that. Overall, they are nice chairs for the money. They are solid and sturdy. I bought the antique black to match my kitchen island, though my kitchen island looks more "antique-y" then the chairs when comparing side by side. I bought 1 inch felt pads for the bottoms of the legs so they would not scratch my floor. I am glad I did because most of the leg bottoms were not finished and had a really scratchy surface. I hope this review helps!

These are very nice stools. The assembly is not as easy as they say it is. I had to sand off a little of the ends so that they would fit in the holes. The glue isn’t very good either. The stools are great once you do get them together.

The media could not be loaded. These stools were perfect for my space. I like the saddle seat, makes it more comfortable as it kinda cups your butt in the chair. The assembly wasn’t too bad. Just pay attention to the holes and the direction they need to go. Once the first one is together the rest is easier/faster. Customer service was great also! If you have any questions or issues they reply quick and are very helpful.
