  • Was worth it even at the original higher price

I've been running this pump 24/7 under a fake rock next to my pond for just over a year. Yesterday I noticed that the aeration had stopped, and the sound coming from the rock was louder than normal. Upon further inspection, I found that it was barely generating any pressure. Without resistance, it was still moving air, but there was not enough pressure to drive the aerator. I took it apart to find about a half-cup of fine dust and sand inside the center of the pump (where the motor resides). The piston shaft that is supposed to move up and down between the stators was nearly seized in place. I had to work it quite hard to get it out completely - at which point I'd found the teflon/graphite surfaces so badly scored by the sand, that I immediately ordered a replacement. I had little hope of getting it to work again. However, with a little bit of steel wool and WD40, I managed to get the parts to once again slide evenly. The diaphragms on either side of the piston were dusty, but not deformed or damaged in any way. I thoroughly cleaned all the remaining items, and reassembled it. To my surprise, the aerator came alive with the same pressure/flow I would expect from a new pump. I was quite surprised with how simple the teardown and reassembly was, and it has boosted my confidence in the design and construction. I will keep the new one as a spare, as I suspect the "slop" introduced in the wear surfaces probably will diminish the remaining life. The intake filter (nothing more than a fine sponge) was saturated with sand and dust. Clearly, this was operator error, and I have now redesigned how the pump is mounted under the fake rock. Hopefully that will reduce the amount of debris that finds its way into the pump. Overall, a strong recommendation. ... show more

Didn't receive the air converter with the pump. Made connecting it very difficult. It is my fault for not building the system for more than 1.5 years after i bought it though : D

  • This thing is ripping! Great airflow!
Size: 793 GPH Style: Fixed Flow
I'm using this for about 2200 gallons. My fish are hibernating in extremely well oxygenated water. I ended up just using 4 instead of 6 because it pushes so much air that my 3.5ft pond is getting bubbles everywhere. I had a different kind that needed 6 and still had still water areas. This thing really pushes some air through. It's a slight hum, but this is an outdoor pond and I hardly can hear it. I have to walk to the pump house to make sure it is on. And it's much more affordable that the other brand we had. Our old one had a know that turned it all the way up or down and we had to have it on max all the time, so for us, this one not having that feature is actually nice because you can't accidentally bump it and turn the air flow down. I highly recommend this for fellow fish pond owners. My fish are all happily hiding in their rocks instead of trying to hibernate near the diffusers. Huge yay! ... show more

  • Two issues
Size: 3566 GPH Style: Fixed Flow
The product is very powerful, it works very, very, well. There are two issues, one it runs so hot the metal air hose distributor with all of the rubber hoses attached to it gets so hot you can burn your hand. Not the unit itself, the metal splitter that attaches with the hose. The second issue is that the hose needs to be clamped to the unit and to the metal distributor/splitter, otherwise the air blast is so strong it just keeps coming off at the splitter end. I bought plumbing clamps at the local hardware store and now having attached them the hose does not come off. I guess the final issue is that it is not waterproof. I have it outdoors for a 750 gallon fish pond (It is way to much pump for this size pond, but that is what I wanted) and I have to put something over it to keep the rain off but not completely over it because it runs so hot. I actually have the splitter up off the ground on a metal flowerpot turned sideways because I am concerned about vegetation catching fire. I am going to get a cement paver to put everything on so that won't be an issue. I definitely like the pump, it seems very well made and is a beast pushing out air, you just have to know a couple of things before you buy it. ... show more

