I've been using an Ego weed whacker for years. Very effective, great product .. but honestly, I'm not a youngster anymore, and the thing is heavy. And I HATE the bump-feeding line; just annoying. My last one worked on .95 line, but I usually used .65 because it just ran better overall with it. I mean, it did its job great, no real complaints, but ... Then I got this latest/greatest EGO trimmer ... and just WOW! First, feeding the line into the reel and winding ... is PUSH BUTTON easy!!! Then ... NO MORE FREAKING BUMPING!!! EVER!!! The older model would take me about an hour to edge and weed whack the entire lawn. Tedious, yeah, but not really hard. Except, well, I'm not getting any younger. THIS baby -- with its carbon-fiber rod, is incredibly light, so even i Florida's 95°/4000% humidity, I could zip through the chore in less than half the time, didn't get worn out carrying it, didn't even have to stop for breaks like I usually do. It REALLY made the job enough easier that I'd almost call it fun ... and I only hesitate because I don't want the missus to think I enjoy doing the yard work because of the obvious fallout ... I'm NOT SUPPOSED TO BE HAVING FUN!! SO .... this was about as close to fun as you can get and still say you were doing work! Good jog, Ego! Oh, and for those concerned about battery life: I used the same 5ah battery for mowing, then trimming, then cleanup with the blower ...and the battery finally quit as I was de-leafing our 900sq ft back deck .... so .... PLENTY of power in one 5ah battery to do the whole bloody yard! ... show more

Trimmer is fine, takes some getting used to coming from a corded as its much longer. The line it comes with is fragile, I have to edge next to retaining walls so it eats line very, very fast. I have to feed line every 10' or so which gets old. I also had this issue with a corded trimmer but then switched to Ugly Twist brand line and it literally lasted 5x as long as standard line. I have not tried the Ugly Twist line in the Ego, its same dia spec but a bit stiffer so hopefully it will work. ... show more

Ego tools are great --save for the string trimmers. I've bought two and my experience has been frustrating. Replacing the string on them manual models is arduous and inconvenient. Also the 'tap to advance the string' mechanism usually fails after a few months of use. So I bought the Powerfeed model, hoping it would solve these problems. But the model I received didn't work at all --wouldn't advance the string and only made a clicking sound. Calling customer service was of little use, since the replacement head is out of stock. Company should have offered to send me a new model entirely, but no way. So I've opted to return the purchase. Word to the wise: the 5 year warranty actually doesn't apply to the string trimmer head --this all important part only carries a 90 day warranty. I have no hesitation recommending Ego chain saws, mowers, and hedge trimmers --but their string trimmers are clearly a work in progress (as is their customer support). Update -returned trimmer , got replacement after 2 weeks and am happy to say it works well. Customer service is awful but tool works as advertised. An improvement over manual loading. Upping rating to 4 stars. ... show more

The Powerload thing is a really slick feature I love. The Line IQ could use a little more delicacy--it really has a big impact when it decides to release more line. That being said, it's still a million miles better than whacking the stupid head all over the place trying to get more line out. Lots of power. If you just have a smaller suburban lawn, don't hesitate to pick up one of Ego's small, light batteries. I use the 6 AH battery that came with my lawnmower; it's way too heavy and I don't use half the capacity. The optional shoulder strap accessory becomes mandatory, frankly, even if the trimmer itself isn't actually that heavy. ... show more

Excellent trimmer. Is a bit heavy but that's mostly the battery which can't be helped given today's technology. Works like a charm and the auto load feature works surprisingly well
