This heater is built solid. The cord is attached well and looks very durable. I will be putting this on a metal under a metal bucket, as it would probably be a major fire hazard on the ground around wood shavings, etc. Not for use with any type of plastic containers, they will melt. These things are key to maintaining drinkable water in colder climates.

I ordered this to keep my chicken water from freezing during the winter, we do not get much freezing weather here but we do have a few days to several weeks of below freezing temps at night, so I need this to make sure the chickens have fresh water as soon as they come down from the roost as I do not get to the coop to check on them until about noon. I tested this by plugging it up and putting it in our spare fridge to make sure the plate got warm and it does.

Last year I used my 5 gallon bucket with water nipples installed resting on a heating pad designed to keep baby chicks warm that had a constant temp setting on it with semi good success. It kept the water from freezing in the bucket for the chickens to drink (along with insulation wrapped around the bucket) but the heater did not have an auto on/off feature like this one does. It caused a problem on those days where the temps were above freezing over heating the water which is not that good for birds acclimatized to the cold. This unit fits nicely over the round Metal stand I have to elevate the bucket for the right height for the birds to drink from and will turn on and off when needed which will also save money not running 24/7 outside when not needed. Only time will tell how well it will work in actual freezing time frames (still warm now) but if it works as advertised then this should be the perfect solution for having critically needed drinking water available for the birds in the dry cold air when they drink as much as in the hot summer months. It has a durable all metal construction, long cord, thin design, and only uses 110 watts of energy when energized.

No one likes replacing / thawing waters in the winter. This unit has an internal thermostat to turn itself on and off. I did put it on some pavers to keep it off the ground. My last one of these rusted within a year when it touched the wet sand in the run. Hopefully this one will last more than 2 years but even if it doesn’t, still cheap enough to trash and buy another one. Fits well under my 5 gallon waterer and the splashed water still won’t touch it. My 1 gallon waterers would all splashed water to sit on the sides.

This poultry warmer is a bit smaller than others I've purchased, which intially I questioned. I have decided it's a good option, however. Being a bit smaller means that the birds won't be stepping on it, and it will stay cleaner. It has decent weight too, so it will stay in place. The biggest plus is that it's a sealed unit so snow and water overflow won't get in and ruin it. I would recommend.

Threw a pot in the freezer filled with water. This turned on and defrosted it, then shut off. Dogs didnt mind how warm the water was. Will make a lil lean to for it so its covered. Almost wondering if i could find a solar charger that would work long enough for this so i dont need to worry about it shorting out or anything...
