  • REVIEW [After +2 months use) + [Replacing another EGO mower]
[Pros] - Torque of +8 ft. lb really matters. Gas mowers (residential) usually cap out at 7 lb or 8 lb so matches in torque. - +6 in or 8 in grass cuts with ease, does not bog down. Previous mower could not (LP2100SP) - Allows one to avoid grass cutting weekly either by choice or due to some commitment, missed. - Mulching is substantially better in comparison to previous mower. I personally reviewed the blades and found them spread out evenly on the cut grass. - As usual, very quiet when compared to gas and actually found to be quieter than previous EGO. - Quality of cut - extremely good. Did not find areas where it missed, etc. This select cut feature actually is indeed better than single blade. - Reiterating: Quality of cut due to dual blades + the 8.3 ft torque really matters! - No discerning negative due to having plastic body rather than steel. - The upright feature and sliding into position improved compared to previous mower. - LED lights allowed me to work twice with limited available lights and works as designed. - The provided phone case is good, came in handy twice. - Additional blades provided is nice. Allows me to change or have as a backup. - Charging using the turbo charger is really quick. - For my 4000 sq. ft property had battery still left over and was cutting +8 in grass every time. - Feels lighter and more easily maneuver than my previous EGO for some reason. - Bagging is better compared to previous EGO. [CONS] - Side discharge as with earlier model - continues to be a joke. - Really liked better the earlier way of self propel than this one. Accidental press of buttons on the handle always happened from my end. - Continues to lock and need slight push to disengage. - The speed control rotary switch in the middle is badly designed. Earlier a quick flip of thumb worked but now have to use both hands. - Self propel has small issues. Sometimes for no reason slows down on its own and then revs up. That never happened with earlier model. - Mower tends to rev up / down on its own depending on load (grass size/wetness/thickness) and there's no way to stop this intelligent behavior. I find it very disquieting. - Max speed of self propel is low. Nor is there any ability to detect and adopt to walking speed. - The handle clip (green) continues to be a potential sore point in design. In terms of having to open handle fully and then lock the green clip. - Plastic wheels is an issue. With this being lighter than most EGO, tends to have a jarring effect on uneven ground. Either introduce some sort of suspension management or switch to pneumatic tires. - Battery compartment is not water resistant even. Garden hose cleaning causes water to enter compartment, always. - The translucent battery cover continues to be cheap plastic, scratching easily. - No front, side bumper protection. EGO should at least provide it as an accessory. All the 3 sides exposed immediately get scratched and bumped. - The bag provided has a rubber flooring which is easy to tear and had happened twice with my previous mower. [Recommended to buy or upgrade} - Yes. - Most of the CONS are cosmetic and can be lived with. - Due to its noise management, very high quality grass cutting and most importantly its HIGHER TORQUE supersedes every con and thus recommended to buy. - Technically - the only EGO which can compare to this model and might be a better buy however at approximately +400$ extra would be in 2206 version with steel deck and 22". The only comparable version in terms of torque will be 2042SP version, however sacrifice will be the battery amps. ... show more

  • Impressive!
This was my first experience with a powerful battery powered piece of equipment so I was a tad skeptical that it would be as powerful as a gas mower. But shockingly it was equal and a tad better at self propelling. PROs - pretty much pre-assembled - just a few adjustments and putting on the output shoot - battery charged faster than others I’ve owned and extra battery that came with the promotion ensured we had plenty for our 3/4+ acre lawn - the original battery lasted for the majority of the lawn and stayed strong. Used extra one at the very end - amazingly easy to start compared to combustion engines. I have always encountered trouble with starting the engine on first try but this was a breeze. I’d buy it again just for that (and no gas/oil mix). - should be much lower maintenance if taken care of (I have a small electric weed wackier and it has sun perfectly several years so far. PRO/CON - The self-propelled was was powerful - but almost too much for a small person. When I first tried it, I felt like an owner being “walked” by their large dog. It pulled me along almost jogging. Since then o have reserved using it only for inclines for which it is perfect CONs - it’s heavy. Which is good as it keeps low to the ground when mowing but though it fold up easily, it’s heavy when carrying it into the shed. The instructions say it shouldn’t be left outside. - worked slightly less well on a longer patch that hadn’t yet been mowed. Had to go over it twice. But never had to do that again as works well in subsequent mows. ... show more

