  • Very well designed and great fit and finish
Impressive! Very good quality and detailed instructions. Some of the parts are tiny and require a little patience when assembling. Need a pair of tweezers for some of the screws. Beautiful little desk display. Fit and finish are all five stars.

  • Beautiful technical model
Excellent model, great fit, finish, packaging, manual, runs beautifully ... this has it all. It can run on a built-in battery or a usb adapter. Adequate tools are included. All parts were present.

  • Very nice pieces. Great presentation.
The DM122 Mini Metal Turbofan Engine Model Kit is seriously cool on the desk, and it has that "wow, this is real metal" vibe the moment you pick it up. The electric motor noise, however, takes away from the full "cool" factor. It has an electric motor with throttle control lever, and a semi-transparent magnetic cover so you can watch the internals move while it runs. PROS: - Metallic pieces are nice and coated well. It has good weight to it and doesn't feel cheap at all. - Solid build quality overall. Smooth finish, no annoying sharp edges or burrs. - The transparent cover is a great design choice. It makes the moving parts the whole show. - Very cool STEM desk decor once assembled, and the kit is detailed and realistic. CONS: - The motor is louder than expected. Instead of a satisfying "precision" sound, it has more of an electric grind like a cheap toy robot that slowly walks across your childhood floor. If the motor were silent, this would be an easy 5 stars. Overall, awesome concept, great materials, and a fun display build, but the noise keeps it from being perfect. *4 stars! ... show more

  • Excellent model! Perfect for anyone interested in aerospace.
I had the pleasure of testing out and building this turbofan engine model. Summarize my experience, I was quite impressed with the whole process! This model is almost entirely metal. Once constructed, it feels extremely high-quality and has quite a heavy weight to it. It won't easily slide off your desk, something I was a little worried about. I did not find any manufacturing defects on any of the pieces while building it. The build was very straightforward- clear, concise instructions printed in a very high-quality book. I would say my build time with a few breaks here and there was around two hours. The model does feature a rechargeable lithium battery, which allows you to turn on the engine for display purposes. It's pretty quiet during operation, but I wouldn't let it run all day. The clear plastic on the front side of the model detach is with magnets, so you can get a good look at all the fan blades inside. This would make an excellent teaching tool! I don't think that this engine is modeled after any specific real life engine. It would be cool if it was marketed as a real engine, but I think it's just a generic turbo fan. Definitely check this one out, it's a little pricey, but I sure had a lot of fun putting it together! ... show more

  • Very good quality and super fun to build
My kid had a blast putting this thing together. The build quality is way better than I expected, all the major parts are solid metal, everything feels heavy and premium in your hands, and the machining is super precise. NOthing about it feels cheap. No missing parts. All the tiny screws, washers and little accessories come in a neatly labeled plastic box, so finding the right piece is painless. The manual matches the labels perfectly, which saves you from digging around or guessing. Assembly took the kid about two hours. It definitely requires some patience, but it's the good kind. Watching the engine slowly come together piece by piece is honestly pretty rewarding, very fun for kids. One tip from our experience: don't force anything. If a screw or washer doesn't seem to fit, you probably grabbed the wrong one. Back up, double-check the labels, and try again. Overall, it's a super fun build and looks awesome once it's done. ... show more

  • fun project but need patience and steady hands
I spent few evenings building this mini turbofan engine model and honestly it was more challenging than I expect, but in good way. There are many small metal parts, screws and nuts everywhere, so you really need focus and not rush, otherwise you drop things like I did on first night. The metal quality feel solid and heavy, not cheap toy feeling at all. Surface finish look nice with that anodized color and little details, it really look like real jet engine just smaller. Assembly instructions are paper and okay to follow, but sometimes I stare at picture little confused, still manageable. When finished and I turn it on, seeing inside parts move through transparent cover was very satisfying, especially the fan and turbine spinning smooth. The magnetic casing is clever, easy to remove and show inside to my son, he was very impressed. It look great on my desk now, kind of nerdy but cool decoration. Not for small kids alone, but as STEM project with patience it very rewarding. manual was easy to read and follow. although it was so many steps. overall I say it worth the money. ... show more
