  • Great chainsaw for the money.
Style: 18" (No Battery/Charger)
I really like the Ego chainsaw. If I had a 10 AH battery it would cut longer, but I only have a 4AH battery. No more worries about keeping a fuel operated chainsaw functioning. I'm selling all of my gas hand tools.

  • The convienience of battery power means more gets cut
Style: 18" (No Battery/Charger)
For me, this has been a huge quality of chainsaw-life upgrade when compared with my gas machine. So far, I've used it for pretty light cutting: some saplings and breaking down logs (maybe 12" - 13" in diameter). There's no doubt it lacks the strength of my gas chainsaw, but it handles those bigger logs very easily if you take your time. I already had a couple of batteries for an Ego lawnmower (also nice), so I got the kind that comes with tool-only. For me, the best part is the convenience. I don't have all that much to chainsaw, and so I used to have to worry about keeping 2-cycle gas around, letting it go bad, tuning a carb, etc. Because of that, I tended to let chainsaw tasks pile up until it was 'worth' bringing out the saw and tinkering with it. Now, all I have to do is slap in a battery, and 5 minutes later I'm done with whatever chore it is. As a bonus, it's pretty quiet! I love this. It means I actually use the tool I have, and more gets done around the house. It's a no-brainer if you already have the batteries, but I'd suggest it even if this is your first tool in the Ego system. ... show more

  • Solid performer
Style: 18" (No Battery/Charger)
I got this EGO Power+ CS1800 18-Inch 56-Volt Cordless Chain Saw to make use of a couple 5ah Ego batteries that only see winter use and help tame an acre wooded lot that has not been maintained in 2-3 years while easily measuring out 18"-19" firewood. Bottom line: In the last 3-4 months, I've cut numerous trees of up to 8" with with this machine, and have encountered no problems that weren't my mistakes or learning curve. This machine has generally been a joy to use. Spending much of my time at a desk, my body requests it be a tad lighter weight, but I have to consider the source on that one. ;) Notes: -Battery use appears to directly relate to the thickness of what you are cutting. Cutting anything under 2 inches, and you wonder if the battery is draining at all! With 2 batteries and the normal cycle of limb-fell-buck-cut-cleanup, I have yet to come close to needing a battery before it is charged. I could see battery capacity a possible limiter cutting much larger pieces, or if I had help with cleaning up, but I don't have to purchase, transport, or mix fuel, and much higher capacity batteries are available. -This is so much quieter than a gas chainsaw of any size! Volume is similar to an electric leaf blower or large electric string trimmer, so you can get away with one less piece of distracting protective gear. -Gas user note: The chain must be spun up at all times while in a work piece. With a gas saw, the rotational inertia of the motor and a clutch enable you to start and stop the chain to feather work while in the work piece. This Ego is direct drive, so if the chain is not spun up, the motor is not spun up, so there is no inertia to help start the chain if it is held or bound. -Gas user note: The chain break must be off to start the chainsaw. -The chain tightening system is quite helpful, but occassionaly needs to be "reset". Having worked with chainsaws with the 2-nut bar holder, it is a joy to simply reach down and twist to restore chain tension. Once the chain tensioner hits its stopping point, back it out a few turns until you can move the bar by pulling on it, then retighten the tensioning knob. When working with any new chain, expect more frequent tightening. -Some have complained of rapid bar oil consumption. This seemed to be the case for the first half-resovoir of use, but especially the last quarter of the resovoir seemed to last quite a while. -Amazon has a 4-pack of spare chains for less than Ego charges for 1 spare chain. ... show more

In the world of battery powered tools, you're really committing to the batteries. It's like printers - they're cheap but you'll have to shell out the $$$ for the endless supply of toner. However, most (not all) of the EGO tools AREN'T cheap, they're well made and perform as expected. With the exception of Ego's snowblowers, we're all in with the landscaping tools. This 18" chainsaw really knocks out the work and won't disappoint. This chainsaw cuts through trees like butter. Our larger 7.5 Ah Ego batteries hold a charge for a very long time during constant cutting work. Assembly, disassembly and maintenance are straightforward with no surprises if you read the manual and follow instructions. The reason that we bought the 18" chainsaw over Ego's shorter versions is that the shorter blades fit on this tool and not vice versa. In other words, the 18" blade won't fit on Ego's 16" chainsaw, but the 16" blade fits on this chainsaw. We like the flexibility of blade length that this 18"chainsaw provides to be able to do close work without having to have yet another tool. The safety features are necessary and work as they should. Please read the manual to learn some basic handling of a chainsaw. These tools are truly dangerous when not handled properly. We've lost count on how many times amateurs have been injured when not handling a chainsaw properly. The last incident with a different brand sent a worker to the hospital for 20 stitches to keep his arm intact. ... show more

  • I’m still shocked at how well this chainsaw performed
Style: 18" (No Battery/Charger)
I rarely write reviews but I had to make a few minutes to do one in the Ego Power + 18” Chain saw. I have the blower and the weed eater and I have to admit they are the best blower and weed eater I have ever had and I saw thy made a chain saw and saw the reviews and put it in my cart where it sat for about 2 months. I was with one of my friends and we were talking about clearing trees and he said he has the 16” version and said it was fantastic. I went ahead and checked out and got it two days later. All I can say is wow I just never thought an electric chainsaw was callable of cutting down anything other than small trees , I was wrong. I have the 5amp battery and cut down around 10 to 15 trees ranging from 6” to 18” and there was still power left! Also it did it with ease! No struggling to get it started, mixing fuel or the noise! Only thing is the chain came off after some use but that was because it was new and I hadn’t tightened it as I had been using it and binded in a tree I cut wrong. Don’t hesitate like I did just buy it! ... show more
