  • Affordable Chainsaw That Meets All My Expectations
Style: 16-In.Chainsaw (NO BATTERY/CHARGER) / G1
After the latest storm brought down two small trees in my yard, I decided it was time to purchase a chainsaw. I decided on the Ego after seeing several positive reviews of it on YouTube. Another factor that influenced my decision was that I already own an EGO string trimmer and I have found it to be well made and works very well. Already having the trimmer, I could use the battery and charger for it with the chainsaw as well, saving a good amount of money. The chainsaw required very little setup - it was already put together when it arrived, all I had to do was add chain oil and it was ready to go. After using the chainsaw several times now I was surprised at first at how quiet it is - very little noise, and it is very powerful, It cut through the thickest part of the tree, about 10 inches in diameter in just a matter of seconds. Battery life is good, the picture shown of what I cut up used less than half the battery, and it only takes about 45 minutes to charge back up. To sum up, this chainsaw has met all my expectations as a first-time owner, and I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • Good product
Style: 14-In. Chainsaw (NO BATTERY/CHARGER)
I bought this for pruning and cutting down small trees. This saw doesn’t replace my big Husky gas saw for big cuts but was a pleasure to use and worked great on up to 5” diameter wood. Batteries last a long time.

  • Surprisingly good chainsaw
Style: 16-In.Chainsaw (NO BATTERY/CHARGER) / G1
I have to admit getting this saw on a whim. I didn't have high hopes for it. I was wrong. This is a superb saw. It is a *real* saw. It is not a toy saw. The 5 AH battery lasts as long as *I* do before *I* need a break (60 yo guy here). I was really surprised by this. I cut a cord and a half of firewood (pine) on a single charge --- I did not expect that. I was expecting to have to swap batteries frequently but a single battery got me through all that wood. Other benefits: (*) It's quiet compared to a gas saw. A chainsaw has to make some noise, but you'll immediately notice how much quieter this saw is than any gas powered saw. (*) it's clean. The only expendable it needs is bar and chain oil. No fooling around with messy and smelly two stroke gas/oil. If you don't want the inside of your SUV to smell like an oil refinery, then you want this saw. (*) When it's off, it's off. The engine isn't putt-putt-putting away. If you disconnect the battery (it's fast and simple), then the saw is truly inert. I have to admit that chainsaws in general terrify me (and I've got a scar on a knee to justify this), but this saw is incredibly easy to make safe. [And let's just say that the "emergency off" handle bar switch works exactly as intended; I fell down with the saw running, and before I could get my finger off the trigger, I had tripped the "off" switch with my other hand. Outstanding.] I have only used it on pine and fir; haven't tried any hardwoods. There are probably more powerful (gas) saws, but this saw is *not* underpowered. I'm not trying to win sawing contests, I want a saw that is "just right" and this one is. I have to drive out in the boonies from time to time, and sometimes trees come down ahead of me or (worse) behind me. This saw is going with me *everywhere* because it will be able to deal with any fallen tree that I'll encounter. ... show more

  • Cuts like butter
Style: 14-In. Chainsaw (NO BATTERY/CHARGER)
Bought this to replace my B&D 20v 10 in chainsaw. This is a night and day difference. Cut through like butter and was so satisfying. Done with first tree in less than 10 min. No loss of charge on battery.

  • Another good EGO tool. Not crazy about the oiler. Recommended
Style: 16-In.Chainsaw (NO BATTERY/CHARGER) / G1
I was a hold out for many years... it took a long time for me to make the transition to electric lawn tools. The energy density of LiPO batteries and the introduction of ethanol into gasoline (where I live) caused me to convert. Cleaning/rebuilding the fueling systems of my lawn tools EVERY YEAR was the breaking point. I did some research and bought an EGO lawnmower which put me into the EGO battery ecosystem. You see, the EGO batteries are insanely expensive (compared to other battery systems). If you get a 5Ah (or larger) battery in your collection, you can pretty much use it in any tool for a reasonable runtime. I'd always regarded chainsaws as being bad candidates for battery operation (though I've bought a couple electric pole saws). I've had a few electric chainsaws in the 14 - 18" bar range, and had mostly been happy with those. How would the EGO Power+ CS1600 56V Li-Ion Cordless 16" Brushless Chain Saw with a 5Ah battery work? When you receive the CS1600, there's not much to do. Everything is assembled... the chain is on the bar, and the bar is attached to the saw! Instead, you only have to adjust the chain tension and fill the oiler. The chain tensioner has a large dial control that's usable with gloves on. The oiler seems straightforward, but I had some issues. There's a level indicator (which is helpful), but the oil reservoir is filled from the side. Between that and the strainer basket, it's hard to know how much you've filled the thing, unless you secure the cap and turn it back over. In my case, I may have over-filled it a bit the first time - but I'm still not sure. The first time I used the chainsaw it slung about a capful of oil onto my clothes. It hasn't happened since, but it's worth watching out for. The operation of the saw is unremarkable. I found the safety switch to be a little unusual. Aside from that, there's nothing noteworthy about the saw's operation WHICH IS PHENOMENAL! The motor seems a little down on power compared to some of the 1800W corded units I have, but it doesn't seem to have power delivery "sags" or any other behavior that impedes cutting performance. As long as you plan your cuts and don't put yourself in positions where you're going to bind the chain or bar, you'll be fine. The balance of the saw seems pretty comfortable with the 5Ah battery, but it's worth noting that the parger and smaller batteries will give this unit different balance. I didn't try to run the battery down to empty, but the 5Ah battery lasted long enough that I feel like I could bounce between two 5Ah batteries (with one always charging on the fast charger) with zero downtime. As with all of my EGO reviews, I tend to like the devices, but I don't love the battery cost. Once you've taken the hit of getting a large battery, you're free to get ALL of the devices in the EGO universe. Aside from my minor gripes with the oiler configuration and safety switch, the chainsaw is a quality tool. Recommended ... show more