Size: 793 GPH Style: Fixed Flow
************************************************UPDATE**************************************************** I decided not to go through the hassle of returning this pump and give it another chance and ended up bumping it to four stars. I realize that when it conked on me we were having severely hot weather. It's been running just fine now and puts out a good amount of air, I haven't check the liter flow lately but it seems to be working fine. The key to this pump is to shut it down on extremely hot days and it will probably work fine for years. It's a good buy for the money. I was all set to write a rave review for this air pump! It came with a very nice heavy duty manifold (which was a pleasant surprise) and appears to be well made...and the price is very reasonable. When I first plugged it in, I was blown away at the amount of air it produced and when I put the liter flow gauge to it...I was even more impressed! I mounted it to a nice piece of wood then found the ideal place to keep it near my pond, I plugged in 2- 5" stones and all was great! Then about an hour later, I was walking by the pond and I noticed one of the stones wasn't producing any air and the other was very slow. So I reached down to pick up the pump and it was hot enough to burn my hand. I unplugged and took it in the house and let it cool down. After about 30 minutes I plugged it back in and ran the flow meter and it was running about 19 LPM (about half of what I had before) I checked the intake to make sure nothing had gotten in there but it was clean. I have it running in my pond again at the moment but I'm sending this thing back. If it conks after only an hour it will leave me high and dry somewhere down the road. Apparently this type pump has a poor track record of overheating so...I'm going to have to find something different. I loved this pump...for about an hour...so sad! ... show more

  • Fully pleased after finding trick to make it much quieter
Size: 793 GPH Style: Fixed Flow
tl; dr: pleased with pump, came with metal 6-valve air tap, only 15 watts when connected to air stones, *much* quieter with long hose connected to air *inlet* to move sound away from pump. We just set up a small garden pond and after a week or so green moss started forming on the rocks and the water got cloudy. Aeration was a common cure so we ordered this pump, some tubing, and air stones. I had never used an air pump or done a pond, and was concerned this would be noisy, but didn't want to get a smaller type of pump because I wanted a lot of aeration and didn't want to do regular diaphragm replacement as the smaller ones require. Plugging it in for the first time inside, with nothing connected, my heart sunk as it was very loud. It also measured around 25 watts on my Kill-A-Watt meter, even though it's advertised as only 18 watts. It turns out that this is the wrong way to evaluate it. With hoses and air stones connected it only uses 15 watts, and is quieter. I placed it outside next to the pond and it filled it with bubbles, and caused lots of circulation as well. It came with a nice metal 6-valve tap, and I was only using three of them (two air stones, and one bare air tube with its valve turned down). The pump was still somewhat noisy though. I noticed the air inlet and read about the noise coming from that, so I connected it to an old garden hose (no water in it) so that it drew air from the end of the hose that was far away, and the pump became almost silent! I was pleased that this last nagging issue had been solved, and my concern over the noise put to rest. Unfortunately it didn't make any change in our pond's green moss growth situation, but definitely not because the pump has any shortcomings. This is one reason I got a powerful pump, so that if the moss didn't reduce, I would know for sure that it wasn't due to a lack of aeration. We only ran this for a few weeks (24 hours a day in Texas summer) so I can't say much about its long-term reliability. Zero problems during our use of it. ... show more

Size: 793 GPH Style: Fixed Flow
misleading information, written on box it states: output is 793 gph, psi 2.9, current:0.25A, imput 120V. model:728450 that means comsumption in watts is 30 not the 18 they are stating on their descrption. If you are energy concious this matters. BEWARE. One year latter, I just checked the wattage consumption and it is around 18 watts. I read in one of the reviews that this is because the real output is not 793 GPH but about 350 GPH. If that is the case, it works well for me. But the information is not correct from the manufacturer on the GPH output. ... show more

