I live in the Bay Area and the power outages are becoming regular occurrence. So i bought this and it has been incredibly useful during this most recent and ongoing outage. It is pure sine wave so it powers my sony 50" tv, and anything else 150 watts and below. Not sure why someone described it as glorified laptop powering station. I would highly recommend this for anyone with existing Ego batteries. The price is not unreasonable, particularly since the inferior Ryobi 40 volt system inverter is the same price. With a little more usage of the device, I should point out that I was not able to power up my Sony 50 inch TV with the 2.5 amp battery. The 5.0 worked well. I believe you will find all these specs in the description of the product. A smaller TV might be OK with 2.5 amps. The fast charger requires wattage of 550 which will require a generator or powerful car inverter. the slower charger is 155 watts, which worked with my Bestek 500 watt inverter with a bunch of things running on it. The one small detractor is it doesn't seem to turn itself completely off when not used. There is an easy on off switch, but if you just unplug something and let is sit there, I think the battery drains a bit. There is only AC plug. The two USB outlets you could do without given all the options that exist to charge your phone or iPad I just bought another one. You can't match the portability and its fine for most indoor stuff you'll need to keep running during a power outage under 24 hours. Beyond that, this won't run important stuff like a microwave, etc. But you can plug in your modem/router, cable box, and TV since it puts out a pure (as opposed to modified) sine wave. And a table lamp on top of that. just need to split the one AC plug on it.

I was on the fence about getting a battery powered lawn mower, but after it having proved it's ability I'm "all in" for EGO's product line. Since all of their batteries work with all of their products, you have a lot of flexibility. With this little gem, you have a great power inverter that can use those batteries for travel, camping, or emergencies. (You DO have to be able to recharge them, but there are options for this as well.) For power outages, you can't beat the convenience of slapping in a battery and being able to power several items or a decent sized appliance. I saw a review online where someone ran their full sized refrigerator on one of the battery packs for an entire day. I've used ours to power a "Bodega" cooler which is designed to work off of either normal AC or 12V. We were on a trip and while the cooler is designed to use the truck battery until it starts to "weaken" I just used this and it kept things perfectly cool while not stressing my truck's electrical system at all.

The first unit I received was a dud. I got the red power button light issue indicating overheating. After contacting EGO support I was shipped a replacement which has worked flawlessly so far. I do wish this was a little closer to 800w for the money just to allow for running a full sized shop-vac for a few minutes in places with no power. Hand tools like palm sanders, sawz-all, and other such things seem to be within the capabilities of this device though. I have used a 100w solar panel with a USB-C power delivery module to power to charge connected batteries while powering the TV (45watts) which works well in full sun. A 100W USB-C laptop charger works well too, but at 100w it will take quite a bit longer than the dedicated charger to reach full charge, but this varies depending on how much load is on the inverter side too.

Something the big 2000 watt Nexus needs is the ability to charge the batteries while you're using the inverter. This PAD5000 can be charged through the USB-C port while the inverter is powered on! They really need to advertise this because it's a very desirable feature. This way I can power a car fridge while it's being charged by the 12V power outlet (through a 12V to USB-C PD adapter) so that when I turn the car off, the fridge can run off the battery. Other things to note. The LED light has two power levels. It still functions if the inverter has overloaded, and so do the two USB ports and USB-C charging. It draws 48W from my 45W charger and 86W from my 87W charger, so that is good that it can charge at the higher USB PD rates. It has a built-in multi-speed fan that gets a little loud at full output but I'm glad it's there to keep it cool. I'm charging it at 86W, and the fan is running quietly but audible. It doesn't have any rubber feet, so it's going to get scratched up. Another huge improvement over the smaller Nexus is that this outputs a pure sine wave. You never want to use a modified sine wave with pretty much anything these days. I'm also glad it's so much smaller than the monstrosity the larger Nexus is. There is absolutely no reason for it to be that big. I have a 48V pure sine inverter that's the size of a small car amplifier, so I'm sure they can make it smaller. A strange behavior that I noticed is that if you overload it, you can't reset it until you unplug the USB-C charger from the USB-C port. Holding down the power button doesn't do anything until that's unplugged. I would have expected to be able to reset it by simply holding down the power button for a second. Wish list: I wish there was a way to parallel multiple units together for increased runtime and/or capacity. I know I can easily wire more batteries in parallel though if I want to because I did that on my 2000W Nexus so that I could power my window AC all night for camping. I used my eBike's 52V batteries (because Ego batteries are 52V batteries - 14 cells in series). The other reviewer is right in saying that having a power button for the inverter would be nice because sometimes you only need USB power. Shutting off the inverter could save a few watts, though in practice this isn't really significant unless you need to power a low-power device for days at a time. It would be cool if you could use it like a computer UPS, which you can but the problem is that the battery would always be fully charged, and lithium ion batteries never like to be stored fully charged. If you don't already know, the best way to store lithium batteries is at around 40%. If you store them fully charged, you'll quickly find that they won't last longer than a few years, even with their self-discharging feature. It's best to not leave them fully charged for any significant amount of time to reduce permanent degradation of the cells. And speaking of that, it would be cool if you could tell it to stop charging the battery at a certain charge level or voltage, for example 40% for storage or 80% for best life or any percent I choose. Imagine not having to replace a UPS battery for 10-20 years. And this feature should be added to all Ego chargers so that I don't have to manually discharge all my Ego batteries. It's such a waste of time. And speaking of UPSs, it would be nice to have an AC input jack on the unit so that it can be plugged directly into the wall for charging or pass-through charging. Anyhow, I really like it, and I'm sure it'll sell like hotcakes. Good job Ego!
