I can't begin to tell you how much easier this is to use than my 18" gas chainsaw and how much faster it makes the job. This has plenty of power and cuts through a big 14" tree quickly and easily! The real difference however, showed up when I was clearing a large tree with a lot of branches that had fallen across my driveway. I was cutting branches into smaller sizes to haul away, so there was a lot of putting down the saw, then picking it up to cut, then down again to haul the branch away. The time saved was amazing, because you picked up the saw, pulled the trigger, cut, set the saw down. With the gas one, you'd have to pick it up, start it, rev it, then cut, then turn it off and set it down. The gas saw runs (loudly) the whole time from starting to stopping and it's much heavier. The electric saw only runs for the short few seconds you make a cut. That may not sound like much, but I felt it significantly reduced the time it took me to do the job. Also - no gas/oil mixture to worry about - just bar oil. I like that I can use any of my Ego batteries in this saw. For quick jobs, I can use the light ones that came with my trimmer, but for heavier jobs I've got more and bigger batteries that came with other Ego tools. The only real question now is durability. Nice powerful saw and the charger is relatively quick but need two batteries if you are doing some extensive work. Recommend getting a quality chain and replacement guide bar as they will wear out and useful to have them available before you need them.

Unbelievable performance and quality. I've cleared about 5 acres of pine and hardwood forest using both gas and electric chain saws. This saw's speed, utility, endurance and comfort puts all those other saws into long-term storage. Not suited for tree climbing use unless you're really strong, but for normal tree cutting, sawmill log prep. and firewood segmenting, it's a blessing. ... show more

    • Almost Perfect, But probably the Best In the Market, but needs a slightly larger AH battery!

I have 2 Echo chainsaws I have used for years. They still do a great job, but the Ego cuts just about as fast, is more convenient for mid-size jobs, a little heavier, you don't have to mess with gas starting and carb adjustment, etc. Cut down a midsize pine tree and still had some battery power left. If you have a number of trees to cut down have two or more batteries charging or on charge to keep going. Seems to take a little over an hour to charge the Ego battery. Extra batteries are expensive, but it is a better value to buy a blower or other Ego product with a battery and charger than individual batteries/chargers. Just try to stay away from the 2.5 AH battery (wimpy). Get at least a 4.0 AH or better yet a 4.0 AH battery with the extra Ego tool(s) if you can. I would have rated it a 5 if the battery available was a 5.0 AH battery. There is one thing to remember about the Ego battery system. Most manufacturers use lower voltage batteries. Ego is 56V. Much of Dewalt tools are 20V. Now why is that important. Because the manufactures fail to tell you the real POWER a battery/tool combination has. They like to list 2AH or 4AH or 5AH. Those amp ratings are only part of the answer about power. To get the real power number multiply Amps x Voltage to get Watts or Power. With the Ego batteries at 56V they are over 2 1/2 times more powerful for the same Amp Hour rating. Manufactures should be listing both Amp Hours and Watts/Power. ... show more

Husband loves it. Not too noisy. Works well enough as we recently experienced with clean up after hurricane Helene. We keep charged and ready to use. We also have purchased a compatible replacement battery as we used it for longer periods during 6 days without electricity.

This little chainsaw is amazing! It comes ready to go right out the box, just add chain oil (purchased separately). I bought this for two reasons. First, I needed to take down a dead maple tree in my front yard. Second, I can carry this in my Jeep when out wheeling, not worry about smelling gas in the cab, and I have full confidence in it's abilities. More on the saw: Tree was about 12" at the base and approx 25-30 ft tall. Took down and chopped up the entire trunk to 14" pieces all on one battery charge. But wait, that's not all! Before I could celebrate my triumph, my neighbor comes out to admire my new chainsaw and give me lumberjack compliments. Of course, his wife came home at this same moment and reminded him that he too had a dead maple to take down that was dying just as mine had. Admittedly, his wood was a little bigger, about 14" at the base and 35' tall, but of course we figured with two chainsaws working on it, we'd tackle it no problem even if I hadn't charged my battery. After felling his tree he fired up his chainsaw and I kept going with mine to cut it up to 14" pieces. His died after 1 cut so all alone with a whole tree to tackle, the EGO lasted through the whole trunk!!! I cut the stump down close to the ground when the battery finally died right after the last cut I had. I was truly shocked with how long the 4ah battery lasted in the 18" saw! ... show more

This is a good product for doing the light job that I wanted to do. It works well and it is quiet. Be advised that the chain saw is shipped without chain oil so you need to buy some chain oil and install it before you start up the saw. I got the 4 Ah battery which adds some weight but I have other EGO products and for the job I was doing I used the 2.5Ah battery which is a little lighter in weight.The Saw still worked well with the lighter battery. I sure it will run out of juice more quickly than the 4AH battery but I have additional batteries from other EGO products that I can use. I'm sure you can cut down small trees with this saw but so far I haven;t had to use it for that application. I recommend this saw. ... show more
