My kids (ages 4.5 and 6) love this microscope! It is the perfect size for them and they love looking at at familiar and new things up close. It comes with a lot of different slides from flowers to fruits/vegetables to the human anatomy and so much more! Their favorite slide are the gemstones! The microscope is very durable and high quality and the eye piece and knobs are the perfect size for their little hands. I like that a storage drawer is attached so they can keep all of their slides in there when they aren’t using it. A fact book is included that has more information about each slide. Since my kids are still learning virtually, I’m so glad that they can learn about science using this cool microscope! The media could not be loaded. Could be for children a tad younger. Great quality for the microscope. Love the ease of storing the slide discs. Won’t get lost as you can keep them with the microscope instead inside of the box or a bag. Nicely laid out with a solid fun facts“field guide” book on each slide. Adult will likely have to help with reading the field guide book as I believe it is above a 5years old level. Slide will be easy to wipe clean and are very realistic with an awesome range of topics. quality of discs is decent yet I found some “peeling” and a few scratches. My kids love this microscope! It comes with 60 real pics of everything from flowers to gems to bugs and it comes with a guide that gives detailed explanations on each image. It has a built in LED light also (you need 3 AAA batteries) and I love that there is a storage compartment for the discs so my kids can’t lose them. This is good and the best part is it will grow with kids. My baby is 4 and she loves it. However, the slides could be more interesting. Instead of putting the skin of a snake you could out the actual snake. Just more interesting sights or at least a mixture. But as an activity u can pick plants outside or anything and get a closer look on those. Much more interesting. Dead bugs, flowers, your finger etc. ... show more

For toddlers, yes, but this is not for kids over 5 in my opinion. It feels and looks cheap. The pics on the slides are the same, whether you're holding them in your hand looking at them, or under the microscope. There is no magnifying going on. You're just looking at a boring image over a light. I'm returning it and buying my 6 yr old an actual microscope for kids/teens, because there's nothing to this one. ... show more

I cannot recommend this item for a 5-year-old, even though it's for ages 5 and up. The plastic connecting point between the lens piece which goes up and down, and the rest of the structure is too flimsy. It broke within an hour of our 5-year-old using it. I am so disappointed.
