  • The secret to success with shrink film is PREPARATION.
Out of the box, you can tell this film is approximately twice as thick as regular Duck shrink film. I have a couple windows that are draftier than the others. This film is perfect for those and this will be my film of choice in the future. The tape seems to be the standard Duck window tape (that comes with the regular film) but it holds just the same. This film is just the tiniest bit less glass-clear than the thinner film, but not noticeable once it was shrunk & the curtains were back up. From the outside, I cannot tell any difference at all between the regular film & this thicker film. That's a plus for me, as I don't want the place looking too hokey from the outside. I have used & liked 3M window film in the past, but Duck is my choice because it performs as well overall, but costs less. I am very happy with this product. Thank you Duck :) When the directions say to **remove tape at end of heating season**.....make sure you do it. The longer you wait, the harder is is to remove the tape residue from the window surface. My windows are white vinyl. Normally stuff cleans off the surface easily, but not if I leave the tape up too long. The sticky substance starts to become semi-permanent. This process seems to occur over several months, to longer. I'd say it takes about 8 months for this to start. It prob depends on temps, humidity, UV from sunshine, etc as to how long exactly. I have left film up to three years on windows I never open. In one instance the film let go of the tape finally, but on 2 other windows it held the entire time. I only needed to remove it because the film was pretty dirty. If I had known how hard it was to remove the tape residue, I would have left the film in place and just cleaned it with window cleaner & a microfiber cloth, like I do with glass. When I remove the tape after the recommended 6 months or so, I have NEVER had issues removing the film & tape from ANY surface. The secrets to success with shrink film kits is PREPARATION. Follow the instructions where it says to CLEAN the tape surface properly. This does two things that are vital to the process: 1) making sure the tape holds the entire season and 2) making sure the tape comes off easily when you want to pull it off. On my vinyl windows, I first wipe them down with window cleaner, then I quickly swipe the surface with rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball. On wood windows I did the same, altho I tested both first and didn't allow either to be on the finish surface anywhere near as long. On finished wood surfaces it is VITAL to take this stuff down as soon as possible in spring. If you follow the instructions when it says to do this, you'll be fine. If you leave it up longer you run the risk of having dried tape residue that only comes off with lots of spraying, soaking, scraping and elbow grease. I have used this product for a few non-window applications. In my bathroom there are two openings in the ceilings, an attic access and a disabled recirculating fan. The film worked great to help control the amount of heat that was escaping, and made the bathroom feel much warmer. Those surfaces are *semi-gloss* paint. The tape came off fine when I removed it as recommended. I would be leery of using this tape on any kind of flat or satin wall paint, for example standard flat ceiling paint. Test first, since this is not a labeled use. The less glossy/more porous a surface is, the harder it is to get the tape off without damage or tape residue being left behind. ... show more

  • Awesome, used to seal a glass-covered gas fireplace, worked perfectly!! Highly Recommend
I have a gas fireplace in the formal living room that I haven't used for years. There's a glass front and a grill at the top and bottom to allow heat into the room when the fireplace is turned on. No flu damper. Let lots of cold air in during the winter and made the room and house drafty. I was a bit worried about the tape damaging the fireplace frame, which is exactly 1/2" in width. The tape fit perfectly (the tape is 1/2". Very easy to put the tape on. The plastic went on fine, though there is a piece of "vent metal" across the top of the fireplace below the frame that sticks out at a 45 degree angle to help with the heating. Worked fine, but don't expect a completely smooth look if your opening is not completely flat (I did use a hairdyer to tighten the film, but it was not smooth due to the mentioned vent metal piece). Best of all: I put it on in the fall (October-ish) and left it on until just this August, when I took it off when putting the house on sale for showings. NO damage to the powder-black fireplace frame, NO residue, and got it off in under a minute. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. ... show more

  • Functional, see-through and easy to install!
Before switching to thicker curtains my friend and I tried these in February 2021 and they worked well! We dusted off and then taped the top, sides and edges of our living room (double hung) windows before applying the film to the top and working down. We then used a hairdryer to smooth out the wrinkles and installation was finished in roughly ten minutes. While it (understandably) did not work as well as our new curtains the film remained in place and kept the living room warm enough for the whole spring (30-40 degrees F per day), while being (literally) transparent! Durable, easy to install and pleasant-looking while being mildly effective, this film is at least an easy 4/5! ... show more

  • Stopped the air gusts!
I’m in Buffalo, NY. In wintertime. Trust me when I say this works. Very easy to put up. Very clear, doesn’t ruin the view out the window.

  • good stuff. works well
I really like this Duck window film it is heavy duty which i guess is a bit thicker than the standard stuff so i used it on the large porch windows i give it good marks have used it before also. you have to cut it to the right length but that was just what i needed for these windows

  • Product QA/QC needs improvement for cleanliness of film prior to packaging
I purchased this exact product last year to cover my windows in my northern Michigan cottage along Lake Michigan, where the winds can be fierce. And it worked perfectly. It was crystal clear and the insulating factor was awesome. This year's batch is different. The product seems slightly thinner. But the thing that really bothers me the most is that the film is "dirty." It's cloudy with many smudges. I noticed it upon opening. I proceeded to install it and have very smudgy film to look through for the next 5 months. It's as though the factory / production facility was operating in poor conditions. I'm sure I'll have the same insulating quality, but not the same views. ... show more

  • Max protection for large windows
Great insulation product for large windows. This product is a tad bit thicker than the traditional window insulation kits. It’s just as easy to install as the other kits and provides the same if not more protection.

  • Keep the cold OUT and Your home COZY!
These are so easy to use! Double sided tape comes with it. Very durable. And I love that you can see outside. No blurred view. Use for anywhere you have a draft. And great for making a mini green house for your plants.