  • Awesome cutting power, quiet, and the smell of grass while you mow
My previous mower was a gas-powered Honda self-propelled machine with twin cutting blades. I did not want to give up its advantages, but wanted to leave behind the gas and oil. This EGO machine delivers, and then some. Same: they both start reliably (I wouldn’t ever trade a Honda engine for B&S), and they do the heavy part of moving themselves along the terrain. Both of them can do our third acre on a single helping of fuel/electricity. Different: this mower is much quieter than the gas machine. It is NOT silent, but the noise is that of an electric motor and whirring blades rather than the explosions of a small engine. My spouse and I found that we could talk to each other without shouting while one of us was operating the EGO. The self-propulsion works even when the main motor is powered down, so you can have the mower help pull itself from place to place. Unlike the Honda (and as far as I know all push-along mowers), I know how much charge is left on the battery. The wheels adjust with one lever. The handle adjusts with one lever. And when the handle is folded down completely, it can be used to roll the mower and stand it up on end for storage. (No oil draining out when you do that, either!) On two runs, we have not exhausted the battery either time. The battery (10.0amp model) and charger are both heavy duty; you’ll be startled the first time you plug in the charger and its cooling fan runs briefly. I have not stalled or stymied this mower once, including in some taller and wetter brush. It works like a champ, and with a price comparable to what I paid for the Honda ten years ago, I feel like I’ve lost nothing and gained a whole lot by moving to an electric mower. ... show more

  • EGO Equipment is simply the best!
The best mower you can buy. Easy to use, no gasoline issues to deal with and a GREAT cut. Will never buy gas mower again.

  • Not perfect, but better than gas
I have an EGO leaf blower and line trimmer, and like their products. My new lawn mower is no exception. This thing really does have power, stronger than my past few gas mowers (Craftsman). More than enough for dry, heavy (but not crazy) grass. It definitely made full width cuts at normal speed in sections that always get really heavy on my lawn that used to make me take half width cuts with my gas mower so it wouldn't die out or make me stop until it got back to speed. It is just SO much easier to just press a button and go, and a LOT less dramatic cutting the lawn without all the noise and vibration. I wouldn't go so far as to say it makes it fun, but it is a lot better than it used to be. It does a nice job cutting the lawn and leaves it looking great. I also like the easily adjustable variable speed, and especially like the fact that you can use the self-propelled feature without having the blades spinning. A feature I never would have thought of, but it sure comes in handy when traveling across a street or driveway, running over debris, or just getting to your starting point - or back to the garage. The only thing that would make this better, would be more battery life. My yard is not all that big, and I have the 10-amp battery, but it was not able to finish the whole thing. I did have some heavy grass, so was dipping into the 'extra power' on numerous occasions. I also am using it as a mulcher which cuts battery life a lot, and also used the self-propelled mode just about 100% of the time. I have more batteries, so it was not a problem, but it would have been cool if I could bring a second battery along with me instead of going back to the garage and getting another. The batteries DO charge up pretty quickly, especially with the Turbo charger, so I feel you could pretty much go non-stop with 3 (or even 2 with more efficient mowing techniques) batteries. My other negative comment has to do with backing up after propelling forward, especially if you are going back and forth in an area. Occasionally it would lock the wheels, and I would tap the throttle quickly to let it freely roll backward. I admit that could be operator error, or at least education, so I don't count it as too much of a flaw. None of that matters much though, when you push a button and go cut your lawn, in a relaxed, much quieter environment. No filling gas cans, changing oil, fowling plugs, clogging air filters, etc. Sure, I'd like it to be even better, but it is already at the top of electric mowers, which have, or will, revolutionize how we mow our lawns. ... show more

