First off, we use several of the Ego equipment at the house, so we are not new to the company. Very trustworthy from our personal experience. We are renting a fenced in property and this trimmer does the job very well. We already have batteries for the chainsaw and the leaf blower, along with chargers. Definitely keep in mind that you will be engaging your lower back so there could be some soreness if those muscles are not worked out. The trimmer is a not too heavy, the battery does not drain quickly and I was able to complete the yard on 1/6 of an acre with battery life left. My apple watch did notify me of noise levels, but that did not bother me. You can wear earplugs if you need to. I think the cost was good. The design is very ergonomic and felt sturdy. My favorite part is the restringing process, which is done mechanically with use of some power from the battery. This is definitely a A+ on my list. ... show more

    • Works fine, with some disadvantages v. gas model
This replaces a high-end gas model from a major commercial manufacturer. This unit is MUCH quieter and does not have all the fumes. Plus, no storing a can of gas in the garage or shed. Battery life is very good. I can use the 5Ah battery that came with my Ego mower, and have plenty of juice to trim and mow on a single charge. My yard is about 3000 square feet. Weight is equivalent to the gas trimmer with a full tank, and balance is good, once the handle is adjusted properly. The gas unit was more powerful and had a smaller, more maneuverable head. But, for a residential yard, this works great. ... show more

    • Ego battery powered string trimmer
This is the only string trimmer that I ever planned to have on my property again. This is the second one that I have purchased and I work with the crap out of them. I did not think I would like the battery feature but I really do. I ended up purchasing another battery just so I could get more accomplished. One of the features I dearly love is that itself threads itself. All you do is poke your string through the little hole push a button and it automatically winds the string up for you. With my puny eyes this is a feature that I just dearly love. Another feature that I dearly love is that you can touch a button on the battery and it will tell you how much life you have left in it. This weed eater Powers through thick grass that even my lawn mowers cannot tackle. It also murders stick weeds taller than I am and I'm 5'3. I even cut a path through a hay field so my pups and I would have a clear pathway to walk on as keeping the tall stuff down helps with the tick problems. I love this trimmer. I use it for my residential lawn and I use it as an edger as well. For edging, you can rotate the handle, but I don't even bother doing that. I just hold it upside down and it's simple. I did remove the protective cover on the trimmer because that makes it easier for me to see where I am cutting. The problem with doing this is that it does kick up things towards your face at times. So never use the trimmer without safety glasses, especially if you take off the protectiveness cover. ... show more

The trimmer itself is find, its the warranty that is the problem. When I purchased this on Amazon, I saw the seller was some other company but did not see anything in the description that EGO would not honor the warranty if the product was purchased from the seller. So, after 2 years, the motor burned out and because EGO did not honor the warranty, I was out a string trimmer and the money I paid for it. So if you are buying something, make sure the manufacture will honor the warranty. ... show more

    • This thing’s is the “bomb”
Best trimmer I ever owned. I’m age 75 living with mantle cell lymphoma with neuropathy in hands and feet. My wonderful Christian neighbors maintained my 2 acre yard all last summer while I relearned how to stand, walk, feed myself,etc. You get the picture. This year after much PT and OT I determined to do my own yard work. I turned to EGO battery tools, Z6 ZeroTurn mower, blower, clippers and this string trimmer. It has a variable speed trigger for use around solid objects. Also has a high/low switch. I kept it on the low speed switch setting throughout my 45 minutes of trimming today. It cut everything I asked it to including small tree sprouts trying to grow where they shouldn’t and thick weeds. No problem. This trimmer is very powerful. I used a 2.5 ah battery. I wouldn’t recommend anything heavier than a 5.0 ah battery. I used and highly recommend the shoulder strap which put the weight on my shoulder and avoided arm fatigue.
