This trimmer is quite remarkable. I absolutely love the intelligent line feed and the fact that it loads line automatically at yhr push of a button. There's one thing you should know about this machine. It is very powerful so if you're planning on cutting a lot of weeds this thing is absolutely perfect. If however you plan to use this to trim around your yard, around plants, post and buildings it can kind of get away from you. The trimmer is so powerful it can actually damage things if you're not careful. Another factor is when you're cutting around delicate items that string feed can jump out on you and suddenly you've taken a gash out of the earth with this thing. I've used it twice now and I'm trying to learn how to handle this trimmer around my wife's flowers. The bottom line is this is a great trimmer you just better be careful with it ... show more

This is our second EGO trimmer because my husband didn’t know there is a five year warranty and they definitely stand behind it. But it’s ok. We will need it years from now or one of the kids will! We also have the EGO battery mower and blower.

Very helpful for cutting grass near walls and in tight spaces. Works well with my 5.0Ah battery. The only downside is that it's a bit tricky to open one side of the tab to change the string.

I have an Ego self-propelled push mower and blower, so easy to go this route. Really glad I bought the self-winding version - that is my favorite function. I spend 1/2 the time I used to on weed wacking because the string management is so much easier. All you have to do is cut a 14' length of string, feed it in, and push the button. No more winding and adjusting. Also, the string length self adjusts without bumping - I was pleasantly surprised how well implemented this feature is. String seems to last longer while doing more work with this trimmer. It's quite powerful compared to other electric trimmers (including ones that are from from a power cord directly) using the same string. I use both 5Ah and 10 Ah batteries with this trimmer; the 10 Ah lasts 3-4 times as long as the 5 Ah when I'm cutting heavy weeds and small saplings down by the lake or by the woods. This is a powerful trimmer for the homeowner and after a year of ownership, I am extremely pleased with it. However; make sure you get a version with a strap if you're going to doing more than 20 minutes of work with it. And especially if you use the 10 or 12 Ah battery. ... show more

    • Dead after half hour of use

It worked well for about a half hour total use over 2 months. It died after first time reloading new string. Tried different battery. I called Ego for warranty, they were very nice and helpful as far as phone support goes. They emailed me the warranty form and said take trimmer to my local Ace hardware where they will inspect it to determine whether to repair or replace it. OK, how long does it take? Ace can take several weeks to inspect it, then after we hear from them it's another few weeks before we mail parts or replacement, then however long it takes Ace to repair it." I know when to cut my losses and opened it up (lots of regular T15 and one security T10 screw) to find that the 50A fuse between battery and brushless motor controller was open. I jumped the fuse, applied battery and the controller input is definitely shorted. ;D My Ego leaf blower is very nice. But my Ego hedge trimmer is too heavy to use and this dead trimmer convince me to give up on my Ego-topian Dream. ... show more
