This works great! Incredibly strong when placed on thick steel. On thin sheet metal like a metal door the performance is disappointing because this magnet does not have a large surface area. When placed on a thick steel safe and turned to the "on" position it cannot be pulled off. Turn it back to the "off" position and it's as if it's not a magnet at all. I did not need this, but I want another one because it's that cool.

Extremely strong magnets if used on thicker metal...Using these to run a line between 2 metal beams and they work great....I'm 6'2" 240 pounds and can BARELY pull them straight off

This magnet is smaller than I expected, but it works great. The footprint of this magnet is about the same size as a TicTac box, and maybe 1 1/2” tall. Perhaps because of its more compact size, the magnet is not as strong as my larger switched magnet, but it will meet most of my needs. I found that I can pull metal pieces off of this magnet (with some effort) without turning the magnet off, whereas with my larger switched magnet I generally cannot remove pieces before I turn it off. Again, that might in the right circumstance be a good thing. My main uses for these magnets are for holding metal pieces in place for welding, holding jigs in place on my table saw and bandsaw, and picking up metal pieces off the ground/floor. This magnet works great for holding metal in place for welding and for picking up metal off the ground, but it is a bit too weak for holding jigs in place on the saw. For the price, it is a very good addition to the shop.
