This review is for the Dyson Solarcycle Morph Desk Light (Model: CD06, Color: White/Silver). Dyson also makes a floor-standing model. When I first saw this light, I felt it was straight out of science fiction. The multi-functional design and seamlessly adjustable color temperature/lighting level make the Solarcycle Morph versatile and easy to live with. It works as a focused and powerful task light, can be rotated to bounce off walls or ceilings to provide indirect lighting, and it also has a beautiful ambient mode when the head is magnetically docked on the perforated stem, where the light is channeled through a copper-colored tube. The build quality and materials are decidedly premium, and I like how the swing arm and dock movements are smooth and satisfying. Much of the smart functionality, such as programmable wake-up light, daylight tracking based on location (which includes intensity and color temperature), and customization of task modes, is powered by the MyDyson app. There are manual controls as well, but in my opinion, the smart functions make this light special, and with a $500 price tag at the time of review, I want to take advantage of them. Notes: 1) Installation was fairly straightforward: you attach the stem to the base by screwing a plate on, and the product package has cutouts that assist with this step. The first time around, I accidentally cross-threaded the bottom plate and had difficulty removing it, but I got it on the second attempt. ... show more

I'm already in the Dyson ap ecosystem so setting up this office task light was very straight forward and easy. Packaged nicely in the box, assembly is straight forward. Once put together it is very stable and easy to use. Nice to set on the end of a desk and articulate over to your work area. Individual spot light that you can control brightness and color levels. My biggest concern is the price. Looks like most retail prices are $600. That's honestly just too much. I get that it's a "smart" desk lamp but I feel like this is something Hue could make and sell for a fraction of the price. ... show more

4.5 stars - I’ll preface this by saying that I love trying out new tech but I try to approach these buys as fun/toys rather than survival basics. With that said, this is a very satisfying splurge. By far, my favorite part is the changing light color temperatures as you transition from ambient (beautiful warm yellow - 2800K?) to spot light (bright daylight - 5000K?). Sometimes I find daylight white to be too blue and this lamp really hits the spot with a light color that has fantastic color rendering of whatever you’re trying to use it to illuminate. (Note: in the app you can also manual override the color to any Kelvin between 2700-6500 along with brightness from 100-850Lm.) The spot light is super bright but shielded so it doesn’t cause glare and the ambient light is so pleasant without casting circle shadows. The whole light feels well built, is rather heavy, and has a USB-C charging port built in. The button placement is a little questionable having push buttons on top with touch buttons right below - to touch the lower buttons, I find myself trying to pinch the lamp for stability and I end up bumping one of the top buttons too. The power button is a touch on top and it’s very sensitive. Often, I accidentally toggle the light on and off without realizing and then wonder why the light is not on. Not my favorite placement. The magnetic docking clicks into place and it’s so satisfying when you extend or close the arm. I don’t particularly love the look of the arm, making an L-shaped profile, but I find the use of the arm so practical and flexible that I got over it really fast. The app interface is pretty basic: it’s easy to add the new device and set up. I like the scheduling modes and use the Wake Mode everyday now that it’s getting dark again in the morning. I have had some trouble with Wake Mode working on the weekends - so I’ll keep playing with it to rule out user error. Overall, it’s price tag is a hard pill to swallow with some design features to be improved but if you like fancy, new things, you’ll definitely like this lamp like I do. Now I only wish I had the matching floor lamp too! ... show more