  • Quiet and Effective
I have a Honda combustion mower that works pretty well. However, I already have an ego leaf blower and ego trimmer, so I thought it made sense to try the mower. I got this one sort of on a whim, but it got good reviews on Amazon and on Consumer Reports. It wasn't cheap, but if it lasts, it will save in the long run--in theory. I've owned it for about a month now and have used it twice. My yard isn't huge, but it's got some steep parts. Part of why I wanted this type of mower was that it's lighter than my regular mower for those steep hills. It works great for this and it is noticeably easier to do those steep parts of my yard. Additionally, I wanted something quieter and this thing is very quiet compared to my regular mower. My wife commented at how quiet it was. As for battery life, I can mow my entire lawn on a single charge of the big battery that comes with it. Whether it will stay that way after, say, a year, remains to be seen. That being said, I have like, 3 smaller batteries that would fit it, so I could easily snag one and finish off the yard if needed. I'm a little concerned about the long-term durability of the mower because it's basically all plastic. I guess you have to compromise on materials if you want it to be lightweight. I think a carbon fiber mower would be a bit absurd/expensive. Anyway, so far so good. ... show more

  • Died After 3 Months!
8/1 Update: Finally got in touch with support after 3 calls and 2 failed call backs. Went through all troubleshooting steps on call with support. Told me that I probably need to take it into a service location then put me on hold for 20 minutes only for them to tell me the closest service provider is an hour away. Best part, they're not open weekends and only 9-5 so I'll have to take off work (twice) to take it and pick it up. Reviews says people usually leave their mowers there 2-4 weeks so I guess I have to try to keep my old gas mower running in the meantime. I emailed the warranty department and asked for any alternate solutions (maybe a replacement). Will update if issue is resolved and how long service takes -- but it doesn't look good. I feel like I just threw away hundreds of dollars -- and they're asking me to throw away hundreds more in time and lost wages. They stated if they can't fix the issue then they'll replace the unit but until then this just feels absurd. Also, updated headline to 3 months. Received product on 4/15 and earliest date I would have mowed was 4/20. Last time I know I used it (and it actually worked fine) was 7/7 -- so less than 3 months and this thing just stops working. -- When you spend this kind of money on a product, you expect it to work well and for a long time. I've used this mower probably around 10 times since I got it and didn't have any major issues. Recently we've had a bit of a drought so my grass has barely grown the past 3-4 weeks. However, I do have some new grass coming in following some construction (lots of watering) and there are some weeds still popping up throughout the rest of my yard so I figured I mow today -- now the mower won't start after sitting in my garage for a couple of weeks. It worked fine when I put it away ~3 weeks ago. I had to gas up my old mower (which I almost threw away but just haven't gotten around to it yet) to take care of the yard work. Yes, the battery is charged. No, the second battery doesn't work either. Both are kept indoors to stay away from extreme temps. Yes, they work fine in other (neighbor's) Ego tools. Yes, I checked that handles were extended and locked. Yes, I checked that battery was seated properly. Maybe it'd be nice if they're going to pack a device full of technology based safeguards you'd have some type of feedback mechanism for troubleshooting. No flashing lights, no beeps, no clicks, no display panel... it just doesn't do anything! No help in the manual or on their website. You have to call or email for support. I called customer support (luckily open on Saturday), waited for 20 minutes before I requested a call back. About an hour later they called back and hung up/disconnected mid-sentence before taking any meaningful info. They haven't called back again so I guess I'll have to request another call back. Found some videos on YouTube that make it seem like the relays go bad in these things all the time (at least 3 relays are used just to start the mower). Some videos suggest that you don't fold down the handle after each use because the wires in the handles (between 2 relays) wear down and fray -- then what the heck is the point of advertising that feature for "compact storage". I'm hoping that's not my problem because I've folded the handles up/down maybe 12 times so far. If that's the problem... then the product truly is a piece of garbage and I'll be requesting a return/refund from the manufacturer (I'm about ~30 days past the Amazon return window). I'll update the review if/when I get some resolution -- which better happen since I registered for the extended warranty. ... show more
