This set is made from highly durable GCr15 bearing steel, and cuts through a wide range of metal pipes and rods including carbon steel, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper and much more. All the cutting teeth are professionally CNC (computer numerical controlled) machined and heat treated to Rockwell hardness 60 HRC for providing aggressive, clean and precise threading results. The taps and dies also feature a tapered design, allowing an easier start and preventing over threading. I bought this set mainly for convenience as i often find the need to chase threads, and untill recently, only possessed an SAE set. It's perfect for that! I had a real bad bolt break in a timing cover. Needed to drill out the old bolt and retap. This did the trick however the starter threads on the bit got damaged going thru the rough hole. It worked this time however not sure if that bit is still good enough to do another. Either way for the price it was worth it even if that one bit doesnt work again. Would buy again as a shade tree mechanic...not as a professional. ... show more

First of all, these are absolutely not premium as the product listing says. Premium taps cost as much or more than this kit for just one tap or die. That being said, these don’t seem to be super bad quality, and if you just need an assortment for the occasional hobbyist use then go for it, you get a lot of sizes for the price. I’m just going to use them for the occasional job in plastic, brass, or aluminum. I wouldn’t expect them to last tapping stainless steel or anything. I will mention that the little thread gauge is pretty much useless on the finer ones, the grooves weren’t cut deep enough. However I didn’t buy the set for that little tool. The die holder and tap holder aren’t anything to write home about, but should hold up to light use. ... show more
