  • Great printer!
Style: Printer
I currently own two Dremel 3D45’s and I have to say they are amazing! I have printed ALL of Dremel's filaments (in every color) and they are extremely simple to use and print perfectly! I have also printed Proto-Pasta HTPLA as well as Proto-Pasta HTPLA CF in one of my units. I would recommend upgrading to a plated/hardened nozzle to print CF or any other “exotic” fliaments. The packing of the product is what you’d expect from Dremel. It’s simple set up, and start a pre-loaded print with in seriously less than an hour (there is firmware update). The menu screens are easy to read and navigate. The machine is honestly very quiet. The enclosure helps but overall even with a door open it’s not loud. Pros: Simple to use Easy to set up Quiet Amazing build quality Dremel Specific Cura Print Cloud Built in camera Auto set up of Dremel filaments Able to use 3rd Party Filaments* Cons: No Yellow PLA from Dremel at the moment Slow start up 5 screws (Torx & Hex) to clear a hard jam No Torx/Hex tools included. ... show more

  • Easy to use out of the box and produce high quality objects Easy to use out of the box and produce high quality objects
Style: Printer
Very pleased with the purchase so far. I was able to print right out of the box with the included models (frog) but also with few models directly from Thingiverse (cookie cutters, windup car...) without any issues. Dremel DigiLab 3D slicer works best for me, I tried printcloud but the slicer gave me some issues and the results were not great with some bed adhesion problems. Overall pretty happy with the purchase. Concerning the EDU package that I bought to go through my 8 years old daughter and 11 years old son, I was a bit disappointed that it did not come with lessons printed in booklets for the price, it is 100% online and you need to print the lessons yourself. Lessons seem to be well done and I am planning to go over a few of them with my kids, I have not done so yet though. ... show more

  • Decent 3D Printer for a beginner or a classroom
Style: Printer
Initially I purchased the Dremel DigiLab 3D45 mostly because it carried the Dremel name and Dremel's history as a tool company. Then there were the features that it was a pre-built unit, ready to go right out of the box in just about 30 minutes. Touted a simple interface essentially plug and play. To Dremel's credit this was all true. I received the printer had it unboxed and ready to go and printing my first print job in just over 30 minutes. The web interface has the advantage that you can use just about any flavor of Windows, Apple, Linux, Android, IOS, etc. As long as you have a modern Web Browser you're in business. The RFID enabled filament spools specific to Dremel take some of guesswork out of setting up the filament settings and mostly transfer to the web interface for slicing. The first print job was a spool adapter so that I could use NON- Dremel filament. There is where we hit the first downside of the Dremel DigiLab 3D45, it's reliance on proprietary spools of filament. Yes, I knew this going in, but after watching some videos and reviews and seeing that the community has had success with some various adapters to use no Dremel filament I went and pulled the trigger and bought it. Of course the above reason came into play too. At first we were rocking and rolling printing like mad fools. Had a few failures, as expected, some good successes, overall the experience was good. Then disaster struck. I had my first major nozzle clog. Off to the web and Dremel's support site for help. NOT MUCH THERE. But there were a few things telling me what to do. UNFORTUNATELY, none of the steps were able to get my nozzle unclogged. So off I went to purchase a new nozzle. It showed up a few days later and I was printing again, BUT, a short time later another clog. This went of for a couple of weeks and about 5 nozzles. I finally reached out to Dremel, the of course sent me a new nozzle, but the situation wasn't remedied. I again reached out and this time got a support tech that told me that the troubleshooting procedure from the first contact wasn't quite right and that I should have been sent a whole heating assemble, the coil, heater and nozzle. So that came a few days later with instructions and I sent an email to the tech, we exchanged numerous emails, pictures and videos of the printer in action with the new assembly and getting the calibrations just right. Overall the printer performed within specs AS LONG AS I used the proprietary Dremel filament. Whenever I strayed from that filament I had problems. Of course the tech also gave me detailed instructions on a full procedure to unclog the nozzle. This entailed setting the printer into preheat mode for 30 or more minutes allowing the clogged filament to soften enough that it can be pushed from the nozzle by the unclogging tool and new filament. Something that was NOT readily findable on the web. So now I have a $2000 printer that is locked down to proprietary filament with a rather limited selection for 500g spools that cost around the same as a non-proprietary 1kg spool on amazon. My final thoughts on the Dremel DigiLab 3D45, it IS a nice sturdy well built piece of machinery worthy of the Dremel name. It is QUICK to setup and get running. The interface is VERY easy to learn and operate and can be used from just about anywhere. The interface DOES have its glitches. Timelapse DOESN'T always capture the whole job, You ARE dependent on an ACTIVE internet connection. Though you CAN load an STL file to USB and used the inbuilt LCD to load your job to the printer. The Dremel DigiLab 3D45 is WiFi, Ethernet and USB capable. It really does NOT have OctoPrint compatibility out of the box. Though some folks in the community are working on it. Would I buy it again? No. It is too limited for serious 3D work. Would I recommend it? Not really, again it is too limited for serious 3D work. Is it good for light work and an Educational environment (Where Dremel really targeted this product in the first place), YES. It will definitely stand out there. ... show more

