There’s a distinct lack of decent instructions but they’re really easy to fit. The arms once folded out feel solid and strong. I was concerned that the tightening bolt pushes the bracket all the way closed on both sides but the shake test moved the bar and car so they’re sturdy enough. Have yet to carry the kayaks on them but will report back when we have.

This is great value for the money to get 4 racks in a box. The instructions are not helpful and I just looked up a video for installation. The holes for the long screws were not all aligned and some not punched out but I was able to fix the problem with out too much trouble.

I have reached out to the manufacturer twice, I am missing two Nylock Nuts. I will add padding to them as well. I don't like the raw metal on my cross bars. Have not hauled kayaks. I am sure these will be great for the job.

Easy to install. Looks great at my SUV. BUT: I live in PR. Very close to the beach. I considered buying the racks because they said it wouldn't corrode. I bought them in 2022 and yes, they are moldy. Definitely, aluminum is needed for an island.

I struggled to get the racks tight enough. And although they are convenient to collapse when not carrying the kayak, they were a challenge to load the kayak, bcz the shorter part of the J kept folding under the kayak while trying to load the kayak on top of a taller SUV. It was also difficult to get the boat to sit up on its side and secure adequately. Next time will try using step stools to reach the roof of the car more easily.

I have struggled with this rack a lot. The kayaks kept shifting because I couldn’t get them strapped well enough. I actually crushed the plastic kayak because it kept moving and I kept tightening the straps. I use ratcheting straps to hold down the kayak and I use one of the straps that came with these racks to keep it from sliding backwards. I like that the rack folds so it clears my garage, but the ability to lock it in position when in use would be ideal. It is also very wide for the low profile of the sit-on-top kayaks so they sit kinda funny and don’t have great contact with the rack, but after a lot of fussing I was able to finally secure things.

I’ll be returning this product! I used it once, installed it for my paddle board/kayak. I thought the foldable option would be nice because I could just leave them on…NOPE! My husband and I went to load the boat and the small piece folded in as we were getting it in position, pinched my fingers something awful! Finally got the boat in place strapped it in and it didn’t feel particularly safe. I strapped it around the side rails for some added safety and that seemed to do it. Got in the car to go get my sister’s boat and half a mile down the road doing 35 mph it came off and dragged alongside my car. I called my brother in law to help since he has experience using j-racks and this was my first experience, he took 1 look and said these aren’t tall enough to support the width of your boat. So I’m humble enough to admit there is some user error in there but even before the boat was in place I wasn’t super comfortable with how wiggly the racks are on the cross rails. Proceed with caution!
