  • Rocking function does not work well, overall a good multi-purpose chair.
Color: Black&gray
The media could not be loaded. Very long review ahead, here is the TL;DR: (so far) This chair is pretty good overall, and a very good value for the price which I purchased it at ($190 with a $10 off coupon). I plan to update my review in 6 months and 1 year after purchase. A concern with the limited rocking function prevents me from giving this chair a full 5 stars. I do not plan to use the included head or lumbar pillow. I would have preferred a seat without the included pillows and more adjustability in the main balance point. I have been researching a new office chair since before the COVID quarantine started, and have considered everything from expensive herman-miller, steelcase, ergohuman chairs to la-z-boy recliners for a mixed-use chair in my office where I work daily, record and play music, play videogames and watch TV. I even considered getting some chairs that are only available overseas imported at great cost. The chair I need has to fulfill mutiple roles and configurations, and this chair comes close, but is not perfect. Since I had such a hard time finding a chair that fit into my very specific requirements, I would assume that there are probably others who might appreciate a very thorough breakdown that I wish I could have found on the various chairs I was researching. I am 5'4" and 175 lbs. I have a compressed spinal column injury at L1 that I am living with, plus 40+ years of pretty hard abuse on my body racing cars, jumping off of stages, and generally living outside of the manufacturer's suggested use cases. I am also not very tall, so ergonomics is a continual challenge with 'off-the-shelf' seating and desk components. Initial quality: Overall I'm fairly impressed with the initial quality of this chair. Assembly was fairly easy and all tools and parts were included that were needed. Materials are consistent and while it does not feel like real leather, it's fine for this price level and purpose. There is a mix of PU "leather" and mesh fabric covering rubber foam pads and plastic/steel construction. There are no apparent material or assembly flaws, with the exception of a concern I have for the alignment of the main base with regards to the rocking function* (More on this later in the functionality recap) Size: Height: At my height I am always concerned about getting a chair with a short enough base that I don't have pressure on the backs of my legs; either behind the knee or the bottom of my thigh. At the very lowest setting of the gas cylinder, my thighs are straight out and feet are flat on the floor. I did end up not using the included lumbar pillow in lieu of a taller and more comfortable lumbar support pad: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071WK4Z3Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Without a lumbar pillow of some kind, I can sit further back in the seat, but this puts pressure on my legs behind my knees. This has a tendency to make me want to fold one leg up under the other and constantly shift my weight. Width: Fully assembled the chair is 27" wide, so I can easily roll the chair in and out of my office if needed. I am relatively broad shouldered (46" diameter chest) and without a lumbar pillow if I sit all the way back in the seat I definitely feel the shoulder and side bolster supports pressing in on me. This would be great if I was in a race car, and it mimics the feel of a real sports car seat. In the case of office work and gaming though, this support is unnecessary and counter productive, so I'm glad to move forward a few inches so that I can move more freely. I have a 30" waist, and do not feel the side bolsters encroach on my thighs or prevent me from sitting with a comfortable "knees apart" potision while sitting upright unlesss I really "manspread" my lege apart. Adjustability: The seat supports hight adjustment as is typical of an office chair and appears to provide about 5" of elevation change. The seat supports tension adjustment on the rocker spring, which is also lock-able in the "forward" position. The rocking function, however, is VERY dependent on the central weight balance point of how you sit in this chair, and that part is not adjustable.* (more on this later in the functionality portion of my review) The seat supports tilt adjustment on the seat back and is slightly spring loaded so that you can sit forward and release the lever to return the seatback to a more upright position. The seat appears to be adjustable in 2-3 degree increments, and I don't have a hard time finding a good angle for the various positions I use this chair in. The seat does not have any adjustable arms, but the are linked to the seat back and base and move with the seat back. I chose this configuration over stem-style arms because I want arm support when I'm reclining and reading. The arms have a slight curve to them which means you won't get full support along the length of the arms, but they are a good angle for the elbows. A narrower-shouldered person may feel that they are too far apart to be universally useful. For this price point I cannot see how they could have adjustable arms that are also supported at two points. The leg rest has minimal adjustment, it basically comes straight out on two rails and there is a little adjustability with how far you slide it out. Also because of the nature of it, the leg rest is not very wide, but I have not encountered any problems with my legs inadvertently falling off of the leg rest. Rollng/spinning: Castors for this chair are suprisingly smooth, but they are hard plastic. I will be putting on rollerblade style wheels which will raise the overall seat height about 1", but will be much less likely to damage my hardwood floors or collect cat hair and affect the functionality. Seat spins evenly and there are no surprises. Functionality: I work 9 hours a day in my home office, and then usually spend a few additional hours in my seat gaming, reading, listening to and playing music, and watching TV. Working: For the working position, the seatback can be set to be very upright 45 degree angle and the curve of the arms allows the chair to be very close to a desk at the correct ergonomic height. With the lumbar support I mentioned above, the chair has a good feeling of proper support and alignment for long working / upright sessions. Gaming, TV, and reading: The leg rest can be extended and there is some adjustment available in how far you slide it out. Even as short as