Be careful to read the description, I thought I was getting a fantastic deal until it arrived and was refurbished. Now it was refurbished very well and close to new in all respects, to include new parts, but used is used. It is very light and easy to use and switch out attachments. Unloading the dirt is easy as well. It does a decent job as a regular Dyson vacuum in most respects, but you can't match the overall ability of a regular vacuum to handle and clean every type of rug. This works great on hardwood, but will not work on a shag carpet. For the other carpets it was just fine and you can always go to the higher power mode if you want, but your battery life gets reduced to about 10 minutes if you do that. It is very light and easy to handle. Recharging can be done on the charging station but you have to find a place near an outlet to hang a vacuum and that probably will not be easy unless you like people seeing a vacuum on your wall. Call it "domestic art" I suppose. We hand ours out of sight and just charge it on the counter as needed at night. As a vacuum compared to a plug in - it would get 4 starts - but since it gets used more often than the plug in because it is easy to operate and less of a pain, it gets 5 stars. Cost plays a big factor with these. Dyson has numerous models and V models - so be sure to pay attention to what you are paying for. The V8 is not the most elite model, but I am not sure why you would need anything more. It has and does it all. And yes we have a dog and would recommend this for pet owners. ... show more

I bought this vacuum cleaner as a general purpose cleaning tool to be used in my apartment and in my car. Being compact, lightweight and battery operated, I didn't expect it to be exceptional even though it's relatively expensive. However I am mildly surprised at how powerful it is. It serves well for all general purpose vacuum cleaning. The unit comes with these accessories - 1. a direct drive cleaner head for carpets 2. a mini motorized tool for upholstery 3. a crevice tool 4. a combination tool (essentially a crevice tool with a brush) 5. a mini soft dusting brush 6. an up top adapter that helps clean high-up areas 7. an extension wand 8. a docking station All the tools serve their purpose sufficiently well and carry the over all iron/sprayed nickel/purple color scheme. I had an upright vacuum cleaner before and even a small cleaning task meant I found myself spending more time unwinding and winding the cord rather than the cleaning itself. However, with this vacuum cleaner being compact and cordless, it comes really handy and quick cleaning doesn't take more than a couple of minutes. Without the cord, it's also convenient to use in the car. The downside to being battery operated is, well, the battery itself. In regular power mode, it lasts anywhere between 20 to 40 minutes depending on the tool being used. It has a MAX power mode for extra powerful suction and it drains a completely charged battery in about 6 minutes. For my cleaning habits, the battery lasts long enough for me to clean one room, including the carpet. Then, it needs to be charged before I can clean another room, which takes anywhere between 3 to 4 hours. The media could not be loaded. Pros: Amazing suction, sexy to look at, super light weight, easy to maneuver. Cons: VERY SHORT BATTERY LIFE— especially in the highest power mode. 13 minutes max. Also, the “on” button seems to work like a power drill. You have to keep your finger on it to operate it. Pain in the arse. SUMMARY: As vacuums go, suction is the most important, right? That makes any Dyson vacuum the best option. Plus, Dyson is a cool company and is STILL privately owned. There’s a great episode about Dyson on the podcast How I Built This. Product came without the small power head, but responsive customer service sent a new one to me fast. I have tried the manual sweeper that you see on TV and the Tineco cordless sweeper purchased on Amazon. This is a game changer. Way, way, way more powerful than the Tineco and easily picks up larger items like dog food. Works really well on hardwoods and stairs with the small power head. With the Tineco you must constantly remove and clean the filters and as the filters became more clogged, the sweeper would lose suction. The Dyson powers through the whole house. Handle doesn't fit my hand well and with the power unit above the handle, makes the sweeper seem heavier than it really is. This is worth the extra money! ... show more

Bought this for my daughter, who lives in a condo with a tall wooden staircase with her dog, who sheds a lot. The big, clunky Hoover was just too much to manage. She loves this Dyson!Now Follow-up - she just tried to empty the dirt collector for the first time and the release button is completely stuck! Now we have to wait for the electronics company to contact us. Very disappointed! Update: Contacted Dyson 3 weeks ago and read the serial number to the representative, who said he would order an exchange, since the part could not be detached for the rest. Made a follow-up call. Turns out it was a refurbished unit, though the Amazon site says "new"...Dyson put me on hold numerous times trying to find out why we haven't received the replacement. It is out of stock and I'm being told it was a V-10, not the V-8 I paid for and I believed we had received. It is possible the rep wrote the wrong serial down that I had read from the machine. They say they are sending a different V-10 refurbished one that is comparable. It had better be, since I paid $410 for this! VERY UPSET AND UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS. ... show more
