  • Another tool I didn't want to own, LOL.
Style: 16" Chain Saw (No Battery/Charger)
As the headline says, I did not want to own a chainsaw. I've managed to get by without one for a few decades. But..... I need to rip out a bunch of overgrown evergreens around my pool area including a 30 foot tall blue spruce. And a huge block of mugo pines that have blocked my vision at the end of my driveway. And then there's a decent sized oak on the woodline at the rear of my property. It's rotten and leaning toward my garden shed. Better it comes down in a controlled fashion than a storm. I haven't bothered getting quotes. I know it would be a couple thousand dollars in my area. OK, I give up. I bought this EGO chainsaw. It's a last generation CS1600 and Bomb Brands had a new one in a damaged box for $179. Let's see, $179 vs $2,000. Chainsaw wins. This 1600 has slightly less power than the new CS1610, about 14% less. That's meaningless to me. They've changed the controls around but it's basically the same "no tool" chain and bar adjustment. So once again, I don't care. The CS1610 has a red line added to the kickback blade stop. I did the same thing with some red nail polish borrowed from a female friend. So, don't care again. The only really new feature on the CS1610 is bucking teeth so you can dig into a log for leverage when cutting. But once again, I'll use this thing so seldom that I don't really care. I just need a bare bones tool for occasional use. Other than that, it has automatic chain oiling, it's light, quiet, and it uses the batteries I already own. Replacement bars and chains are readily available and cheap. It is so much easier to use than a gas powered saw. The only consumable is the chain and bar oil. This thing will pay for itself 10 times over with these first few little jobs I have planned for it. Edit one day later: So I dropped the blue spruce (12" trunk) limbed it and cut it up. Removed 2 huge mugho pines at the end of my driveway, and cleaned up a stump from a 30 foot tall arborvitae I cut down a few years ago. The saw worked great. It made the work fast and easy. The spruce pretty much drained a 5 AH battery. The mugho pines and arborvitae stump didn't even put a dent in my 7.5 AH battery. I'm happy with the saw. Much cheaper than the $2,000 a professional would have cost, LOL. EDIT 8/23/24: We got once in 1,000 year rains a week ago. I had one huge oak come down in the woods at the back of my property line. About 50 feet tall and 16" diameter trunk. The woods are pretty dense / packed in there. So when that big oak came down it did a lot of damage to other trees. I ended up taking down 5 trees total because they were either damaged and/or leaning towards my garden shed or out over the yard. The Oak was the largest but they were all 12-16" in diameter. I figured it was better to take them down in a controlled fashion rather than risk injury to people and property if they come down in another random weather event. This chainsaw did a great job of making short work of the trees. But..... the EGO OEM chain sucked. It was basically toast halfway through my initial project with this chainsaw and was burning its way through the wood. After that I ordered a 3 pack of new chains off Amazon from JUMUZHE, $25 for 3 new chains. I had no idea what to expect but the new chain was amazing. Much better than the OEM chain from EGO. It went through 5 good sized hardwood trees like they were butter and is still cutting well at the end of the job. This chainsaw will do everything I'll ever need a chainsaw to do. But do yourself a favor and get a few replacement chains from a decent brand and have them on the shelf ready to go. The chains do take a beating. ... show more

  • EGO tools are the best
Style: 16" Chain Saw (No Battery/Charger)
I absolutely love EGO tools!! This is my first electric chainsaw and the thing is amazing. Chewed right through the tree I had to cut down with power to spare. Easy to use, easy to maintain, and easy on old arms. GREAT saw!

  • Great saw easy to use
Style: 16" Chain Saw (No Battery/Charger)
I just bought this chainsaw and used it today for the first time. It came dry, so I bought some EGO bar oil and I started to add oil using a little funnel. The oil started to pour slowly but immediately overwhelmed the small filling neck creating a mess on my work bench. This oil is like molasses, it is very sticky and thick and you need to be very careful to pour it extremely slow. I tossed the funnel and poured small amount at the time directly from the bottle. Also it is difficult to see how much oil is in the saw because the oil is very light in color and the window on the saw is white. I used a flash light and was able to gauge the level. When I tried to start it would not come on despite having a fully charged battery. I moved the safety bar to the run position and it started right away. I have used many chainsaws in the past and never had to start one with the safety off only...Be aware of that..Other than that it is a great saw for around the house.. ... show more

  • Good Quality Consumer Tool
Style: 16" Chain Saw (No Battery/Charger)
This is my first electric chainsaw, but my third EGO tool. I also have the 650 blower and the carbon fiber shaft weed eater; both are outstanding, so I really didn't need another battery. The 4 and 5 amp hour batteries are sufficient for my needs and I run out of desire BF I run out of battery. Having said that, I don't use it to cut up firewood and other than maybe campfire wood, I don't think it would be my choice. For one thing, this is gear driven and as such, has slower chain speed. Doesn't mean it can't do it, but you're going to need a few batteries and some time. I bought this saw BC at 73, I'm not going to do production work, but I do have property and need to remove an occasional dead tree or a large shrub. I buck them up and pull them to the burn pile w/ the tractor. I even did a one-handed overhead limb cut; something I would never attempt with my gas saw. So while this review might sound like I'm underwhelmed by the saw, that isn't the case. I think EGO's market is hi-end consumer products and it matches my expectations and then some. The batteries/chargers are amazing and the tools are first rate for the home owner. Is it a 'one saw' solution? Maybe, if your expectations are reasonable. I wish they shipped it with a bottle of chain oil though, bc you will need it and that's why I gave it 4 starts. Good luck! ... show more

  • Great chainsaw
Style: 14" Chain Saw (No Battery/Charger)
This chainsaw works great. I used it to cut up a large tree limb and it worked as well as any gas saw that I have used in the past. The Ego is a lot more user frindly and it is a lot more quite. Glad I don't need gas for it too. I have an Ego mower so they can share the same battery.

  • Cuts though Trees like Butter
Style: 14" Chain Saw (No Battery/Charger)
I received my chainsaw earlier than expected which I appreciate. I already had three EGO batteries since I have their leaf blower. This size is right to cut small trees into logs and large branches for kindling. I love how it is so easy to use in turning on the chainsaw. Just squeeze the trigger and push down the button simultaneously. The chain stayed tight after one hour of use and I still had plenty of battery charge left over. If cuts through the tree like butter. The power was just like a regular gas operated chainsaw. The battery I used was a 7.5 AH which made the chainsaw heavier, but I will use the 5.0 next time. This durability of the chainsaw will hold up as long as you follow the directions to keep it clean. I am going to buy another chain or two to change out the other for sharpening. I am going to a lot of cutting for the upcoming winter. ... show more

  • Ego Fan
Style: 14" Chain Saw (No Battery/Charger)
This is the 8th ego product I have purchased. I'm impressed how well the batteries last and well made. This chain saw is for my wife who likes the size and easy for her to handle compared to my bigger chain saws.
