More expensive than a lot of the cheapo ones you see on Amazon, but it's very heavy duty (which is what I was looking for). I'm using it to keep my dormant potted figs from getting too cold in my garage on the coldest nights of winter. This is primarily an infrared heater (just like the name suggests), which means it heats objects directly with radiant, infrared heat more so than heats the air. A good way to think of this concept is like stepping into the sunlight in summer, and you feel the sun's radiant heat on your skin. However, it does also have a fan to provide some heating of the air as well. I wouldn't expect it to warm up a large space significantly, but for something in this standard voltage/wattage range, it's about the best you're going to do. ... show more

Worked well to get me through a New England winter!

Update #2 Second New England winter of use, still going strong, even on the coldest nights, high fan, 15-25% on thermostat, it doesn't run constantly, it cycles like it should, and keeps my 50' x13' garage in the low to mid 60s. Recommended for sure! Honestly, I have never have needed to set thermostat over 25-30% to maintain a comfortable garage temp. I read that 220V is much more efficient than 110, I believe it, my electric bill has not shocked me yet. Update, winter in New England........ Success! Garage is under house, so doesn't get get super cold down here even on the worst days, Brings temp from 50s to comfortable in no time. One of the only affordable 220V 20Amp heaters I could find, believe me I did the research! Won't blow you out of the room, just steady, consistant heat. Others complained about the noise, not bad at all, what the heck, you're using it in a green house or garage, who cares, plants won't lose any sleep. Give it a go. I like it, Just what I was looking for, since I had 220V 20Amp circuit already set up for compressor. I like running it on high temp, low thermostat with great results so far. Can recommend this greenhouse heater. Last night (April 4th, 2025) the outside temp got down to 17.1° F, it was below freezing from about 9:20 pm until 9 am today (it was under 25° for 7 hours) and this heater kept it at a stable 38-39° the entire time. It obviously has enough capacity to do the job, our Canopia by Palram Bella model greenhouse is 8 x 12 ft with 6mm twin-wall polycarbonate and has about 508 cubic feet of volume. The heater ran for a total of 4.9 hours (7.1 kWh of electricity) during that 12 hour period, meaning it could have handled more. I don't know what the heat rise capacity is. Could it keep it at 38° when it is 0°? I don't think that is going to be tested, we're not planning on keeping plants in there during a Montana January and February (although I might run an experiment on a particularly cold night next winter). Will it last more than a year or two? I'll let you know. ... show more

It’s great but..

It’s a great little heater.. I have a greenhouse bubble top and the sides are polyurethane it’s about 10x10 ft If you live in the northern part of the US as I live in Michigan this will not be strong enough for temps under freezing. I have citrus plants and need the grenehouse to be at least 45 at night and this can’t do it with temps in single digits. If the sun is out it’ll stay a good temp during the day but it’s more of a concern at night. I had to add an additional heater to keep the temps up. This honestly could just be a mistake on my part as I need something stronger.. just wanted to share my experience. ... show more

Watts up Doc? Good for workshop and greenhouse. UPDATE! BURNT UP twice.

HEATER STARTED ON FIRE! This is an update!!! Important. I had the first heater for about three months, came into my shop and smelled burnt electronics and plastic. Heater didn't work. I opened the top, sure enough the wiring from the thermostat was completely burnt. I contacted Dr. Heaters and they actually sent me a new one for free. Good response and good service. Now one year later, the new one completely burnt out. I happened to be in the room this time. I saw the sparking through the top cracks, lots of smoke and then it stopped. Immediately I unpluged it.and when it stopped smoking and cooled down., I took the top off again. Te entire insides are burnt, but it was obvious that the wiring failed from the thermostat. When I first had the problem, I mentioned to the company that the wirie gage looked too small for the 220 volt 20 amp service. They said it was all to specs. Which might be the case, but I've wired enough electrical systems in my life to know better. I even compared the wire with my older heater. The good news is that the wiring is contained within the top of the all metal box, so the fire is contained. I checked my circuit breaker and it was fine. So there is obviously a problem with this heater. You will notice other reviewers having a similar problem. I'd give this 3.5 stars. It does work. It has a nice compact feel and seems well built. IIt is easy to move around, but I mounted it a few feet off the ground. I'm using it in my woodworking/garage area. I wanted something with a sealed fan motor and would be easy to use compressed air to blow off the heating elements. It seems good for that. The heat settings have a low and high. But I can't tell any difference in the heat output. I even used my laser digital scale temperature detector. The fan speed as one setting. The thermostat setting works as it should and appears good. The heat is distributed by the fan. HOWEVER, this is where I feel the product could be improved. The heat seems to be pushed around but does not go very far out from the heater. I would say only about 8 feet at the most. So the heater seems to create an aura of heat but not a direct convection. It has been working, and perhaps for a greenhouse that is the type of heat you need. I've only had it for about a month of usage, but its already been below Zero Farenheit and in the low single digits for a few weeks here in N. Dakota. The heater has been able to keep my shop above freezing at 40 degrees F. in my insulated 20 x 25 foot shop. It also can produce enough heat rise, that a light fan in the garage distributes the heat around nicely. I turn it up to a higher setting when I'm in the room for any length of time. The unit does make a fan noise, which is tolerable, but again, I make a lot more noise in my using my workshop equipment. Remember this is the 3000 watt unit and requires a 220-240 volt dedicated electrical current. I liked that wattage because a 2000 watt unit isn't able to produce enough heat and 4000 watt required a larger gage wiring connection. Overall, if it continues to perform at his level. I am satified. The price was good. Shipping was fast and I feel safer with being able to keep the coils cleaned from debris and moisture. ... show more

This infrared heater takes the cake.

I had really been through it trying to find a 240 volt/ under 20 amp heater for a portion of my house. I'd tried a few garage heaters without success, till I got the Dr. Infrared Heater. This heater is, so far, a keeper. It does put out good heat and is surprisingly quiet, about as loud as a good box fan. So I can keep it on even while watching TV. Also, It has a very reliable thermostat with a knob for setting your temp. It also sports two heat settings, although the fan speed remains the same. So far, this winter, the heater is keeping my heating bill down by approx. $100 over the gas heater I also can use. But, I'm wanting to reduce my carbon footprint and this heater fits the bill. ... show more
