  • Fast and Good Spin for Outdoor pickleball
Color: Neon Style: 6 Pack
These are good for warm/hot days. Once it gets cooler, lower 40s to high 30s, these begin to crack and break. Other then that, they play great and would definitely recommend for outdoor play. Some people don't like using these compared to the Franklin because they are faster and spin more. I've played with people who refuse to use these balls. ... show more

  • These are official balls used in tournaments
Color: Yellow Style: 12 Pack
I use these all the time now. They come with a very smooth surface which is fast. This surface goes away in about 2-3 games and takes on a rougher feel which I actually like. The rougher surface lasts a very long time as the balls don't really lose their bounce for a long time. I like the rougher surface as I feel it gives me more control of the ball flight with the racket (i.e., top spin). Though not sure, I think the initial smooth surface is for official tournament play where everyone starts at the same level. I think it's important to use these balls occasionally for this purpose, i.e., to not forget the "feel" present in tournament play. However, I keep these balls since I like the rougher feel, and frankly, the bounce stays for much longer than cheaper balls. Finally, I wouldn't recommend starting out with these. They are more expensive than other balls. Use the crappy, cheap balls for starting out. When you're able to start hitting consistently, then switch to these. They are great balls and last forever. ... show more

  • I HATE playing with Dura Fast 40 pickleballs. So why am I giving them 5-stars......?
Color: Yellow Style: 6 Pack
One frustration with Pickleball is the lack of a standardized ball. There are indoor and outdoor balls, which makes sense I suppose. But every manufacturer uses their own proprietary material so every different ball plays and feels different. Last year our club settled the Onix Fuse to be 'the' official ball. Great ball, lots of 'feel' and a lot of control for those of us who enjoy playing with spin. Then a few months ago it was decided that we would switch to the Penn 40 Pickleball. Fine. The Penn feels a little 'heavier' with less bounce than the Onix, but it's pretty close. Well, someone saw where the pros like the Dura Fast 40 balls because they are hard as a rock, giving much less bounce and because they are so hard, it's difficult to hit them just right. I find that I have to dink them much firmer to get them over the net and hit firm shots much softer or they go out. If you have excellent shot placement skills and you want a ball that can inflict maximum pain on your opponent with body shots and you want to make your Pickleball game much more difficult, these are the balls for you. :-/ ... show more

  • Durafast 40
Color: Neon Style: 6 Pack
Great balls but they don’t last long. Also the neon variety is very prone to becoming mis shaped during the first couple of times hitting the ball and this warped condition stays with the ball and makes it almost unusable. This does not happen as frequently in the yellow ball. Still despite these flaws, they are the best ball out there as far as coming off the paddle and maintaining their speed until they crack. Franklin balls which are often compared to the dura maintain their speed through one game then it’s a consistent downhill they become until they are mushy or flat and do not bounce well which is even worse to play with in my opinion. ... show more

  • Dura Fast 40 vs. Franklin X-40 vs. Onix... hopefully this saves you some research!
Color: Neon Style: 6 Pack
(Reviewed by Trevor, not Tiffany) This review might save you a lot of time researching balls, but here's the summary if you don't want to read the full review... Consider the Dura Fast 40 if money is not an issue, but expect only about 2 games per ball... definitely go with the Franklin X-40 if you're more of a casual player (except for wood courts of course). If you just want the ball to last and don't care much about egging or quality of play go with the softer and slower and bouncier Onix ball. Full review: This review will focus largely on the physical & quality comparisons between the Franklin Outdoor X-40 and the Dura Fast 40 pickleballs, but I'll also give a summary of my impressions from the mouth of experts and supplement also by my own amateur impressions and measurements. Dura hole specs: 16 drilled holes @ 0.325" & 24 drilled holes @ .264" Both balls have 40 holes with an average hole size of 0.288", but the Dura ball has a far more randomized hole pattern. I personally didn't notice any difference in spin characteristics or any notable advantage to the randomized hole pattern feature of the Dura. Franklin weight: 26g Dura weight: 25g Both balls are rotationally molded in one continuous piece so the seam is just as strong as the rest of the ball on either ball... the appearance of a seam is on the outside of the ball only but the visual molding mark is not actually separated in any way in the middle of the ball and the inside of the ball will likewise appear 100% seamless on either ball, so no true seam exists (both balls are true "1-piece" balls). The Dura ball has much smoother molding marks w/ no plastic flashing like the Franklin... this is largely cosmetic but quality in this regard definitely goes to the Dura. Subjective color preference: in the shade I think the Dura "Neon" color looks better (see pic), but in typical full sun the green tint looks dingy on the Dura ball in my opinion, and I feel the Franklin "Optic Yellow" is a crisper color that's probably a little more visible. These are the only 2 balls I have to compare. I would prefer more dye to be used for a green ball so it still looks green in full sun because in my experience with disc golf and ball golf neon green is the most visible color and neon pink is good too... with these options I'd pick the yellow... the green tint on the Dura is so subtle in full sun it ends up looking more like a dingy yellow rather than a green. A more apples to apples comparison would be Dura's yellow option but I'm pretty confident Franklin would win that contest also based on the notably higher translucency in the plastic used by Dura. Color: Franklin wins. Franklin X-40 country of origin: China Dura Fast 40 country of origin: Vietnam - - EXPERT INSPIRED IMPRESSIONS - - From what I've heard, expect much longer play per dollar out of the Franklin and expect very little life out of the Dura. Dura's are supposed to be slightly harder/better/faster, but they often only last a few games based on everything I've read and heard. For older players consider the Onix over either of these balls... softer balls bounce higher and hit slower which allows more time to get to the ball for longer rallies... the Onix seems to be the favorite for play in older aged groups. Based on expert advise from the "pickleball kitchen" youtube channel... Best performance award (fastest, hardest): Dura Fast 40 Best Value (also w/ great performance): Franklin Outdoor X-40 - - - except high level players should opt for the Dura due to tournament requirements Longest lasting, but soft and bouncy: Onix Note: something like 90% of tournaments use the Dura ball, and the balance use the Franklin... virtually no tournaments (if any) use the Onix ball or any other ball. My personal recommendation for most players based on a lot of reviews and some research and a close look would be to skip the Dura and go straight to the Franklin X-40 until you're playing tournaments... if/when you advance to the level of playing serious tournament play I don't think it would take long to transition muscle memory and power from the Franklin outdoor ball to the Dura ball and a lot of money and annoyance can be saved w/ the Franklin over the highly breakable Dura... Franklin X-40 balls don't last very long either, but compared to the Dura it's a notable improvement strongly worth considering even if you're a quality buff like myself. Manufacturing quality: Dura wins Material durability: Franklin wins (and Onix lasts longer still if you don't mind egging) Quality of play: Probably Dura (although I don't love looking for cracks all the time) Value (w/o sacrificing much): Franklin I'm rating the Dura ball three stars due to a highly dishonest name (the "Dura" ball is the exact opposite of durable) - other than that, I have no issue w/ the short life of the ball since short life can actually indicate a very high quality ball when it comes to pickleball. Despite the long read, I'm hoping this helps the reader save some time in selecting a pickleball, especially for players new to the game. ... show more
