  • Legit product. I stopped using my Cadet.
Color: 400W-D
This does keep my 10'x12' bedroom a consistent temperature. I installed in the middle of December, where average temp for the month was 44ºF. It took a couple of days to get the room to 69º, but it got there and maintains it. I replaced the included analog thermostat with a programmable digital thermostat. You need an external thermostat (whether analog or digital) to control the power to the heater since it doesn't have one built in; it is on/off only. Neat to see that they now offer bluetooth control. As others have said, the off-gas is intense for a couple of weeks or so, but it has not ever fully gone away from me, just reduced or intermittent. Sometimes I get a whiff when I walk in the room and sometimes I don't. It's been off and fully unplugged for the summer months and I can still smell it. I like how this unit's heat reflector is designed - as a foil covered insulation that goes on the wall side. The heat guard (which goes on the room side of the heater) does still get pretty warm to the touch. I can't keep my hands on it. I was nervous that the heat guard would stick out too far, but I hardly notice it - even though it is on the wall right where you start to have little space to get to the narrow gap between bed and wall. So far, I've only even bumped it once while vacuuming. You do need to strategize your placement - especially if aiming for studs - with where your nearest outlet is. I like that they don't put a logo sticker on the exterior of the unit. I also bought a knock off brand in a smaller size for a smaller room. (It has an annoying logo sticker on the heat guard). They had photocopied the instruction manual, but didn't include all the pages. The other brand also has foil on the back side of the heat guard, which EconoHome does not do for safety reasons (to not overheat the unit). It does reduce the temperature of the heat guard, though. My heating bill was almost the exact same as the year prior when I compare month-to-month. So, on the surface it seems I didn't reduce my bill, but that's only because I didn't used to keep my rooms at an actual comfortable level and not for 24 hrs. I did reduce the heat when I'm away with my digital programming, but I didn't experiment with significant temperature changes, figuring it would end up taking the same amount of energy to reheat given the amount of time it takes since there's nothing rapid about this unit. I initially tried this in my living room, but it's too small to maintain that room size (which is what I figured by the specs). I wish EconoHome offered a 600W with heat shields. I don't really want a bare one in my living room and I don't want to use two 400's instead. ... show more

  • Safe heater
Color: 400W-D
It was a little tricky to install alone. A second set of hands would have been good. This heater does work to maintain a warm bathroom. It does not keep up with below freezing nights. The temperature will be below the 86 degrees itbis set for. However, it did maintain a comfortable setting with no risk of the pipes freezing ... show more

  • Excellent heater for a small room, doesn't take up floor space, is safe to the touch.
Color: 400W-D
I installed this heater in a newly partitioned room I built on a slab portion of our house, which was not readily accessible to the existing hot water baseboard heat system. The installation was relatively easy, although the mounting system with the Heat Guard is a bit clunky, and required using some hand tools not indicated on the directions. The description, as well as the installation instructions, both call out a minor odor of offgassing when the heater is first turned on, but this smell seemed to last for nearly a week. ... show more

  • Good buy, easy install works well
Color: 400W-D
Great for taking the edge off of a small room. I installed in a medium sized master bathroom that didn’t have heat, we didn’t like leaving the door open to heat and we often times forgot leaving a chilly toilet in the morning. :( It doesn’t make the room really hot but makes it comfortable and protects the plumbing in the wall as well. I think this is the perfect application as opposed to a larger room. It was easy to install (don’t even think it took me 30 mins) and works well with the timer. We also got the heat guard because we have a 3 year old but probably didn’t need it as the main unit doesn’t seem terribly hot. But better safe than sorry and it is still low profile. As mentioned in other reviews it does have a smell when new but it went away after a bit. My wife didn’t like it so I probably should have run it in the basement or garage for a few weeks first, but it’s gone now. Hopefully it’s durable too as it was a little pricey but if it is definitely worth it. The foil behind is a nice add, I thought it was going to be wavy at first but once it heated up it laid down nice and looks good. ... show more

  • I'm surprised to see all the negative reviews
Color: 400W-D
I'm a bit surprised to see all the negative reviews. I purchased this to place in a west facing room. We have baseboard radiator heat, and certain areas in the house can be colder than others. The room is also my grandson's bedroom when he is with us. Yes, there was outgassing from the unit at first, but I've used oil filled units and others and ALL of them, including the first few times our baseboards heat up, outgas. We've had the unit for a year now, and I honestly do not remember when the odor went away (and I am very sensitive to odors), but it was nothing I was concerned with. Since this is my grandson's bedroom, we mounted it about 4ft up on the wall so he couldn't touch it (he's just turning 3). We do have the cover plate, but didn't want to take a chance. I have a separate thermometer in the room. It is currently reading 70 degrees, the house is set at 69, and the outside temperature as I type is 36 with wind chill feeling 29. We have west prevailing winds. I came back to actually look at buying another one of these for a different room, and again was surprised at all the negative comments, so just wanted to add I'm more than pleased with this. ... show more

  • Good solution for a chilly room.
Color: 400W-D
I installed this heater in a small bedroom so that I could close the door for privacy without worrying about blocking off the heat from the main part of the house. Installation was not difficult (although I have wood wall panelling which made it easier). The heater remains on all the time. It is silent with no disturbing lights or glow. The heat from it is a gentle emanation into the room which works very well to keep the room comfortable without adding any draft or noise. It appears to be solidly made and well-designed to be unobtrusive and effective. I'm considering ordering another for a different room. ... show more
