Great chair! Got the 20in version with flip up arms and removable swing away pedals. Makes using slide board for transfers a lot easier. Is a bit heavy, but manageable to put in the trunk relatively easily for a couch potato woman, like me. Definitely want to add a cushion. Nice adjustability features and good price for plus size user. Its a touch snug through some of our doorways and won't go through one at all. Be sure to measure before you buy and account for a little more front- to back length of turning radius with the pedals on. Works well for my 5'9", 275lb partner. The extendable seat depth is a nice feature. Full arm rests are pretty sturdy though one's cushion is a little wobbly after 2mo of using to stand. Nothing a screwdriver won't fix though. My wife has lung cancer and COPD. She can walk but requires oxygen and walking anywhere makes her completely winded. This wheelchair is fantastic. We have had it for a couple of months now and for the frequent doctor's appointments it has made both of our lives so much better. It is light and easy to wheel her around yet is made very well. I have a small SUV and it collapses easily and fits into the back with no problem at all. It is not too heavy to lift in either. My wife is only 5'4" and weighs about 120 lbs. but the 16" wide chair is perfectly comfortable for her and it fits through doorways without any problem at all. In fact, I sat in it and it is very comfortable for me (and I am 6' tall and weigh about 225 lbs.) It maneuvers well when there is not a lot of room and when I take her out, she has to have oxygen so I have to coordinate her and the carriage for the oxygen. This wheelchair allows me to coordinate both with no problem. It came basically assembled and is very easy to open and fold down for putting in the car. The feet rests are easily detachable and adjust very easily. The best thing was the price. I wasn't sure that for this reasonable price, it would be made that well or stand up to extended usage but so far it is perfect. I could have spent a lot more on another wheelchair with a few more fancy features, but for something that really works well and is reasonably priced, I am extremely happy with our purchase and how well it works for us. ... show more

I bought this for my mother who was undergoing medical treatments over a period of weeks as an outpatient. It was not intended as her means of transportation as she uses a walker for short distances. She weighs less than 110 pounds and is about 5 feet 5 inches tall. It fits her and works very well for her although I almost always push her. The chair moves easily and is stable over flat terrain. My mother says it comfortable and does not need a pad on the seat. I am a bit concerned about the possibility of falling backward when going up a curb but have not verified that this is a problem. The chair folds inwards with two straps at the sides of the seat allowing easy collapse. I find that it fits my trunk better when I remove the "foot holders." It is not a featherweight but probably about 15 kilos. It arrived in a single cardboard box. Other than the "foot holders" it was completely assembled. It had protective plastic film covering the wheels. So far the only adjustments I have made are to the lengths of the "foot holders." The side heights can also be adjusted. Given its reasonable price, I recommend it for lightweight persons. ... show more

I bought this chair when husband weighed 265. He weighs 345 now. When he plopped into chair he tore the very front corner. It was working perfectly for a transfer chair and for me when I had to stay off my feet 2 weeks. This seems to be a great chair. That said, I did buy originally knowing my husband would gain weight once he got home from 6 mo hospital stay where they controlled his diet. I did not expect him to gain as much as he did though. I intentionally bought with a 50 lb over weight guessing he would get to 300 and chair is rated 350. So, if you have no control lowering into the chair, I would definitely buy 100 lbs over the suggested weight. The chair tore only because my husband did not use it right plus neared the max weight of the chair and plopped causing a much greater force,. Yes I would recommend. I am currently looking for the same chair but bigger. :-( It was easy for me to fold and lift into car even one armed. I injured both wrists and hands in a fall and had surgery one hand at a time. I simply used my hip as my fulcrum and grabbed the locked large wheel and tilted my hip and pulled with one hand and arm. I would set it on the edge of the trunk where I have a rubberish plastic edge that protects the paint. I did have a windshield sunshade laying inside the trunk for the wheelchair to slide in and out by sliding. This was not that difficult even though I need a hip replacement and arthritis in my back and hand issues. I did see a youtube where the handicapped passenger had a rope in the front seat that extended to the trunk and the mature lady tied it on. My wife is ambulatory, but cannot walk longer distances or stand for extended periods. So we use a wheelchair when we travel, or when we go on local outings to explore the city, visit museums, etc. So it does not get constant use, more like regular use of perhaps 25-30 days per year. This Drive wheelchair replaced a similar chair that performed well for 10yrs, but the wear & tear of plane travel and those years of use made it time to replace. We just returned from a 10-day trip during which this new Drive chair performed very well. It is comfortable, has useful adjustments, seems well-made, and the seat cushion we had for the previous chair works just fine with this one too. While I would say it would not be ideal for daily use – especially outside – it is an excellent and well-priced chair for our needs. Our only concern is the front wheels. They are pretty narrow, and tend to get caught in the wider cracks/joints of sidewalks and courtyards that use many different surface/stone types, so you need to be careful. On one trip with our old chair a number of years ago we had a front wheel break on a sidewalk in Amsterdam, and while we were able to find a shop to replace the wheels it was obviously an unexpected inconvenience. Those replacement wheels are somewhat wider & quite sturdy, so we may swap those wheels onto the new chair. We saw numerous reviews that noted difficulty with getting missing parts and/or good customer service from Drive. Our experience is just the opposite. During our trip we discovered that the two screws that secure the seat-rail extensions were missing. Not crucial to its operation, but obviously an issue, so upon our return home I had a productive web chat with a helpful fellow from Drive named Adam, who immediately understood the issue and I received replacement screws two days later. When I left rehab with my two broken ankles, they gave me a wheelchair like this, a rental covered by insurance. But the carpet in my home made moving almost impossible and to get an electric wheelchair, I had to give up the rental. This is the same chair I was renting. Exactly, except with some very subtle nicer touches. I can lift this chair or take the legs off. The seat is wide enough for today's American behind and it's a comfortable sit. You might prefer a nice pad for it but it's okay the way it is. Every time I have to life it to exit the two stair steps of my house, I am so grateful for it. Well built. It will last you as long as you need wheels. I thought one of these would probably cost $500 bucks or so but at $169, why would you pay to rent unless you only expected to need a wheelchair 2-3 weeks tops. Great deal. ... show more
