All right here's the bottom line it's a electric hot water tank. If you're running it in a standard shower you will get exactly 2 minutes of hot water. The first minute will be blistering hot the second minute will be normal and then you've got about an additional 20 seconds of warmish water before it gets cold. Can you take a shower yes keep it under 2 minutes and you're good to go. The only other advice I can give you it has to be on its separate circuit. Installed last night, and so far it's great. Has little feet so it sits off the floor about 1/2" which was nice since my Bosch unit would sit flat. Comes with cord attached, mounting bracket that I didn't need, and 3/4" male NPT fittings. Install took about 45 minutes all in and that included shutting off water to the house and replacing the compression valve at the wall. Heats hot and fast so it's a win so far. ... show more

I just received the 6 gal Ecosmart, have not installed it yet and may not because of some issues I found upon opening the box. 1. Despite the description stating that it plugs into a 120V outlet, there actually is no plug provided. It just has a 40" length of wire hanging out that I assume is intended to be hard-wired. I will look into attaching a longer cord with a plug rather than having an electrician install a junction box. 2. I knew I was pushing the limits of space in my installation with this unit, but it is worse than I expected because the overall height does not account for either the threaded pipe fittings on top or the provided T&P valve when installed. Instead of 20" high as listed, that valve takes up an overall height of 25" vertically. Of course the fittings I attach to it will take up room, but using 90 deg elbows, the limiting height is actually the T&P valve. To simplify matters, I think I will exchange it for the 4 gal model after confirming its dimensions and that it can, indeed, be plugged in. ... show more

Easy to install. Supplies immediate hot water. I installed it under the kitchen sink and it works perfectly. But there is a "learning curve" with using less hot water = because 6 gallons goes fast if you aren't efficient with your usage. If not, the 6 gallons will go fast. But it heats up fast. I chose the EcoSmart 6 gallon water heater over many others mainly for its dimensions…and it just fit in my tiny boiler room. As replacing a leaky 7-year-old 4 gallon and wanting to upsize, my cramped wall-hanging location has plenty of vertical space but girth is an issue, and this unit's slender measurements made the 6 gallon upgrade possible. My only installation caveat was upsizing water connections because the Eco Mini 6's connections are 3/4" MIP instead of my previous 4 gallon mini-tank's 1/2". Simple enough, but I found no mention of this detail in the otherwise good EcoSmart documentation. I like the separate Power and Heater indicators. Recovery time is better than expected. 6 gal. is probably the limit for wall-hanging weight (80 lb.), but OK. My town's hard water wreaks havoc with all my plumbing and was the ultimate reason for the previous 4 gallon mini's demise, so we'll see how long the EcoSmart lasts… …Six gallons for showers - what a luxury! ... show more

Purchased water heater 2.5 years ago and it is now leaking from somewhere inside the case. I have emailed Ecosmart several times since it has a 6 year warranty for leaks and still have not received anything back. Poor customer service.
