I've never gotten my own kiln wash before, but this was easy to use and had clear directions. A couple notes- It was not enough for an entire set of new kiln furniture and it did take longer to dry between coats than I was expecting. So plan in advance!

I put this on all of my shelving, and it's helped in every situation that my glaze has run. I've not had anything stick since I started using this. Reapply after a while if it needs a little more. I run my kiln a lot so I found that my most used shelves will need another coat or two every now and then. Good kiln wash!

I washed my kiln with this and it is as dirty as ever! Sorry, I could not resist the Dad Joke. In reality, "kiln wash" is a treatment for kiln shelves so accidental glaze drips come off the shelf without taking a chunk of the shelf with it. I had this problem with my fire brick shelves so I decided to try this wash even though it is not recommended for this application. It is really made for the dense, professionally made kiln furniture but it worked with my alumina/silica fire bricks just fine. The kiln wash comes premade so you don't have to start from a powder and mix it yourself. That said, the bottle contents do settle and you will have to do some shaking to get the solids back into the solution. The application is straightforward. Apply three coats and let dry. Afterwards, you fire the shelf in a bisque firing. After that, you have stick-free shelves. However, if you do get some sticking, you should reapply the kiln wash to the area that was pulled up. The firebrick does fine with the wash, but be careful not to saturate the brick as it will lose some of its insulating properties and use up a lot of the wash. It will change the color of the brick so you can tell the coverage pretty easily. Pretty happy with this kiln wash even though it does seem a little pricey. You can make it yourself or mix it up from powder for cheaper, but for a few extra bucks, you can have the convenience of premade, professional kiln wash.