  • Good printer, but software holds it back.
Style: Printer
This is the first 3d printer I've owned, so this isn't really a comparative review, but a review of using the product. First off, it's fantastically fun to 3d print things. My kids have been making themselves toys almost non-stop, and when I can occasionally get in some time for myself, I've been printing up little organizational tools, and it is fantastic for both uses. The printed objects generally come out really fantastic, are very precise, and often look quite handsome. Changing filament is intuitive and fast. However, there are some caveats to be aware of: Caveat #1: The printer comes with really intuitive free software called Dremel DigiLabs 3d Slicer. It is really easy to get started with and takes 3d models that you want to print and converts them into instructions for the printer, including generating "supports" to hold up parts of the 3d model that would otherwise float in space. Unfortunately, the supports that it generates are really a giant pain to work with, are too frequent, too dense, and too difficult to remove. There is other 3D software (you can search for it) that will do a much better job of designing these supports, but the free versions typically don't work with this printer, and the paid ones are quite expensive. Caveat #2: Using other software would be a whole lot easier if there existed printer drivers, but the only evidence that such a thing might exist seems to several months old support posts indicating that drivers are eventually coming but not available yet. So, I instead of running a cable to print, I'm stuck ferrying a USB drive back and forth. It's not the end of the world, but it's more of a pain than it should be. Caveat #3: We've had this machine about a week now, and we've already had to clear two jams. When this happens, material simply stops flowing through the printhead, and device just keeps working away printing (somewhat amusingly) into space. Again, not the end of the world, but disappointing nonetheless. Caveat #4: The "educational software" was not what I expected. It's a very short, very generic course on 3d printing online that seems targeted at teachers who desire to have a certificate that says they know about 3d printing. I was hoping for a lot more detailed instructions on 3d modeling, support structure, relevant software packages and so forth. In its defense, the educational software did turn me onto the entirely independent and remarkably good TinkerCad and Fusion 360 programs So, two weeks in, this is not a perfect device and not quite what I expected, but it is a load of fun and incredibly useful for little projects and tinkering around the house. Even at this price, I do actually expect it to eventually pay for itself by printing things I would have otherwise picked up at the store, and of course it opens up the potential to create your own projects that are otherwise entirely unattainable. ... show more

  • Impressed
Style: Printer
This is my first 3D printer. I wanted something relatively easy to start out with and wouldn't cause me so much trouble that I got fed up and forfeit the hobby entirely, and this has not disappointed. The Dremel Digilab 3D45 was incredibly simple to get started and printed for two straight days after my preliminary print checks to verify quality without any trouble. I've been printing for about a week now and I still have no complaints. I've dug into the community surrounding this printer and begun working on isolating any possible variables that may interfere down the line at this point, but everything I read says it's a robust and reliable machine. If I have any additional comments down the road I'll be sure to update this post. ... show more

  • Out of the box and printing in 15 mins.
Style: Printer
I own a few 3d printers, some needed assembly and others not. No other printer was up and running as quickly as the Dremel had it on the workbench and heating up in 15 mins, used the supplied USB stick to print a few of the models that were pre-loaded. I have about 20 prints into the printer now including a 300mm Hulk for my son. Quality is great, software was very easy to use, if you have used Slic3r in the past this will be very easy to pickup and use. The only tips or tricks I have found so far is to make sure the filament door is secured, always clean your glass plate of the glue residue no matter how little there appears to be on there and remember to actually hit "build" before walking away and not checking on it for 48 hours. ... show more

  • The Dremel 3D45-EDU 3D printer is easy to use with almost no set-up
Style: Printer
The Dremel 3D45-EDU 3D printer is easy to use with almost no set-up. It was well packed for shipment which caused a bit of concern on how to get the packing material out of the machine without causing damage. We quickly found a video that suggested it was OK to gently lift up on the print head module to get it out of the way. Then we were able to remove the last of the packaging. We like that the Dremel filament reels come with an RFID chip that tells the machine how to make all necessary adjustments for the type of material used. The guided leveling and automatic calibration of the build plate are well worthwhile. The enclosure is sturdy and helps keep the work area at the proper temperature. The removable build plate makes it easy and quick to change print jobs keeping the machine running. Being able to remove the build plate also makes it easier to remove the print. The first 8th grader we introduced the machine to had a file downloaded and printing within 30 minutes. ... show more

  • Want to be up and running with quality prints fast? Buy now!
Style: Printer
Received mine yesterday. I can happily report that what other reviewers have said about how quickly you’re up and running is no joke! It’s the absolute truth. As an owner of (now) five 3D printers, I’ve grown accustomed to the time it takes to inbox, out the printers together, level again and again, make adjustments for filament types from different manufacturers, see a print fail, try to figure out why, print again... You get the point. All of that vexing tedium was taken out of the equation with this printer. Since setup about 12 hours ago, I’ve printed the included mechanic statue, the frog, a Star Trek Discovery badge, and am currently printing the lion. After all of that, I haven’t had to do any major adjustments to the bed level. I’ve spent maybe 30 seconds total turning knobs slightly. All prints have been free of z-banding, stringing, or other common artifacts of the 3D printing process. Needless to say, this was money well spent! ... show more