  • Hit or miss.
Size: 793 GPH Style: Fixed Flow
I have a 15k gallon koi pond which need aeration in the winter. The pond is 4ft deep and the top half is using frozen solid. I've tried a couple of air pump from Aquascape, but the output was very very weak and any stone deeper than 2ft just gets a trickle of air. And none, NONE, last an entire year. I've ran this Ecoplus now for a week. At only 18W, electricity use is a tiny bit higher than the Aquascape, but still very low. It's a bit louder, but since I have it outdoors, I don't care. It's not loud enough to be heard from the inside. I use a large air stone sold Hydrofarm ASCL Large Active Aqua Air Stone Cylinder placed at 3 ft depth, on a 20ft air line. It's the only air stone I have on this pump. It works fantastic. Bubble output is impressive. Almost like boiling water. I have no doubt I could have placed the stone at 4-5 ft and have no problem. So far I like it. Not sure how long it last, but I'm just hoping to get through the winter. FYI - the pump is solid and heavy, about 2 lbs I'd say. It comes with one outlet that is 1/2 inch. A hose is included from this outlet to the distributer valve. The valve is of good quality. Chrome plated steel. 6 outlets with individual shut offs. Each of these 6 outlets takes the typical 1/4 inch aquarium tubing. Just an update: This pump has ran continuously for about a year now. No problems. From -15'F to 90'F and it keeps going. That's way more than I expected. Update: The original pump works great. I bought a 1030 GPH pump. It was doing pretty light duty but died in 10 minutes. Since Amazon doesn't allow me to review the 2 pumps separately, I'll lower the overall rating from 5 to 3 stars. ... show more

  • Noise level !
Size: 793 GPH Style: Fixed Flow
It’s been noted that this unit is too loud……it’s also been suggested that this changes with time and it’s true ! After about 40 hours this unit has quieted down quite a bit ! I use it on my OLM3 laser set up and it works very well ! For the price you can’t beat it !

  • Not a good aquarium pump
Size: 793 GPH Style: Fixed Flow
I wanted to like this pump but it just didn’t cut it in any particular area for me. Considering it’s supposed to be commercial grade, I thought it would be powerful and relatively quiet if only using it for minimal airflow. I was wrong. I used this to run air to three lines I setup in a 75 gallon aquarium, with each line going to two small air stones. The airflow was very hard to balance, and I found it sending almost zero airflow to one line unless I turned the valve all the way open. Not to mention, even with the airflow turned down, this thing was incredibly loud/noisy. I had a smaller pump running a 3 foot bubble wall and two air stone ornaments that was quieter than this and far more efficient. Noise: Loud! Even when valves were turned down. Airflow: Poor. It was very unevenly distributed and barely working for one line, when only using three lines (it has six available). Performance: Runs very hot! Not only was it blowing hot air into my tank and driving the temp up (problems for fish), but it vibrates so much that it moves along any surface you put it on. Even with a vibrate pad underneath. It still moved! This is on low airflow settings to three lines! I honestly expected a lot more from this and immediately returned it. I ended up purchasing the tetra whisper 60-100 gallon pump and what a difference!!! Not only was it just 20 bucks, but it was super quiet with much better airflow. All three of my lines were getting good airflow with a three way valve. I’d say consider that pump if you’re just looking to air an aquarium in that size. Steer clear of this. ... show more

  • Excellent value, kinda noisy, pumps lots of air
Size: 1300 GPH Style: Fixed Flow
This air pump replaced a more expensive diaphragm pump that only made a thin veil of bubbles from 4 2" airstones in my koi pond. The EcoPlus makes a huge difference, vigorous bubbling in a diameter of about a foot, lifts an impressive column of water from the pond's bottom. This is a 1000+ gallon pond where the goal is to have 7+ ppm on a Milwaukee dissolved oxygen meter. Left alone with only the filter's 600 gpm, in hot weather the pond sits at 5 ppm and the fish are stressed. Each of two 1000 gpm water pumps flooming the surface adds about 1 ppm, as does this pump, so now the pond is usually about 8 ppm and the fish are very happy. The pump comes with a little manifold to attach 8 airstones and I'm using 4 2" stones from United Aquatics, have ordered more stones and tubing and will see what it does. If quietness is one of your criteria you might want to keep looking. It is noisy relative to the old diaphragm pump which was loud. If using it inside the pump might need to sit in the basement with a long hose to the aquarium. In our application, it sits under a heavy fiberglass faux rock that dampens the noise some, and sitting on a foam cushion the size of the fake rock's underside helps reduce noise to tolerable levels. Most of the noise seems to come from the air intake, so putting a hose on the intake might muffle it some. Also, this 80W pump might be more than we need so one of the smaller models might be enough. ... show more