I am, the leg rest is only going to support the backs of my calves with my feet just hanging over the edge. Personally, I prefer this, but it's worth pointing out that this is a leg rest, and not a foot rest. If I had really long legs, I could see there being a comfort issue with more leg hanging over the end of the leg rest. The seatback is tilt-able as well, and goes back very far. With the leg rest out and the seat fully reclined, you can easily nap in this chair. If you use a lumbar pillow (of any kind) fully reclining will change the chair geometry so that your back is curved forward. Playing music: I can play a full sized guitar on ths chair if I sit forward on the seat. Lack of folding arms prevents me from being able to sit back, but I simply don't play music that way. I do feel that the seat pan is comfortable for this seating sufficiently for hours of playing time, if I must sit. *Rocking: So, I looked a long time to find a reclining office chair that also supports rocking. Particularly I prefer to lock my chair in an upright position when I am actively working and creating, and rock a little when I am on conference calls or passively working. With the use of a lumbar pilow, the stem of the chair lines up directly to the base of my spine, which means that 99% of the weight is distributed forward of the rocking point. If I do not use a lumbar pillow, this changes to more of a 80% forward balance. As a result, rocking can only be facilitated with pushing up wth my feet, and is almost impossible to rock the chair when the seat back is in it's fully upright position regardless of how much you loosen the tension spring. Reclining the chair can change the weight balance considerably, but that again can be countered if you use the leg rest. Undoubtedly, a rocking function without a sliding base to adjust the balance point will always have some compromise in that perfect balance spot. I would prefer that the mounting plate be mounted further forward on the seat base, to facilitate more rear balance, but I can also understand this potentially contributing to some instability when the chair is fully reclined. I have contacted the seller / manufacturer to verify that the mounting holes for the base plate are in the correct position, but I don't anticipate that they will have any productive advice. If I do hear back from them I will update this review accordingly. Alternative mounting holes would be severely appreciated to accomodate a change in central balance point due to the usage of a lumbar pillow. As it is, I will probably end up making some interface plates on my own to adjust the central balance point back further. I also have experimented with adding weight to the rear of the chair, and only found success in adding a 50lb dumbell to the rear base of the seat to get the desired balance point. I also tried adding a lighter 20lb weight to the seatback of the chair, but this adversely affected the ability to re-raise the tilt angle, as well as made the chair more unstable while reclining. I added a video and some pictures illustrating the issue. The two measurement pictures show how far back on the seat pan the base plate is mounted vs a different chair which has normal rocking functions. Overall comfort: I have had this chair for 3 days at the time of this review, so long term comfort won't be covered yet. I can say the following: The rubber foam seat pad is nice and thick, fairly firm and does appear to soften slightly with body heat. I do not feel pressure points under my hip joints. The arm rests are in a pretty good position for general use. The seating position for working seems great, and the seating positions for various other functions are good to 'okay'. ... show more

  • Pretty good!
Color: Black&gray
I've looked and looked for gaming chairs for long sessions, and something that would fit me right. I'm not very large so this works out just fine! I had a 5 hour gaming session and it was comfortable the whole time. Super sturdy. Only one recommendation I'd say is the instructions could use an update and better pictures showing how to put it together. 10/10 would recommend! ... show more

  • Not great, but decent.
Color: Black&blue
Pros: 1) Looks great!! You can see for yourself the first three pictures I uploaded. It actually looks better than I expected. Not real leather, it actually looks nice. I bought this color because it was cheaper than the all-black I wanted to buy. But, I think this was a better choice. I love the blue-on-black combination. 2) Good buy for the price. 3) Lumbar support is not the best, but the massaging (vibrating) lumbar pillow is a very nice add-on. 4) Comfortable arm rests. 5) The reclining angle is amazing. I included a photo. Also, the rocking is very smooth as well, which adds to the comfort of this chair. Cons: 1) The rear part of the seat is a bit hard. So, if you're sitting for hours on this chair, your back and butt will suffer a little. You might want to consider buying a cushion, OR get up and stretch out like we're supposed to. I included an annotated image pointing out this small issue. 2) The straps for the pillows cannot be adjusted. Fortunately, the straps for the lumbar pillow are not too long, so it stays tight in position and fiend slide down easily. However, the neck/head pillow straps are too long (in my opinion) and it slides down too easily. To remedy this issue, for now, I'm using a clip to tighten up the strap just a bit to keep the pillow "in place." It works have been nice if the straps were adjustable. One issue I had (still have at the time of this teview) was that one of the arm rest screws came worn around the threads. I contacted the vendor on a Saturday and by Monday (today) they had replied and already provided me with a tracking number for the replacement screw I requested. Dealing with responsive vendors is always a huge plus. Also, I don't care about the leg rest. That's why I did not list it as a pro or con. Overall, I think it's a very good buy: especially in this price range. That said, if you intend to use it as a work chair and you have lower back issues, consider buying a good seat cushion, or buy a conventional office chair. Gaming chairs aren't really designed for extended usage (i.e 8+ hours a day for days at a time). I chose this chair to replace my office chair and my criteria was basically looks and comfort. And the reviews convinced me that it was comfortable enough, but even with that mindset, I had to buy a seat cushion (that should arrive tomorrow) ... show more
