I had a big draft coming from my ac unit and making the NY cold a bit unbearable. I had tried taping the sides for a better seal, but it wasnt helping. I purchased this product as an attempt to reduce the cold from coming in and i am simply impressed. The material was easy to cut with regular scissors and the double sided 3M tape has been holding strong. The tape will easily stick to your fingers, so be careful handling it as it can be a pain. I just installed this 3 days ago, so i cant speak for the material durability, but so far its looks good and its holding strong. The package also came with easy installation instructions.

I order this every year for my window units & they work so well. I hate that there is no way to reuse them bc when you take them down at the end of the season they rip where they are stuck on with tape. But this gives a complete seal around the window along with a nice clean look. It helps block out the light & keep the warm air from coming in the cracks. Along with any bugs. I do save my leftover pieces & tape to use where I can the following year to help with cost and waste. When in stalling, I lay it out flat, white side up, & use a tape measure & marker to know where to cut the ac out at. Then flip it when I installed it. Tip for the tape, do each side as 1 piece, position it as you lay it out & press it firmly to your trim/window. I run my finger over all the tape again before I put the foam on. Do the whole window like that. Then when you’re ready to put the foam up, start in one spot, removing the plastic on the tape and firmly pressing the foam to it.

I like the result, but it was a royal pain to install. Here's a few tips: 1) Lay it out flat, foam side down, put some weights on the ends, and let it sit a day. This avoids the curling problem. 2) Cutting is indeed easy. If you aren't sure about the exact fit then cut large. You can trim it later to make it a bit smaller. 3) The tape is the main problem. I ruined the first two pieces I tried to install. Cut a few inches off and play with it to get used to it. If it gets stuck to itself forget it! I seriously doubt that it's possible to remove the mat, store it, then reinstall it. The tape would be sticky on both sides. How are you going to store that? 4) Off the reel the tape is sticky on one side. Once applied you will have to remove the binder on the top side. This is no fun since you can't see it! It's transparent just like the tape. As I said above, practice a bit with some short pieces first. This would have been easier if they used a colored backer! 5) I was unwilling to attempt a one-piece install, given the tape problems and the accuracy of the cuts required. So I did a three-piece install instead: left and right panels (full height), then a strip across the top (width of the A/C). This went well for me. The only downside is that there are two very small (1.5" for me) seams where the top strip butts into the panel pieces on either side. Bonus: Using the 3-piece install method left me just enough mat material to do a second A/C. Nice! Would I do it again? Yes, now that I know the tricks. But then I'm not planning on storing and reinstalling it.

We all have ordered things and had that moment of "....this looks nothing like what I ordered". Fortunately, this isn't one of those things. Let it sit flat on your table for like 10 mins and its good to go. Of course, putting something on it like a book or whatnot is advisable. I have a husky, and he saw the window unit as an 'escape' option. He literally punched the extenders out of the window! This blends well with the frame and the rest of your wall and tricked him into losing interest. It is easy to cut and adhere to window, just be wary with the 'tape' as it can stretch and be a little finicky when installing (sticking to fingers, scissors when trying to cut it, etc) It also is noticeable for insulation, you can literally hold your hand up to it and feel a difference between it and the window above it. Its nice and thick quality rubber peice not flimsy. It comes with extra double stick tape and its easy to install. Overall, a great product. Highly recommend it.

This item is flexible plastic with very thin foam backing. Difficult to measure and it is very flexible and hard to keep in place. The double sided tape is gel like and very sticky hard to get off your fingers and onto the area you want to place it on. Very disappointed and way too expensive!
