Be careful to read the description, I thought I was getting a fantastic deal until it arrived and was refurbished. Now it was refurbished very well and close to new in all respects, to include new parts, but used is used. It is very light and easy to use and switch out attachments. Unloading the dirt is easy as well. It does a decent job as a regular Dyson vacuum in most respects, but you can't match the overall ability of a regular vacuum to handle and clean every type of rug. This works great on hardwood, but will not work on a shag carpet. For the other carpets it was just fine and you can always go to the higher power mode if you want, but your battery life gets reduced to about 10 minutes if you do that. It is very light and easy to handle. Recharging can be done on the charging station but you have to find a place near an outlet to hang a vacuum and that probably will not be easy unless you like people seeing a vacuum on your wall. Call it "domestic art" I suppose. We hand ours out of sight and just charge it on the counter as needed at night. As a vacuum compared to a plug in - it would get 4 starts - but since it gets used more often than the plug in because it is easy to operate and less of a pain, it gets 5 stars. Cost plays a big factor with these. Dyson has numerous models and V models - so be sure to pay attention to what you are paying for. The V8 is not the most elite model, but I am not sure why you would need anything more. It has and does it all. And yes we have a dog and would recommend this for pet owners.

I bought this vacuum cleaner as a general purpose cleaning tool to be used in my apartment and in my car. Being compact, lightweight and battery operated, I didn't expect it to be exceptional even though it's relatively expensive. However I am mildly surprised at how powerful it is. It serves well for all general purpose vacuum cleaning. The unit comes with these accessories - 1. a direct drive cleaner head for carpets 2. a mini motorized tool for upholstery 3. a crevice tool 4. a combination tool (essentially a crevice tool with a brush) 5. a mini soft dusting brush 6. an up top adapter that helps clean high-up areas 7. an extension wand 8. a docking station All the tools serve their purpose sufficiently well and carry the over all iron/sprayed nickel/purple color scheme. I had an upright vacuum cleaner before and even a small cleaning task meant I found myself spending more time unwinding and winding the cord rather than the cleaning itself. However, with this vacuum cleaner being compact and cordless, it comes really handy and quick cleaning doesn't take more than a couple of minutes. Without the cord, it's also convenient to use in the car. The downside to being battery operated is, well, the battery itself. In regular power mode, it lasts anywhere between 20 to 40 minutes depending on the tool being used. It has a MAX power mode for extra powerful suction and it drains a completely charged battery in about 6 minutes. For my cleaning habits, the battery lasts long enough for me to clean one room, including the carpet. Then, it needs to be charged before I can clean another room, which takes anywhere between 3 to 4 hours. To summarize, this is a good, convenient vacuum cleaner for general purpose cleaning if you don't mind the price.

What's not to love. I have had the dyson ball vaccume for many years and never been disappointed but I have arthritis in my wrists and hands and was looking for a lighter more maneuverable machine. Works great! First day i had it i used it so mich i wore a blister on my finger! Super easy to empty, just don't overfill! Like ALL DYSON products it is high quality and made to last and last!

my unit when I bought this came in not holding charge but for a minute or 2 after charging it like instructed overnight and the light indicators properly stating full.... I did not know it was refurbished, I understood "renewed" as "the manufacturer did a re release with improvements on this model of the V8" as I know that there are consumer laws that clearly cover refurbished items needing to use branding that clearly state they are refurbished... long story short the fact it is refurbished is abstracted, they put a link on the page that takes you to another page and it is in the fine print of that page that renewed = refurbished. this also comes with a 6 month warranty. I work and have worked in IT and breakfix and I can tell you that when you only get a 6 month warranty on a refurbished item it is because someone crunched the numbers from data collected and that is the longest period before issues arise that they are willing to cover. Heating issues from improper battery discharge being a leading cause of this sort of thing coming up after 6 months and my unit ran only for 2 minutes and it ran hot on normal mode. I returned it and bought a new one from dyson directly and have a 2 year warranty with it for about 80$ more but it also came with a bundle of extra head attachments and I got the model with the tile head so really you pay a little more for a lot more. just wanted to leave a fair warning about this as I had to wait for about 2 and a half weeks to get my money back as its a third party vendor and I had no vacuum between that time.. I did get the refund though but I called amazon support multiple times to get the vendor to acknowledge the return after it arrived with them and amazon pushed the return through themselves in the end. btw, I absolutly love my *new* dyson, it worked flawless and the units from dyson use the original batteries giving you 45 minutes and not 30.

Where do I start... this thing has been excellent. Back to the basics, the suction on carpet and hard floors for this little vacuum is amazing. It found stuff that my little Roborock S5 could never find in carpet. It’s fairly quiet until you put it it max mode. The battery seems to last me much longer than I anticipated, I had a feeling when I purchased this that the advertised 40 minutes on regular suction and 6 minutes on max mode wasn’t going to be enough. I was wrong. I never found a need to use max suction mode on carpet and on hard floors, only time I used max mode was in the car. It hasn’t died early on me yet. I do have some gripes though. when turning on max suction mode on carpet, the cleaner head turns into a suction cup on to the carpet and is very hard to move. It doesn’t work at all on my thick pile rug, so I wish it had some sort of switch to open up the airflow a little bit more like the Dyson v10. I also wish it came with soft roller that the v8 absolute has, and I don’t think there’s any way I would pay $100 for a spinning brush accessory for the v8, which brings me to my next point. This vacuum is no bargain, Dyson is not a value brand at all, the $300 that this thing retails for will not be worth it to the majority of people. I bought it because I saw that the used ones were on sale, and I hate rolling an extension cord out to my car for vacuuming. If you want a VERY convenient, easy to use vacuum, there are many options out there, and I believe this is the best one you can buy, IF you can get it without paying full retail or if you buy it used.

I had purchased this unit because I'm disabled and needed something that I felt was light...this product is a powerhouse. I use it to keep house clean in between cleanings from a service....it does everything it claims....comes with a great variety of attachments. The only cons for me are the charge time which runs little over 4 hrs..and how long charge lasts on maximum setting, which for me has ranged between 60 and 90 minutes. But during it's time charged it has been able to tackle any task I have put before it..... If you need a light easy to move vacuum....I strongly recomend giving this dyson a look

This is my first vacuum that could be considered from the "high end" type market, even if its quite a bit cheaper than it used to be when it was the top product. It cleans significantly better than my old vacuum. Its well worth the price. The only issue that I've found is that the container is a bit small. That said, it could just be due to the fact that it picks up a lot more than I'm used to seeing get picked up, and that could equalize after a couple times using it.

When it’s not on the power boost/max setting, the suction is not great. When on the power boost/max setting it is every bit as good as a regular vacuum. However, on that setting you are only able to get through a little more than 1/2 of a 1,300 sq ft apartment. Which brings me to the first major flaw; there is no way to buy a second battery that can be kept charged and easily swapped in when the first battery dies. Yes, there are second batteries that you can buy but those are for permanent replacement purposes. The second major flaw is that you have to continuously squeeze the power button while operating. There is no way to “click” it on. This is very tiring for people with poor grip or arthritis. I think that there are better options for the money. Will probably buy a different one and keep this in the garage for vacuuming the cars.
